SEC won't let aggy play Texas - they're afraid that a Texas beatdown would hurt the brand and recruiting.

Edit - looks more likely to be Arky or The Hat.

ACC has a great set of opponents for their to 6 bowls,    and BC gets PSU in what sure looks like the most boring game of the season.

Boston College finished 7-5 and gets to play a 6-6 major conference team in a city people actually want to visit. Is that really a worse outcome than they deserved?

No, not worse than they deserved,  but a snorefest of a games against a team that went 2-6 in a mediocre conference, and who's signature win was in August against Central Florida.

At least both teams will be able to tell tales about the day they almost beat a team that is in the playoff.

The other 3 tier 1 ACC bowl teams play Georgia, LSU, AND Arizona State,  who are all dramatically more interesting opponents.

Obviously in many ways this is a good thing for BC.   They will get some fans at this game.   They also have a real chance of winning this game, where they would have been close to double digit underdog if they players any of the other tier 1 opponents.

But if you rank the 30 or so bowls in terms of fun to watch,  this bowl will be easily bottom 5

It'd be pretty cool if you managed to snag one of the Yankee luxury boxes. But watching two mediocre teams play in a baseball stadium when it'd likely to be freezing out?

I think this is great for BC so long as they win. They're still rebuilding and get to play one of their recruiting rivals. These kids don't realize PSU is 6-6. They're also rebuilding.

Also ... As I said in another thread this helps BC if they have a better record in the next couple of seasons because they will likely go to a better bowl.

I know this is CFB triteness (is that a word?) but honestly this team just needs the extra practice time for its young team (3rd youngest in the nation btw).

BC is fortunate to face a brand name B1G team in a down year for the conference. I believe they're a better team, with a better schedule, too.

(UCF, Temple (and Akron) OOC v. Colorado State and USC (and Maine) is NO CONTEST)

FSU and OSU about even
Clemson about even with Wiscy
Louisville better than anyone else PSU played except MSU

BC should win this. PSU lost to UIUC and got destroyed by Northwestern

Your usage here is confusing; according to every source I've seen, the Orange and Russell (and Citrus if it'd happened) are the ACC tier 1 bowls. The Belk/Pinstripe/Gator/Sun/Music City are Tier 2.

e.g. http://www.csnwashington.com/ncaa/explaining-accs-bowl-selection-process

Actually everything I have read the ACC uses Tier One, and Tier two to describe the block of games that they control the ACC team in.  Tier one  bowls have a choice of teams in bucket A,  tier 2 teams get to pick from Bucket B and anyone who falls out of bucket A.    The only 5 teams the tier one bowls could consider bidding on was  Louisville, Duke, ND, BC, and NC St

None of the 6-6 teams were eligible for a tier One bown

The Belk Bowl will be in what the ACC calls its “Tier One” bowls with the Sun Bowl, Pinstripe and either the Music City or Gator. There will be four bowls in the first tier, and either the Music City or Gator will take an ACC team but not both.

I'm not sure I get the point you're trying to make unless you're implying Penn State is a top team.  Having seen them in person, they are boring as hell and I imagine it will end up being something akin to the Michigan-Penn State game I had the unfortunate pleasure of seeing live.

Auburn, to my pleasant surprise, gets a New Year's Day Bowl.  Outback Bowl in Tampa vs Wisconsin.

There's also the stolen win against Ohio State.

Viewers should do chores when the PSU offense is on the field, but their defense is as good as any in college football.

I think you're conflating whining with commenting.  I don't find BC or Penn State's brand of football to be particularly compelling, especially when BC's offense isn't clicking.  Can't speak as much to Penn State but other people seem to agree.

Huskers - USC in the Holiday Bowl in a thrilling 24 v. 25 matchup.

That game is actually going to sell out, guaranteed. Nice matchup for San Diego, with Husker fans who will travel vs. a local USC team on their first trip to the Holiday bowl.

Interesting that Mike Riley has already had one shot at the Trojans this year. I wonder if he is going to coach the game or if the remnants of Pelini's staff will do the job.

Assistant coach Barney Cotton is the interim head coach in the bowl game for Nebraska.  Was announced when Pelini was canned.

Here's the full bowl list. As usual, fuck the sponsors and their official naming conventions.

If you can't figure out the real name of the Outback or GoDaddy.com bowls, you're a worthless human being.

That Rutgers-UNC game in Detroit is pretty funny on paper.

Any other matchups where the jokes are easy?

The Bahamas Bowl is being played in a stadium that seats 15,000 people.
