We are aware. If you are indulging in schadenfreude this article will probably bring you more than a simple tweet. BTW- none of this would be happening if the refs didn't make a clear touchdown magically disappear in Durham :)
Naw, I don't really get a rise out of BC being bad at sports. I don't root for them, but I do enjoy when their teams are pretty good. I just thought it was an amazing fact.

Didn't know it was possible to be gut punched this season but that had shades of Villanova in the Sweet 16. Fuck me

That Nova game still bothers me 10 years later.
Without rehashing too much pain, suffice it to say I feel the same way. I still watch the highlights of that season from time to time and would have loved to see them get a chance against Florida. Incredible team that year.

Yeah. I rationalize it away knowing that Smith broke his wrist but, man, that team was loaded. Dudley, Smith, Williams, Rice, Hinnant, Marshall, Akida McLain.

Omg. Just saw the end

Clemson is going to get its arse kicked Saturday. Honestly, the kids should come out en masse and go crazy rooting for the Eagles Saturday.

Our student body will be too busy practicing for their quidditch matches.

If Boston College loses to Clemson Saturday, it would become the first major conference school to go winless in league play in both football and men's basketball in the same academic year since World War II.

Why doesn't TCU (SWC) count?

I don't know that's what ESPN said. Was TCU or SWC major?

Yes, but our men's/women's hockey teams are a combined 60-5-5 so everyone can suck it!

At least Christian can sell new recruits on (i) being able to play right away in one of the preeminent power conferences; and (ii) be part of the solution building the team back to prominence and (iii) playing on national television a handful of times, right? Of course, he should leave out that the AD is an indifferent stooge and that Conte resembles a morgue on most days.

0-19.

So proud of these kids. They really fought through a lot of adversity to achieve their goal of winning 7 OOC games this year.

Wish we could have had a healthy Clifford play with Anderson and Hanlan for more than like 5 minutes.

Baghdad Bob, er, GDF, er, Bates with his "don't jump off the ledge" email.
Dear Fellow Eagles,

As a highly valued and loyal supporter, we write to provide you with an update on the state of Boston College Athletics.

I understand and certainly share your disappointment in the record of our football and men’s basketball teams this past season. Ultimately, our University mission is “Ever to Excel” and winning is a significant measure of excellence. I believe winning is important because it is developmentally meaningful, and nobody is more disappointed in the record of these two highly visible sports than our coaches and administration. We feel most for the student-athletes on these teams whose tireless efforts and dedication were not rewarded in the win-loss column.

Even the most successful intercollegiate football and basketball programs have suffered through losing seasons. Ours have understandably received more attention due to our failure to win an ACC game in these two sports this year. This has been well documented in the news media recently and will continue to be in the coming days. We offer no excuses for these unsuccessful seasons.

When times get tough, people want to know two things – how it happened and what will be done about it. How did we arrive at this point? It’s easy to cast blame, but the harder, more productive course of action is to acknowledge our failures and learn from them. What will be done about it? We have two excellent coaches in Steve Addazio and Jim Christian, and I have total confidence in their ability to fix the situation. Both understand the challenges ahead and have plans in place to address them and produce winning programs. I have absolutely no doubt they will succeed.

Administratively, the University recently announced a commitment of more than $200 million to improve athletics facilities. This speaks to the support of our administration as we continuously assess our needs and plan for the future. There are some tremendous success stories unfolding at this moment, from our women’s ice hockey team’s undefeated season, our men’s ice hockey team’s postseason possibilities and a terrific start for some of our spring sports. We completed our fall sports seasons with our highest fall finish ever in the Learfield Sports Director’s Cup standings. Great things are happening in BC Athletics.

Yet, in the world of college athletics, we must also win in football and basketball. As we have in the past, we will fight back, and we will win. We are BC.

Thank you for your patience, loyalty and continued support.

Sincerely,

Brad Bates
William V. Campbell Director of Athletics

Here's Hohler's hit piece. Reading through it now but curious if I could turn it into a drinking game. Drink at every mention of shouldn't move to the ACC, academic standards, facilities etc.

Yikes GDF:
DeFilippo, who retired in 2012, said, “Tom and Al did really good jobs here, but coaches and athletic directors don’t stay forever. People get tired of you, you get tired of them, and it’s time to move on.’’
Not sure why Hohler focuses so much on TOBy and his laminated resume and not the exit of Jags, which is significantly more controversial.

The fuck?
In one of BC’s most embarrassing episodes last season, the Eagles defeated a stunningly inferior team from Howard University, 76-0, the game shortened by 10 minutes because of the mismatch.

BC used Howard to fill a hole in its schedule after Bates failed to keep an elite-division team, New Mexico State, from reneging on an agreement to play the Eagles in Chestnut Hill.
Overall, nothing groundbreaking for people following the program and some of the stuff in there is classic Hohler bullshit (see above for a couple examples) but nice to hear some prominent alums publicly stating that they're pissed off.

Is Beerbohm the guy from like 1999 who looked like one of the Backstreet Boys?
If there had been a Backstreet Boy who could throw down put back dunks, Beerbohm would have fit the bill. He was a key role player on the 2001 team that dominated the big east with Troy Bell, Kenny Harley, Xavier singletary and Uka Agbai. The good old days of Al Skinner feel like another lifetime ago.

USC might have been one of the worst possible matchups that we could have had that year in the tournament. BC's strength was its defensive pressure but we went up against a team with future NBAers like Clancy, Trepagnier, Scal, etc. This team could certainly use a few Ryan Sidney's right about now.

Read the article and there was nothing new or earth shattering that we all don't know or have commented on. Clearly showed Bayes and Daz are learning in the job, that there is no diversity in the coaching ranks and basically BC, in its current state, is not a great place for a P5 caliber athlete to attend.

Passed over the Spaz era for the most part but consider who was the contributing "reporter" along with Hohler.....that's right.....Blauds. Need we go any further?

The quotes by the Godfather were classic but the one that got me was him saying Donahue wasn't given enough time to turn the program around. The dude was there for 4 seasons and like Spaz, each year it got worse. And the article confirmed what the worst kept secret over at the Heights and something Moose always said......GDF truly wanted to be the football HC as well as the AD

Elton Tyler and Jonathan Depina. Depina was the PG on South Boston when they won back to back state championships. He ended up at Umass and was just an ok player. Tyler went to West Roxbury high and ended up at Miami. He was a solid big. Michael Bradley, who had committed to be part of the class after them, backed out and went to HC then transferred to Villanova. The Boston pipeline that helped BC get kids like Dana Barros and Scoonie Penn dried up pretty much completely after Depina and Tyler were denied admission. Fuck John Mahoney.

This is so wrong. JOB used his chips with Herran and Penn and it was embarrassing. He then went over the head of admissions and told kids they were in without clearance. It was all on him. Mahoney is in the clear on this one.

No question about Herren being a bad fit. I was there during the last 2 O'brien years and first 2 Skinner years but I forgot that Penn was suspended for academic issues. I remember the fault laying with Mahoney when Depina and Tyler were denied but I probably bought O'brien's version of the story a little too completely and shouldn't have trusted his narrative given his demise at Ohio State. I shouldn't have been so strident about Mahoney. Still, the entire episode was an embarrassment for BC and killed its ability to recruit Massachusetts kids.

Scoonie Penn literally couldn't read when he reached BC's campus.
An illiterate teenager managed to become a Big-10 TV commentator ? Stop the presses!
Maybe ESPN can do an "Outside the Lines" on illiterate kid from Salem making good.
Or maybe you need to check yourself. Or maybe it was the "other" Scoonie Penn you were thinking of.

Scoonie is a great story and was a great player but it's well-known in BC circles that he had slipped through the cracks. Not sure what is so controversial.
