They were doing well for most of the third but they weren't executing all that great in the final 5.

I might need to skip Saturday. If this is how the refs treat the Minnesota Wild, I can't wait to see the treatment the league's golden children get on Saturday.

Also 1.2 to 0.8 in expected goals, 0 to 1 in actual goals 5v5. 5-0 high danger chances in the 3rd. Frustrating indeed.

This was one of the weirdest, most frustrating but also fun games in a while. I don't remember the last time there were 56 minor penalties callled.

Helps when they keep tacking on extra ones for Frederic... anyone get a video to see when he "high sticked" the guy?

How many games do we think they suspend Frederic for what shouldn’t have even been a penalty? I’ll guess 3.

The officiating in that game was the most one sided ive ever seen in a regular season NHL game. An absolute atrocity.

Are we the baddies?

i cannot believe the comments I’m seeing from fans around the rest of the league about that hit. I try very hard to not be too biased but I saw Frederic glide into that hit and catch him in the side, not the back.I can see the argument that KK was vulnerable, but I didn’t think Frederic threw anything extra into that. I’ve made the mistake of looking at comments online and Trent Frederic (somehow the whole league knows our 4th liner) is the dirtiest player since Ogie Oglethorpe and all Boston players are cheap shots and the refs cheated for Boston and ESPN loves Boston, and the league favors Boston, etc.

i realize I’m probably asking the wrong crowd, but I am crazy?

Unfortunately the over the top media crap that Marchand got and still gets is probably a big factor in that attitude. Don’t get me wrong he’s done some less than stellar things but man has he been singled out and then by extension his teammates get caught up in it.

Edit. Different eras of course but Messier last night compared Marchand to Esa Tilkkanen. And Tikkanen barely got any grief for his antics.

FWIW, I thought it was a penalty. Not sure I'd agree with suplemental discipline but Kaprizov was in a bad spot and I thought Frederic could've held up but went ahead with the hit and caught him more in the back than in the side.

The tears from Minnesota and Evason are way over the top. Spare me. It was a bad hit at best but in no way was it malicous or intent to injure.

I didn't get to watch the game, but I just watched the hit. On first look, I thought it was borderline, but that the internet was overreacting. I definitely didn't think Frederic went into him full force, and could have done a lot more damage than he did if he had gone in full force. KK was already going down at a weird angle, which I don't think helped the situation.

Then I found a slower replay, and I have to say that, while I still don't think it is on the level of a Matt Cooke/Tom Wilson type of predatory hit, Frederic definitely changes direction to contact a player in an already compromised situation, while ignoring the puck that has squirted past him. It was definitely a dangerous hit, and also unnecessary as KK had already been taken out of the play by the initial hit from Grz, and I think Frederic probably deserves a couple games off for it.

I initially wanted to rip Dean Evanson for blowing it out of proportion when he said:

”Really frustrated with how Kirill got hurt,” Evason told The Athletic. “I mean, it’s a predatorial hit, one that the league … I mean, we don’t want that, right? The puck is sitting right there. You know what he’s doing. He’s going to hurt our best player. There’s no question that there is no intention … That is not a hockey play. The puck’s sitting right there. All he has to do is take the puck and go. And in a vulnerable position, you hit a player from behind.”
But after my second viewing, I actually think he's probably correct, except the hit wasn't *quite* from behind. It's not a hit I would have wanted a Bruin to take (let's be honest, we would be FURIOUS if it had been Bergy instead of a Wild player).

I think you’re off here- Kaprizov doesn’t start going down until Frederic is on top of him as Gryz took his legs out at the last second.

i’m okay with that being a penalty, but the calls of it being a “predatory hit” are absurd IMO…Frederic didn’t run him over, target the head, or rub him out into the wall. If you want to call boarding I can see that, he went for a hit rather than the puck. But I don’t even think he hit him that hard, it was just awkward.

Edit- if Bergy took that hit I hope I’d be rational about it- this wasn’t fucking Randy Jones here let alone Wilson or Cooke or whoever.

I am 100% in agreement with you here. I didn't even think it was a penalty, and it was only because he awkwardly went into the boards sideways that he hurt his shoulder.

The big thing I see is Frederic doesn't extend at all, tucks the shoulder and glides into the hit. I think if Kaprizov doesn't start falling as Frederic lines him up it's a run of the mill boarding penalty. Not a good hit and will probably get a game, which I'm probably fine with, but imagine Evason is playing it up a bit as well given his best player just got hurt.

Wasn't that Cohn? I though Mess said Esa was lazy and the team didn't give him opportunities? (Not enough room on the PP)

This is where I'm at. One game. I didn't like the hit in real time, but when I saw the replay it was clear that TF had KK lined up well before KK started going down. Evason's only destroying his own credibility for future situations where mal intent is much more clearly evident. Until skates come with ABS, the Wild coach should quit crying wolf.

Well I’m glad you guys don’t think I’m crazy.

But again- are we the baddies?

Edit: I guess I’m not actually asking the question. I broke my cardinal rule of not reading comments and got worked up. My bad.

But you are right... the Boston Bruins still have the plodding non-finesse team of Lucic days and before... even though they have been transitioned to a more finesse team for a while now. So teams are allowed to come in scrums and punch guys twice in the face... and the Bruins player is just supposed to take it even though it's wide out in the open and the ref is looking right at them... and if the Bruins player does do anything? at best it's matching minors, but more often than not it's off to the penalty box alone.

Finally watched the replay. Basic question: Is Frederic going in for the hit or for the puck? Pretty clear to me that he is over focused on the hit and ignores the fact that the puck is right there. Never makes a play on the puck. So, if you’re a Wild or non-Bruins fan, you’re going to see that as malicious. I think there’s a middle ground, probably a penalty.
