Zdeno Chara hasn't taken the ice for the last few shifts & is not on the #Bruins bench

The little town of Bethlehem.
The 1st goal, Smith looked like he knocked in a rebound by swiping backward with his glove. The second, a PP (mystery call on Hayes) goal, was just a nasty top corner by Zuccarello.

I continue to be underwhelmed by the Hayes-Spooner-Connolly line. Connolly has had his moments though. Hayes has been bad, phantom call aside. The only thing I have seen him do well so far is stand in front of the net.

Smith has been bad. He can't be pleased with his effort so far, and as much as that is a nice shot by Zuccarello, he lost the puck behind the net and was behind on the play when Zuccarello got it.

Morrow has been solid, and the Bergeron line has been great.

Fake edit - Smith just had some nice saves.

BOSTON -- Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara suffered an upper-body injury during the first period of Thursday's game against the New York Rangers at TD Garden and will not return, the team announced.

In his first exhibition game of the preseason, Boston's captain played three shifts and logged 1:57 of ice time before he suffered the injury. He controlled the puck near the Bruins' bench, and after he dumped it in, the Rangers' Ryan Bourque checked Chara into the boards.

There goes my chance to see Tanner Glass break Shithead's face.

I mean he's a shithead and I want him to die in a fire but these announcers are awful

"hit from behind, and the puck wasn't there"

(replays)

well, it's not from behind I guess, looks like from the side. still dangerous though
(replay)
He was off balance when he got hit because he was playing the puck

So. none of what you said at first then?

Oh, I didn't think it was a bad hit, I just wanted to see Tanner Glass superpunch Rinaldo's head into the stands.

Hell of a shot from Spooner, I don't think that took a deflection.

I'm unreasonably excited for the 3 forwards comp.

and this is why I think it's a great idea to do the 3 on 3 for a couple games even if it wasn't a tie. Get this stuff figured out.

What's the procedure for expiring penalties? Do they play 4 on 4 or does someone have to come off?

I believe the announcers said they'd play 4 on 4 until the next stoppage.

I was really encouraged by the younger D-men.  Irwin (I realize he's not a younter D) looks like a player and Colin Miller and Morrow were both very impressive.  I don't see how they all make the team unless Chara's injury is serious, though.

I agree that the Spooner line looks "meh"  so far but I think Hayes is the issue.  Individually I saw flashes from Connolly and thought Spooner was pretty good, but Hayes has been very underwhelming in 2 pre-season games so far.

I missed the 2nd half of the game, but it appears Shithead swiped at an official? Suspension looming?
Source? I haven't seen anything on this and didn't hear/see about it during the game. He actually has played quite well this preseason and hasn't crossed the line, in the sample size of two whole games.

after his hit on on Hughes and the little "fight" with Glass a linesman was getting Rinaldo off the ice and he kind of gave him a "get off me" swipe. WThe announcers mentioned it but then again they said his hit on Hughes was dangerous because it was from behind (nope) Hughes was looking at the boards (nope) and the puck wasn't in the area (nope) so grain of salt of salt and all that. He definitely did a little something but wasn't much to it.

Sadly dafoomie cut off too soon at the end of this

Looks like he kind of swipes/shoves the linesmans arm out of the way. I assume this is after the Glass altercation.

That twitter link doesn't work, btw.

Interesting to see/know. I'd be surprised if anything comes of it, but who knows at this point.

I agree with this. Spooner has been pretty meh, but Connolly has looked the best out of the three. He works very well when set up in the zone, and hit the post twice IIRC. Hayes looks overmatched though, and his style of play did not seem to mesh well with Spooner or Connolly.

As for shithead, I thought his line played well and he was effective. He's just so fucking detestable though.

He's just trying to raise his (Games Suspended)/(Actual NHL Goals Scored) rate stat.  If he accidentally scores a goal before getting suspended again, it will drop below 1.5 and he will have to work even harder to keep it up.

For me, Colin Miller just passes the "eye test" out there.  Love his poised, confident decision making thus far and his rocket shot doesn't hurt much either.
Absolutely. I went in last night intentionally watching him and Irwin closely and Miller definitely came out the better of the two. In position, stayed on his skates, played the puck well consistently, and he had at least two times he stood up attackers solo and swept the puck away cleanly. The rocket shot was also a really nice surprise; if he profiles out as a Boychuk replacement I won't be mad at that.

Irwin looked ok, he got caught puck watching once or twice but he handled himself well in all three zones.

I've been very pleasantly surprised with Irwin, Miller, and Morrow so far this preseason. I'd love to see them get a shot early this season.

B's are home against Detroit tonight. Bruins are streaming the game on their website. Rask is getting his first action and is expected to play the entire game.

Lineup:

Marchand - Bergeron - Eriksson
Beleskey - Czarnik - Pastrnak
Vatrano - Spooner - Hayes
Kelly - Kemppainen - Talbot

Krug - Trotman
Arnesson - K. Miller
Morrow - C. Miller

Rask
Gustavsson

Czarnik getting a look in Krejci's spot. Nice opportunity for him. Otherwise, fairly close to what we'll likely see opening night.

Yeah, they need to turn the crowd and on ice mic's up a bit. I'm enjoying the commentary free broadcast though.

They should shorten preseason intermissions from 18 to 12-13 minutes and extend players to 23-24 imho

Rask has looked like he's going through the motions. Feel like the Bruins have played well overall. The Bergeron line looks great as usual.

Man, Spooner just got robbed.

@ MSG again the Rangers tonight. Lineup is ugly, we get the 3rd line and then 3 4th lines.

Hayes - Spooner - Connolly
Blidh - Kemppainen - Talbot
Shithead - Sexton - Randell
DeFazio - Khokhlachev - Ferlin

Irwin - McQuaid
Breen - Trotman
Cross - C. Miller

Gustavsson
Smith

Basically throwing all the guys fighting for bottom 6 spots out there at once. Not expecting many goals.
