Yeah, not a bad round and nice recovery from that triple on 2.  How did you manage 6 penalty strokes on 2 holes?  That's impressive.

Should only be 4 penalty strokes on those 2 holes, maybe I mis-typed that. I hit O.B. on both of those holes - was killing my driver most of the day, but got a little loose on those two holes and pushed the ball right and was O.B. by about 5 feet combined on both holes.

I also was getting tired/hungry/cold on the last 3 holes and didn't finish well. On 18 (par 5) I hit a poor drive, had a terrible lie in the rough, but managed to hit a beautiful 4-iron to about 110 yards and then put a wedge into about 6-8 feet, but then 3-putted from there. The difference between the front and the back was pretty drastic - winter rust started to show on the back nine.

I just joined this OOB golf group.  Playing Sunday for the first time.  I played 9 the other day but we each hit 2 or 3 balls per hole.

I don't have my putter back yet from getting it refinished, so I'll be using one of the 38 my father owns.

Sweet.  I'm playing tomorrow afternoon at the Omni-Interlocken for my first round since moving to Denver.  Should be interesting adapting to the altitude with my own clubs.  I've played a few rounds with my backup set and my brother's clubs but not mine.  Looking forward to some 350 yard drives and 170 yard 9-irons.

Well, that was easy.  Cruised to a nice little 72.  Only had trouble once on a 265 yard carry to the hole par 4.  Double crossed a 3-wood deep into the tall grass for a lost ball off the tee.  Rehit to 12 feet from the pin and made the putt for the rare 3-off-the-tee par on a par 4.  I've now done this enough times that I think it's a thing.  If I play a course that I've never seen before with someone who's played it many times I'll usually play great.  I know for some guys knowing exactly where to hit the ball means a lot but to me if someone says "hit it down the left side with a cut" and I don't know that there's trouble one way or the other I play much better.

Don't have time to go through this whole thread, but if someone can post a tutorial about this app, I'll download it and join as well. And as anyone here who knows me will attest, by "tutorial," I actually mean "After I turn on the phone, what do I do next and then next and then next until completion?"  Otherwise, I'll never figure it out.

Andover opened yesterday for the front nine.  New back nine opens today (bunkers are not in play for the time being, as they were just redone and they added a bunch).  I took a cart out on the course yesterday and checked out the changes and it looks great.  I'm fired up to get going.  First tee time is tomorrow at noon.

They are voting on major changes to my course as well.  They biggest change would see the course go from a 72 to a 71, while extending a 340 yard par 4 to a 450 yard par 4, and shortening a 520 yard par 5 to a 430 yard par 4.  They also want to extend one tee 50 yards or so and redo a few of the bunkers.

To be honest I'm not sure how I feel about it.  I like being able to play four par 5's in a round, but the changes they are proposing would make the course one of the toughest tracks in the state, which I like.

We're a par 72 with only 3 par 3's and 3 par 5's.  Two of the par 3's play between 190-215 depending on the tee locations (other is 135-165 depending on pin location), so they add some difficulty on the par 3's, but make up for it with two reachable par 5's (around 500 yards) and one really long one at about 575.  The track itself is relatively short, playing about 6,800 from the tips, but the course defends itself with the greens.  If they cut them down, and put pins in some tough spots, it can be unbearably hard to score, which they do pretty regularly.  That said, they added some bunkers in some landing areas in and around fairways, and that's going to be very interesting to see how it plays out.

Unlike most private courses, ours is owned by an individual, not the membership, so we don't get to vote on anything, but we also don't get assessed for anything either.  Given the amount that has been spent in recent years, this is definitely working out in our favor.

Anyone have any experience with GolfTEC?

Hit the range yesterday and it went surprisingly well. Still getting too much back spin, but other than that it was fine.

I did their free first evaluation at a Golfsmith.  It was pretty good but I found having the harness on a bit distracting and that I couldn't take a real swing without thinking about the stuff attached to me.  Seeing your body position was cool but it didn't seem very different than just regular video with the line overlay or the new fancy 3d, every angle video.  The evaluation software was cool in that it shows you where your swing is breaking down but I don't really believe in a one swing fits all theory so for me it was off-putting   Also, the ball and club tracking are IR not radar so a lot of the stats are actually software estimates.  For my money, I still trust a Trackman or other radar based systems more than any other system.  Used with a teacher and combined with video you get the truest sense of your swing and can see the results of adjustments in many different stats.  Like I said, I've only done it once so maybe you get used to the harness and maybe their progressive learning system is awesome.  I can't speak to those.

Right. I agree with those opinions. It's just that GolfTEC is right next to my gym. Think I should settle or find a better place?

For me being able to see my stats and swings is really helpful. If there's nothing else close by that has a trackman or the like, and you like to see your swing and stats then I'd say do it. Plus, I'll be really curious about your experience an want to hear how it goes.

In this months Digest there's the top 100 club fitters and there are three that make some sense. GolfTEC isn't listed.

Ace of Clubs - 35 mins away (but only 15 from my gym and on my way to Boston)

Kustom Club Fitting Center - 1 hour

And there's also Golf & Ski Warehouse listed that's an hour and a half away, but there's another G&SW thats 30 mins away but that one isn't listed.

So I have some options, but I'm probably going to check out Ace of Clubs. Unless someone says it's shit.

PS.  Yes.  It leads to a 91.  First round of the year so it was expected to be rusty, but I obviously couldn't get off the tee.  My day was basically hit tee ball into woods, punch out, come on in 3, have a 20 footer for par, miss.

Also, this was my lie on 9 that lead to a double:

Not sure if you guys remember me asking about sending a Cameron away to get it redone...well I did it through putterlounge.com.  On the face, I basically just went from a milled platinum finish to a milled black finish with the crown and laguna painted with white.  But here is the before and after:

My cell phone camera doesn't do it justice, but they did a fantastic job.  The lettering is all in a royal blue that looks very sharp.

Jercra I think I can't update scores because my course info isn't up to date...but I can't edit course data unless I pony up for a membership.  Can you do it?  I'm not sure if this is the only info you need:

http://www.alpinecountryclubri.com/Golf/Course-Tour.aspx
So, the issue appears not to be that your course data isn't there.  It's that you managed to play a round 5 years in the future, which is impressive.  Go fix the date of the round from 1/1/18 to the day you actually played it and it should show up in the leaderboard.  As a nice side benefit, I updated your course and added all of the women's data as well as course designer and year built.  Of course, next time I'm back in New England you'll have to take me out to see it myself so I know what I was updating.

First full round of the year coming up Saturday at Highfields in Grafton, really looking forward to it. I've made changes to my swing due to taking lessons that have largely helped, but am still trying to get comfortable with it. I am definitely thinking too much and once I finally let my mind go, the results improve. I also got the worst case of the shanks of my life the other day at the range, literally could not make any sort of contract for about 25 swings. Finally worked my way through it though and got back to square one by the end.

Anyways, here's a swing from last year (yes I know it's side view and driver but work with me) versus this year (after I had corrected the shanks):

TFP, that's a whole lot better swing than I've ever had, or ever will. I'm a mess, but it is what it is.  I decided to get new irons this year, so they've been ordered.  When they come in, I'll let you guys know what they are and if I like them.  My knowledge of clubs and buying them consists of telling my pro "I need new irons, order something good."  He won't do it for me on the woods though, says I need to go the range (haven't been there in at least five years) with him, and do the whole video, swing machine thingy, so he can fit me correctly.  This is going to be a year of pain and misery for my golf game, I fear.  Thank God I have a short game, because I'm going to need it.

I've used Ace of Clubs before.  He used to do a bunch of re-shafting and fittings for members at the club I work at...probably still does.  Fit me for KBS shafts a few years ago.

Sent my Titleist Circa 62 #5 to Putter Lounge today.  Bought it on EBay from a guy who looked like he tried to re-finish it himself....bad idea.  I'll post pics if I remember 4-6 weeks from now  .

Thanks, but I've broken 90 twice in my life and live in the high 90s-low 100s as a rule. Want to teach me your consistency and your short game?

It's not sideways when you play it.  No clue why it did that.  There are a few hilarious things in this video.  One I'm in jeans and a t shirt in the middle of the worst kept driving range.... ever.  The best part is that I'm in Arkansas and a Wal-Mart truck passes right before I swing.  Awesome timing.

Anyway, I feel good about this for it being April.  I have a hitch in my left leg I've been fighting for years.  Basically when I started playing golf I was awful with my weight transfer.  So I spent hours and hours picking up my left leg and putting it back down while swinging to make sure I got on my back leg.  It usually only happens with my driver and it usually happens about a third of the time.  I can get a little stuck on my right leg sometimes with the longer clubs as well, but like I said, I'm aware and spend 95% of my time working on my lower body.

Any advice would be awesome.  Thanks.

Edit: here's a down the line view with a 52. I'm not nearly aggressive with shorter clubs.

I have to second (or 3rd or 4th) the love for Caledonia.  The 18th hole is pretty special too.  Second shot all carry over the water right back to the clubhouse.  Also love sitting in those rocking chairs overlooking the 18th green with a drink in hand.
Lou, needless to say I'm in, you going to game next Sat?

Played two tournament rounds this weekend - day 1 was in 30 MPH winds and it was between 48-52 degrees all day. If I didn't go triple/bogey on the last two holes I would have come in 3rd. I had 3 birdies and two lip-outs, but also had a triple and three doubles, weird day. Day 2 was beautiful and I played reasonably well, but others played a lot better. They had just plugged the greens, I wasted about 4-5 strokes on the greens because of weird bounces.

Still shaking the winter rust off:
Day 1 - 85
Day 2 - 79

Four birdies and an eagle in my first two tournament rounds this year; I'll take it.

What do you mean by swing evaluating apps?  I use V1 golf on Android and it's awesome but it's a video analysis app.  I'll grant that it's been more useful for making fun of my friends shitty swings than for evaluating my own swing but I'm also the guy who uses information to screw up what's working for me.

So this was a disaster. I shot a 66 on the front and stopped keeping score on the back. It was literally the worst round of golf I played in 3 years. I don't know what it was but I was chunking every single one of my irons. The fact that it happened all the time means there's likely only one thing wrong, but I'll be damned if I know what it is. I tried everything to correct it, nothing worked.

I know it's normal to take steps back after making changes to your swing, but I'll be damned if this is isn't frustrating.

Caveat--I'm neither an instructor nor a great golfer(12-13ish), but I can empathize with both the shanks and the chunks.  And I'm a major swing tinkerer.

When I chunk my irons, it's generally because I'm swaying in my backswing--shifting way too much weight onto my back foot.  I basically never recover, and hit behind the ball.  I watch videos of guys like Adam Scott and see how solid his right leg is on his backswing, and I try to think of that.  It generally helps me.

I'm going to see the Sox down in Baltimore in June. Any recommendations on where to play on Saturday morning?

Where are you staying/how far are you willing to drive?

Diamond Ridge is one of Baltimore County's public courses, but it is a pretty decent track.  As are Greystone and The Woodlands.  All are viewable here:  http://www.baltimoregolfing.com/sites/courses/layout9.asp?id=457&page=14033  I haven't played Timbers of Troy, but I've heard good things.  http://www.timbersgolf.com/layout9.asp?id=146&page=2076

If you want to travel a little more out west to the Frederick area, there are some pricey, but beautiful, courses that I have played a ton at.  Whiskey Creek is an Ernie Els design.  Great course, most known for the remains of an old farmhouse that are right in the middle of the 18th fairway.  It is a beautiful course.  As is Maryland National.  Except for the 15th.  I hate that hole.  Pretty long Par 5 from the tips, with a tee shot with a ton of carry over wetlands.  But it is a beautiful course.  Finally, I'd recommend Worthington Manor out in that area.

Finally, it would be a very long drive and probably would take 5 hours plus, but if you're looking for something more novel, Renditions is pretty cool to play once.  Known as Golf's "Grand Slam Experience," they have created replicas of the more famous holes in golf, including Amen Corner, the 17th at Sawgrass, Merion #11 (where the U.S. Open is this year) and Oakmont #3 (with the Church Pew bunkers).  It's nice to play once, but gets a lot of traffic, especially on the weekends.  And plus, the weekend you are down here is the weekend of the U.S. Open, and since it is at Merion and they have a replica hole from there, they are bound to have some sort of promotion.  (For example, they have Medinah Number 3, Hole 6 there, and in 2006 when the U.S. Open was there, the weekend of the tournament they had a promotion where if your foursome made either birdie or par from the tips playing best-ball, you'd get some free golf for the remainder of the year.  So I'd expect something similar the weekend you are in town.)

Anyway, that should be a good starting point.  Feel free to ask me any more questions about golfing down here, I've played a ton of courses down here and if you are looking for something more specific, such as a type of course (open fairways or tight fairways, "tough but fair," etc) let me know.

I use V1.   A lot of PGA Professionals and golf instructors use it.  There are a few helpful tutorials you can find on the internet that help you in what you should be looking for.  I use it for shaft angle work and head position more than anything.  Not having a high speed camera can really do some funking things on analyzing your downswing.

It is a fantastic tool, but I try to not over obsess about it.

SoShers,

I'm thinking of doing a 3-4 day golf school trip with the wife this summer.   Ideally be driveable from CT (by car, not golf club).    Looking to be a combo good golf school and nice resort with good restaurants kind of thing.   NY, VT, ME, NH, MA, PA, NJ would all seem to work.   Any suggestions?

Hope to finally get out on the course over the next few days.  Haven't played except for the round in FL when my son ran over my clubs.
