If you haven't noticed, Harper is beyond on fire. 5 HRs in last two games.

6 in 3 days. The man is on fire. Great day for the number 34 in DC.

And the starting pitching has finally arrived.  Nats starters have now gone five straight games (and part of a sixth) without giving up a single earned run.

Stras > DL. Like JD Drew, will have a successful career in all likelihood. Very good player. As with Drew, will likely never live up to the early hype. And like Drew, is a living breathing disabled list.

Enjoy him while he is here. I do not expect this Boras client to be re-upped in Washington.

Edit. This time, it's an oblique.

Is it possible there's a worse manager in MLB than Matt Williams? Certainly never one who was worse and won manager of the year, right?

With the Sox suck I've been joining the rest of the family watching Nats more often and I am just flabbergasted.

Last night down a run at home Dsmond leads off the 9th with a single and he has the 6th place hitter bunt him over for the next guy sporting a 280 OBP and following him a pinch hitter for what was the pitchers spot. Ridiculous.

Strasburg was pulled from today's game in the 5th with a back problem

And tying these last two posts together, Williams brought in Fister to replace Strasburg, with the pitcher's slot due up second in the bottom half of the inning. Because he wanted Fister to go several innings, he was then forced to let him hit in the middle of what turned out to be the go ahead rally. Why wouldn't you bring in a short reliever for one inning, pinch hit for him and then bring in Fister?

Williams is the worst in-game manager I've ever seen.

And again tonight. Staked to a 5-3 lead with 2 outs in the 7th, he let's an obviously struggling Casy Jansen sporting 87 mph heat give up the 4th and 5th runs leaving with 2 runners on for Rivera. And Rivera gives up a double to blow the game.

No urgency at all. You have to have Storen ready to get the last out of the 7th a against Piscotty and Steroid Peralta.

Atrocious.

Matt Williams needs to be fired. It looks like he just benched Harper for not running out a popup.

I really thought their pen would be solid again.  Tanner Roark going from 15 game winner to ineffective swing man has hurt big time.
Aaron Barrett breaking and Casey Janssen being ineffective didn't help much either.

Losing Craig Stammen really turned out to be the most significant injury loss this season.

Trading Tyler Clippard was a mistake

Clippard's been sneaky-bad this year; even before tonight's blowup his xFIP was above 5, he's just had a sub-.200 BABIP and good luck. He's worked out (for the Mets especially) from a results perspective, but from a secondary stats perspective I'm not sure it was a horrible decision for the Nats - if his results matched his peripherals everyone would be gushing about what good timing the Nats had to move on.

The Harper -Pap situation seems to be a reminder that  we had Pap at the right time, when he was lovably stupid.  Being that dumb but thinking you're a mature veteran is a problem.

Manager and entire coaching staff dusted. Matt Williams first manager to get clipped year after being named manager of the year
