Here
I wasn't sure where to put this, and saw no training camp thread, so why not start one.

So maybe Easley is the answer to our problems in the secondary? Is there a smaller interior DT in the league?

In addition to Tarell Brown, the Pats signed rookie WR Zach D'Orazio out of Akron. He was on the team for about a month earlier in the offseason.

Apparently they had to do 20 sprints in a particular time and Blount only did 8.

His name is forever more "Fat Blount"

If I remember correctly, you get a day on the stationary bike and.... voila, you pass the running test tomorrow at a time and place that is outside the view of fans/media.

Looking for both to practice tomorrow.

Sure, but I doubt we'll be throwing a pass to Brady this year.

And this was a fan shot video.

I know BB would say they are Football players....

But Dont do that again this year.  We do not need our 37yo QB with at least 1 gimpy knee running patterns.

You may now go back to drinking the punch while avoiding the turd.

Too bad Shaq and Tre won't play directly next to each other. At the very least there's a t-shirt to be had from a Mason-Jackson Line.

BB says Dobson came to camp in "great" shape and "put himself in good position."

I'm not holding my breath but Dobson emerging as a legitimate contributor would be a nice X factor for this team.

Agreed, but there are only so many snaps to go around.  He'd have to be pretty damn good to start taking snaps from Edelman or LaFell.  From that view he is really competing with Amendola for playing time.  Which, if we get end of season Amendola is again a decently high bar to clear.  Depth is always nice and I don't hate Dobson by any means.  I just think his upside is not higher then the WRs already in front of him.

I agree that he is very unlikely beat out Edelman or LaFell but I don't think taking snaps from Amendola is that unrealistic.  A leap in performance from Dobson would also give us much better insurance if LaFell misses any time due to injury, as he is much better suited to play the X receiver role.

Super Nomario chiming in with the percent of snaps played in 3 WR sets in 3...2....1....

Amendola had 580/1300 snaps or about 45%; Hooman 551; Edelman and LaFell 2153 btween them--I think 3 WR sets occured on about 1/3 snaps.

Mason-Jackson line?  That's worse than my continual references to the NHLPA in the other thread...

I think the Dobson/Amendola situation is all about matchups. Against Seattle, where they play a bunch of zone and keep guys in front of them, Amendola and Edleman as a tandem were valuable, they run quick precise routes and give Brady targets when he needs to throw it quick with an aggressive rush. If Dobson elevates his game, as a taller receiver, he'll be more valuable as the third wideout against a team that plays man coverage as primary defense. Taller and able to take advantage of matchups especially if the corners aren't particularly tall.

My guess is if Dobson plays well enough to earn playing time, it will be as the 3rd wideout and that he and Amendola will share that spot depending on matchups.

The problem that for these guys is special teams. If Dobson is a floating 3rd or 4th wideout, how often is he going to be active on game day? He literally did not play a single snap on special teams in 2014. Amendola returned kicks, but it's not clear that he's a good solution there. Gibson and Tyms played just a tiny handful. There aren't a lot of roster spots for backups who don't contribute in the kicking game.

Along those lines, a guy that intrigues me is Travaris Cadet. He played a lot of special teams last year - 9th on the Saints, playing 35.7% - and can return kicks. He's listed as a running back, but he played some WR in college, and the Saints really used him as a receiver. Per Brian F he ran 185 routes last year and only had 10 carries. For his NFL career he's been targeted with a pass 61 times and has just 11 carries. And as Brian also points out, the Saints lined him up everywhere. Rather than carry a fourth or fifth WR who will play sparingly on both offense and special teams, Cadet as a fifth or sixth RB might make sense - he can backup White in the third-down role, return kicks, do some gadget plays, back up at slot WR, and contribute on special teams.

Dobson got stripped by Collins after a nice catch today, and then the whole offense had to run a lap, but I'm not sure that it was because of the Dobson fumble. He made a couple of other nice catches as well.

I wish I could source this, but I don't remember where I read it.  I heard the lap was because the whistle hadn't blown and no one on offense went to pursue the fumble.  BB pulled them into the huddle and then made them run a lap.

To those who know more than I on these things, any interest in Tony McDaniel now that he's been cut by SEA? We've got plenty of cap room, though I know some of that is being saved for Jones/Hightower/Collins, in all likelihood.

To me the only part of training camp that matters is the injury report.

Who's getting dinged up early?

Who's going to most likely miss games?

etc...

The number of TD's, INT's, tackles, etc aren't nearly as important (though there is an issue if the statistics are way out of whack). Otherwise it's all noise.

This is indeed huge.  But there is incredible competition at OL, CB, and RB, and maybe even WR if the news about Dobson is accurate.  So I am going to pay close attention to those positions and see how it shakes out.

Some folks waived /injured: OT Kevin Hughes, DT Vince Taylor (hasn't practiced yet so actually going to waived / PUP), and 6th-round TE A.J. Derby, who has not cleared waivers yet.

I wonder if this means the Jake Bequette experiment at TE is going well.
