Would have liked both of those guys on the ps, too bad

Really hoping Finch makes it. Gray on from the other thread is really good news.

Shocked that Brandon Coleman has not yet been signed.

It's been all over Twitter that he cleared waivers and signed with the Saints practice squad.

Here's one:

As I reported earlier, Brandon Coleman has cleared waivers and signed with the Saints practice squad. Opportunity for him to develop.

QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson signed to the #Patriots practice squad, per league source. Worked out for them on Saturday.

Bethel-Thompson is an interesting choice. I vaguely remember the previews from the 2011 draft. The guy is 6-3, ran a 4.87 40. He has a cannon for an arm, but isn't very accurate. He was the 30th QB prospect in the 2011 draft according to PFW. He started out at UCLA as a walk-on, but transferred to Sacramento State. He has some Arena and UFL experience. The 49ers have liked him. Last year, the Vikings kept him around a few weeks.

He might be a good guy to keep around to practice against for those opponents who have quarterbacks who can hurt you deep, now that Mallett is gone.

Kinda crazy they've only filled 3/10 PS spots, though.  I thought in past years they always filled it within a few hours after they were able to sign guys.

They still need to clear a roster spot to sign a LS. Really thought when Mallett was traded Aiken would be resigned in like 4 seconds.

Are they allowed to practice with a LS who's not on the roster?  If so, they might go that route to get more of an opportunity to evaluate conventional players before signing someone (maybe Aiken) a day or two in advance of Sunday's game.

Bruce Aryans on Gaston during camp: http://arizonasports.com/40/1756208/Gaston-wants-to-be-a-nasty-defensive-lineman

"Bruce Gaston did a heck of a job on our defensive line -- really showed up, blowing up some blockers and made a little name for himself in that scrimmage (Saturday)," said head coach Bruce Arians, who later told Bickley and Marotta on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM that Gaston "is a big, powerful guy. I mean when I saw a couple of offensive lineman come backwards, it's just like, 'Whoa, who's over there?' I thought it was (Darnell Dockett) or Calais (Campbell) or somebody, and it was (No.) 75. I said, 'Hmm, I like that.'"

Jake Bequette sort of fascinates me---he's hardly been allowed on the field at all, and yet they continue to hold on to him, suggesting they see something there.

It's interesting how we often see the PS and end of roster as almost fungible. The guy can be elevated. Jake's pay cut may be as high as 83%.

But playing football for 96 is probably better than most other things.

It takes a lot of edge rushers some time to develop (Vrabel, Ninko, TBC). Here's hoping he's the next player like that.

He's been on the active roster for the past two seasons, so how many seasons of PS eligibility does he have? Just this one, right?

James Harrison. UFA. On and off practice squad and cut three times. On to Baltimore and cut there. Weight room accident brings him back to Steelers, and ..

With the current rules that is correct.

Those guys are his best comparison too. Bequette is a bit bigger than them but he has the balance and agility that a 3-4 OLB needs. I still think he's a quality football player and it appears the team agrees.

After watching all 4 preseason games, Bequette hustles and seems to be strong at the point of attack. Unfortunately for him, Buchanan and Moore rush the passer better.

I think it might actually be 2 ps years because he's played so little but I'd be shocked if they kept him around that long.

Can't link, but roster on Pats' web site has Finch listed on the PS.

EDIT: and not Bethel-Thompson

That didn't take long!

Presumably one of them will come back when they resolve the longsnapper question (either by promoting Hughlett or picking up someone else and dropping him)

Guessing Finch, at least, was looking for a better opportunity and didn't find one
