There is an entire day of dunk contests on NBA TV.

Not mad.

Canadians shouldn't count as world players. They should be America's bench.

So Carmelo Anthony will play in the ASG and THEN shut it down. Good to see his priorities are in order. And God forbid we could hold the ASG without him.

Situation would be different if the game was elsewhere.

The Knicks have been wanting him to shut is down for a month now. Can't blame Melo for wanting to play and then play in the NY spectacle.

How so? No Melo would be less tickets sold? Or less ratings? I doubt it. How important is a tepid applause for the home town hero to play 15 minutes then spend the rest of the game on the bench while Breen speculates about his uncertain future?

You don't have to like the guy, and I'd even agree that he hasn't used his (incredible) talent as well as he should have, but he's one of the more exciting players to watch in an All-Star context. And this All-Star game is the most important game he's going to play before 2017, if ever, can you blame him for wanting to be there?

I don't get what being a shithead about the guy accomplishes.

Melo doesn't care about ratings he cares about being the host to all the stars coming to HIS city. The ASG is a huge deal to the star(s) of the host city and if you aren't involved in the game you aren't getting the full experience as the host. I'm sure he hosting parties and events for his friends coming into town and wants to be a part of this game.

If Melo's team was competing for playoff seeding and he was playing in this game injured that would be a far different story. In this case the Knicks want him to shut it down for surgery which Melo is doing following the game. It's his time he has earned the right to enjoy it especially when he's been enduring his Knick tenure very professionally considering the circumstances.

Love Durant's challenge. You think you deserve to be in the All-Star game over me? Play me in one-on-one for it.

There has to be something more entertaining for these guys to do than this skills challenge.

I really enjoyed it. Especially with Patrick Beverley stealing it, as he do.

This should be a two hour event, not a 3+ hour thing. They mix in way, way, way too much boring shit.

Zach Lavine talking about being inspired by Space Jam is terrific.

Apparently Patrick Beverley just carried the ball to the three-point line. Beverley cheating in the skills competition is the most Beverley thing.

Yeah I know this whole night is dumb but I'm such a sucker for it. The players all look like they have fun and that adds a lot to it. I did like the individual skill rather than the race. It basically became who could make a three first (which I guess it would anyway but I liked the race against the clock)

Although Reggie Miller is terrible.

I think the commentary was fucking with some of them. More reason to attack Reggie Miller's trachea with a trowel.

LaVine sucks at basketball most of the time, but good lord can he dunk.
He's like twelve years old and he has all the tools to be in the league forever. He might never be an All-Star, but he can come to the dunk contest every year as far as I'm concerned.

Wasn't meant to be an indictment of his future, he's 19 and could still certainly be a good or even great player. But right now he mostly sucks at NBA basketball. Fortunately, he doesn't suck whatsoever at dunking.

Next year on Friday instead of the US vs world they should have the 2010 Kentucky team play the 2012 Kentuxky team
