Kevin Millar is in his element on MLB Network.

Looking forward to today’s ceremonies. The 2004 sox won the series during perhaps the most challenging personal and professional time in my life and I will always reference this time and this team when I face hardships in my life. I have tissues ready for Timmy’s part. My mom loved him and she passed in 2020.

Go Sox! Let’s play like it’s game four against the Yankees in 2004!!!

I feel ya, in a different way. 2004 was one of the best years of my life overall just in terms of like... pure happiness and what not. Not all of it, of course, but I have so many good memories of that year. Just seeing some clips of the 2004 playoffs earlier got me hard.

This is making me insanely happy, but it's also hitting me how long ago this was. I was 17 in 04 and I still remember it like yesterday. I've got two kids now and nobody who played in 2004 still plays and they haven't for some time. I can't believe how quickly the time goes by. Sometimes you see posts on some nostalgia themed social media accounts online that say "We were living in the golden age and never knew it at the time," but I feel like we really did know that we were living in the golden age in 2004. Nothing will ever top it.

They did a great job with that one - both the 2004 celebration and weaving in LL and Wakefields.

I was fighting off the dust during the video but when they announced his kids to throw out the first pitch (which someone here called if I remember) I couldn't hold back. Such a great tribute and show of love from the team.

It’s the otherwise. And it’s warranted.
Do you have any proof of the bolded? Or are you just speaking out of your ass?

Good god everything does not need to be looked at from the most cynical angle.. Why even show up and take part in any aspect of this event in the first place, it was a supposed "F you" to ownership? Did all the other players (Like PEDRO) not show up as an F you to ownership? If Pedro really wanted to be a part of this he could have convinced TBS to let him attend given how personal the event would mean to him...

I was disappointed in the event. They ran a 10 minute video and didn't introduce any individual members of the team. I feel like they could have trimmed a little off that and given a little more attention to the guys who showed up.

What a gorgeous day! Bummed at the outcome, of course, but Opening Day is always special!

As to the pregame ceremony, the video was terrific, recalling 2004…got a bit emotional, for sure, particularly with the weaving in of Wake and LL. I agree that not introducing individual players seemed a bit odd, but my take was this was more of a tribute to Wake, coupled with a band-of-brothers type support for his kids. And ya know…given the circumstances, that’s not a bad idea.

The flyover was great, btw…

I think it would have been difficult to introduce individual members since they already had the normal opening day intros, and to a lesser extent, because of the notable guys not there.

I think the most important thing was acknowledging the loss of Wakefield; that surely complicated things and made a more traditional celebration kind of impossible.

I just got back to VT from today’s home opener. I happened to be entering gate E at top of Landsdowne when I saw duck boats coming around the corner with motorcycle police escorts/sirens blaring. Sure enough, the 2004 guys were on them and being escorted into the stadium. I found myself literally standing right next to Theo and Sam Kennedy as they greeted each player as they got off the boats and went into the stadium. I have a couple up close great videos of it, but not sure how to post them on here, as I’m tech challenged. It was pretty freakin cool. The game that followed however, was super sloppy to watch, even though Corbin Burnes is a very good pitcher.

Looking back after having been at the game yesterday, The Wakefield/Luchino memorial and the celebration of 2004 may have worked together as there is a connection between the two, but shoe horning everything into the opening day pomp that already exists was probably too much and would have been better served as two separate ceremonies. The video montages played at the park were great, I can't wait to rewatch it at home.

Johnny Damon was “protected” by some of his handlers leaving the Sam Roof Deck area during the 7th inning. Definitely intoxicated, but at least I got a fist bump.

My wife is convinced that only 'we' call Kevin Millar 'Chicken Bucket.'

I told her, 'no way!' But then doing a little SoSH search here has me worried. Can it possibly be the case that this is not standard nomenclature?

The mind reels.
I’m willing to start.

I love flyovers to a ridiculous degree, I’m literally 5 years old again.

I love when Jeter bunts the runner over to 3rd in game 5, with 1 out and ARod coming up, Yankees up 4-2, and claps, knowing that that one extra run is probably the nail in the coffin.

And then ARod doesn't get the run home.

Edit: because Mike Timlin strikes him out. God I love Mike Timlin.
My favorite part of the Arod slap play was Jeter giving the fist pump as he crossed home plate with the tying (or next to tying) run ... then later having to go back on base.

Yeah I watched it after the fact and thought it was pretty terrible. Wake stuff aside. The players may as well not have been there.
