What a sweet win, without 3.5 of their key players. Had to get key contributions from almost everyone else.

We have, by far, the most talented team
I don't agree. They are very talented but that alone doesn't win games. Frankly some of the criticisms of Mazzulla come from folks who don't appear to actually understand how the NBA works. Not all but a fair bit.

Complaints for complaining's sake.

If anything, I feel like this roster could make a coach's life harder. There are a lot of players that could be complaining they're not getting starter minutes, but everyone seems bought in.

Edit - maybe not harder, because everyone wants more talent. But managing egos is real.

Daryl Morey must have watched that and thought “yup, need to make a move”

Harris was awful in particular

I can’t remember who I was debating this season in a “top ten players” discussion who was arguing embiid is in shape….I hope they watched tonight

I was listening to the radio last week.. not sure if it was in NYC or Boston about how White and Brogdon may want out after this year because they want larger roles.. Joe is dealing with a team that probably has about seven to eight legit starters.

I think it’s 6 or 8 depending on how you feel about White and Grant

Not sure I've seen every player but one (Jaylen) be a positive plus/minus in a game you only win by 7. Really indicative of the teamwide win. Really wanted Luke to get that last 2 points and get 7 players in double figures. And no one scored 20! Just a very odd boxscore.

I don't think that group includes Mazzulla's critics.

This team continues to have the best record in the league so if Mazzulla is making all these mistakes, he is somehow getting away with it.
Haven't you heard? He doesn't call enough timeouts, and doesn't scream at the players and refs throughout the game. But mostly not enough timeouts.

Yeah.. that's basically what I was thinking. I think White is almost certainly a legit starter, but both him and Grant are probably better off the bench on a legit team.

Tobias Harris fits right in with that team of frauds. All the physical tools to be so much better than he is, and he vanishes when they need him most. Fraud.

He plays Tatum too much and the main reason we lost last year was that Tatum was toasted by the end of the season. I’m sure you think Barry Switzer was a bomb ass coach because he won with a loaded roster too.

Mazz or someone deserves credit for what they threw at Embiid. He never looked comfortable after the first quarter when he came out hot.
Yup.i thought Embiid was going to have a 40 pt nite and nothing in that 1st qtr changed my mind. But GW and switches made him work his ass off for what he got. CJM did a real nice using his depth on what looked like was going to be a challenging night.

Where is your evidence that Tatum plays "too much"? He is not leading the league in MPG and he is in a reasonable grouping. He is also a 24 year old guy who doesn't need to be treated like Bird at the end.

Also, the Cs had another head coach last season. Maybe we can wait until the thing you are concerned about actually happens before leveling criticisms. Or not. Its a free country.

Tatum and co had to play big minutes through the end of the season last year due to the rough start. If they had the opportunity to lock up a top seed earlier and rest more, maybe that doesn't happen.

I'm no basketball player, but I do run long distance. Logging a lot of miles to build ATP production before tapering for a race is a pretty tried-and-true strategy. Joe's usage seems to track. Let the young guys work hard, build stamina, and hopefully a cushion in the rankings before easing up on minutes before the playoffs.

All this hand-wringing about an extra minute or two a game feels premature, and without much evidence it's a real issue to me.

Of all the possible things to complain about, leaning on your MVP candidate who's healthy and in his prime would be pretty low on my list. My main gripe with this team during the occasional mini-slumps has been the inconsistent level of defensive intensity and overall effort, but it's a long season and this team has faced some injuries.

Will be in Philly on the 25th with the wife and first-born for the rematch. It'll be our first Celtics road game. Glad they put this one in the bank.

Jeez, we just had the best bench/team win of the season tonight.

CJM has done a nice job and upped his use of TOs from earlier this season

He'll lose the Interim tag once they clear up the IME situation.

It's nice to have Blake on this team for emergency situations.. and nights where he's the only one to show up to start the game.. Team is just full of guys that know their roles and seeming to want to fit and make into a great team.

Nobody is scolding anyone. Reasonable adults are conversing. We aren't in agreement but nobody needs to try to jump on a dogpile.

Back to the game, for all of their soul crushing, concern inducing losses this season, this team has met a lot of challenges. If yesterday I told you that Boston wins this game with Horford and Brown out while Tatum only got 12 points would you have believed it? This is a championship caliber club. Lets see what the team gets on the market.

Embiid having Grant on him and avoiding burying him under the basket and instead settling for midrange jumpers is all you need to know about him. When the jumpers fall (as they did in his duel against Jokic) but when they don't he is a clunky offensive player that really struggles to make plays out of double teams.

That's actually not correct. Over the last 31 days of last season before the MIL series, JT played something like 10 games and 330-odd minutes. (I posted the numbers in another theard.) He did not play a ton down the stretch since the Cs were so dominant.

WRT to Brogdan, I find that difficult to believe as Brogdan chose to come to BOS knowing he'd be coming off the bench.

As for the game, I don't I've ever seen Maxey miss so many shots.

I was at the game tonight.

Yes, that was a great game. Celtics were missing three starters (Smart, Horford, and Robert Williams), and Jaylen Brown was hit in the face near halftime and didn’t play the second half. Also, Tatum and Brown totaled 16 points between them on 7-24 shooting (1-9 on 3’s), so the rest of the team scored 90 points, making 33 of 52 shots (63.5%!), including 18 of 26 3-pointers (69.2%!!). I think I had the most fun watching players like Sam Hauser and Derrick White make 3 after 3 whenever the Sixers got close.
