Annnnnd QPR continues to tumble down the table.
What’s going on? Aside from your no-show against Wycombe, you’ve been playing some tough teams (Norwich today it looks like- wheeeeeee), is it just a run of games against better opposition or is their something deeper at play here?

I dont get to see them as often as I would like, but generally speaking the guys arent showing up. I am not on the fire Warburton bandwagon, but it may get there.

I never expected this team to be rise-ready, but I thought they were a top 10 or so club, and thought they may be positioned for a push to go up in 2021 one more year removed from their worst of their financial crap. Now, they are getting close to the relegation battle. Norwich will be ugly, but they really would do well to get 3 from Luton and then another 3 from Wycombe is an absolute must.

One of the worst side effects is that they are limping into the West London Derby, which I am terribly pessimistic about now

I avoided this thread for a while because QPR was depressing me. But damn, they are playing really really well now, winning 6 of 7 and some against some really strong competition.

Yesterday, a 2-1 win over a very talented Bournemouth club was huge.

The Charlie Austin loan was so important. He is an exceptional scorer but he also makes everyone else better around him. The club needs to do whatever it takes to keep him around long term IMO.

As it stands, they've risen from 20th to 13th, and did so during the midst of a challenging stretch. They now enter a stretch of 5-6 games against middle- or lower-tier clubs. If they can continue this run, top 10 is in their sights.

Playoffs is clearly a bridge too far at this point. They would probably need to win another 5 of 6 to start getting into that discussion. Regardless though, exciting time to be a QPR fan.

Just checked out the table and was amazed to see that Barnsley is in the playoff spots. I knew they were doing better this year, but they have been flirting with relegation for a few years now. Quite a turnaround.
The battle for second place looks like it will go down to the wire.

I hope they retain Austin next year. QPR will likely be in 9th after the day ends, and may be able to get as high as 8th with a strong finish. But Austin plus Dykes et al makes a really nice combination of talent that I believe would get them into the promotion discussion next year.

But Charlie needs to be be back.

Regardless though, short term, really happy to see the team's performance this year after a slow start.

Watford nabs the second automatic spot.

Since Xisco took over in late December they have won 16 lost 4 and drawn 3.

On that note the playoff teams are set, but they're too close to see who plays who. As we stand with two games to go-

3. Brentford 43 games 78 pts +32 (Rovrum, Watford, @Bristol City)
4. Bournemouth 44 games 77 pts +30 (@Wycombe, Stoke)
5. Swansea 44 games 77 pts +18 (Derby, @Watford)
6. Barnsley 44 games 77 pts +10 (@PNE, Norwich)

And I don't want to talk about the bottom of the league but we do know that 3 of Wycombe, Wednesday, Rotherham, Derby, Huddersfield are going down, with Wycombe all but assured of going down and Huddersfield in the best position to stay up.

Having watched this league all season, those are really bad football teams, and their form is atrocious, and none of them seem able to help themselves, as everyone falters around them. It's ugly.

The group above them (Coventry, Bristol City, Forest, Birmingham) is really, really poor too...

Hoping the Hoops pull off a top 10...was curious if they could manage a point vs Norwich, but coming off 2 losses, the class of the league showed up again

Regardless, a successful recovery after a bad start. I'll keep beating the drum but we need to retain Austin next year. He really opened things up for our other younger scorers. I think QPR can be a playoff team next year if they retain him.

So today was filled with putrid results- Wednesday toothless and placid in a drab nil-nil v. a Forest team whose fans wanted them to lose to help relegate Derby and the players looked to match that effort. Rotherham manged a late goal to snag a draw v. a Blackburn team that has been on vacation for a month, but didn't look worth it. And Derby allowed a team that was half Swansea reserves to come from behind and beat them 2-1. Here's where we stand today (look at the form):

21Derby 45 11 10 24 33 55 -22 43 LLLLLL
22Rotherham 44 11 7 26 43 59 -16 40 LLLLLD
23Sheffield Wednesday 45 12 10 23 37 58 -21 40 LLDWLD
24Wycombe 45 10 10 25 36 69 -33 40 WLDWLW

Wycombe is out, Toy Town has a game tuesday against Luton, who has nothing to play for, and a win will all but seal the deal for Wednesday barring a GD miracle. Assuming (a dangerous thing in the league) Rotherham continues their form tuesday, that sets up a final day with Rotherham traveling to Cardiff and Wednesday traveling to Derby.

I think 8 of the bottom 9 teams (spare Coventry) desrve to go down. Just awful football teams. It's been a fucking disgrace to watch Wednesday this season, and the clubs around them are no better.

Sucks. Sorry man. I know who I’m pulling for in League One next year.
Cheers.

Maybe I'll try to put together a longer post at some point, although I doubt it comes out, but I'm not that bothered by the demotion as is- I can still watch all of the games, I'll get to see a new squad instead of the same garbage I've been watching for the last 3 years, we should actually be able to win some games, etc. Being able to see the team play week in and week out is all I've ever asked for.

But given our ownership situation, I think there's chance (10%? 20%? More?) this quite literally kills the club. Bolton, Bury, Wigan, etc. It's fucking grim up north....

Sorry DH. You are a passionate fan and sucks to see your guys go down

on a personal level I’m thrilled with a 9th place finish after the start we had. Hoping QPR RE-signs Austin.I think this team can compete for promotion next year if they do.

See I wish relegation on everyone, because I’m bitter.

but I appreciate the thoughts guys. If the club doesn’t go under or get mired in League One for 10 years, this will be a good reset, purge some of the sickness out of the club. But I don’t know which result will occur, and I’m not optimistic

California. Duh.
I think there was actually about 20 seconds between Cardiff's equalizer against Rotherham and Derby's equalizing penalty when Wednesday were technically safe, but of course they were facing a penalty during that time.

The EFL has won their appeal of the FFP ruling with Derby County and now an independent panel will decide the punishment, raising the posibility that Derby will be relegated and Wycombe would stay up if the punishment is a points dedcution applied to this season)

Wycombe took 10 points from their final 5 games, as a team with one of the lowest budgets ever in the Championship. Ainsworth does a great job with them, it would be a great story if they could somehow stay up (on the backs of two points deducations to rivals, but nonetheless)

So excited to hear that QPR looks likely to sign Austin to a permanent deal. I think they have the pieces to make a push for promotion next season.

The 1st half of the 2nd leg of the play off between Brentford and Bournemouth has been crazy. Bournemouth were 1-0 up from the first leg and then scored after 9 minutes from a Brentford corner. This was followed by a Brentford penalty, a Bournemouth red card (for a great rugby tackle) and lots of argy-bargy.
