I'll summarize the 2016 BC football season for you:

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Schedule sucks. Team looks shitty. And I'm sure the offense will be boring. Hey, at least the hoops team might actually have a pulse.

At least the buffoon in charge has a ridiculous contract and would basically have to repeat last year's historic level of futility to even begin to be in real trouble, and even if he went 0-12 they might be too cheap to fire him. my god how they gave him an extension after a couple mediocre seasons is utterly beyond me.

I think they might be a bit better because they have the 5th year QB from the SEC. The only thing the buffoon in charge has done well so far is take kids who weren't quite good enough for the SEC and bring them to town and beat the bottom ACC, and crappy OOC schedule teams with those FAs

Austin Burton decommits from BC and immediately commits to UCLA.
He's part of the Burton clan. How big of a loss is this? I'm not a follower of high school recruiting. I know he played in Newton and then moved to Florida to play better competition down there. Just wondering. UCLA is better program than BC so it doesn't surprise me that he would decommit if they were offering him a scholarship.

I'm no recruiting czar but I went to school with the (older) Burtons; he was definitely the best QB South has had that I've seen (not saying much; the previous best played sparingly at Yale). I had no idea he had even committed to BC -- I don't think it's a huge deal. He's probably at least as good as Troy Flutie was at this point but not much more than a depth loss IMO. I'd be surprised to see him be a factor at UCLA.

Are we building in excuses already???

https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/colleges/2016/08/31/football-team-tackles-challenging-itinerary-ireland-trip/8Uh0JyELLh2aRD9ntK37pL/story.html?p1=Article_Related_Box_Article

Never seen anything quite like it to be honest. The guy is really a career assistant who somehow buffaloed his way into a payday. I was a big fan but his act has grown old and he will never get this team to 8-4, 9-3 level program, no matter what the schedule is like. This week the built in excuse is we didn't have enough time to game plan....there are distractions in Ireland.....we're young....injuries will kill us....the QB situation is in flux. Just about all of that is in his control. I'm come to the determination that he can't make a decision. And when he does he panics and it is usually wrong. This looks like another long year.

Eh, I read the same crap when Notre Dame played Navy there four years ago, then Kelly finished an undefeated regular season. Coaches don't like it when their routines are interrupted.

The kids are smarter about it.

Huge game for the Eagle.

BC should have the 4 gimmie OOC wins

They have the 3 teams in conf who are just much better and should be losses.

Then you have the 5 middling games (Wake, GT, NC St, VT, Cuse). Teams that aren't very good, but don't totally suck (well Wake might completely suck), And GT is right in the dead middle of this group They need 2 wins in this group for Daz to call it a success, 3 wins to get to a mediocre season (in my book)

His passes seem to sail. I see why he had so many INTs at Kentucky. I'm guessing there is about 35000 in the stands (cap 51,000).

D looks good not great. O looks fairly one dimensional so far. Still can't score.

GT defense looked tired. But with no kicking game it puts real pressure on your offense. And BC's offense is not THAT good. Amazing he can't find a kicker. It's going on 4 years now. Unreal.

I wish Johnson's answer to the question of what gave him confidence was "Looking across the field and seeing Stevd Addazio."

The hiring of Steve Addazio was the worst thing this program has done since it's last hire.

Absolute loser. He needs to go. Bring in a young guy.

Year 4 fellas. This is his squad. Blown lead, no kicker....still, hasn't won a conference game in 2 years, had to PAY GT to play this game in Ireland and this blowhard is guaranteed $2.3M per year through the 2020 season. Ain't America great???

What really shocked me was how pathetic they looked up by 4. They had a chance to kill most or all of the clock against a team that has very little quick-score capability.

3 and out after they had moved the ball very well the whole half. 3 runs up the gut. Even the bobble on third down looked like he was going up the middle with it, maybe even a keeper by a kid who doesn't look very mobile.

Inept kicking game precedes Spaz too, doesn't it?

I'm not even mad or disappointed. Just resigned at this point. Apple picking season begins early.
Exactly. We suck so much that a loss like this, which would normally be a TOB special that would ruin my fall, simply doesn't matter.

We had Freese under Spaz at least. And Aponavicous was decent enough for a college kicker. Never thought I would type that last sentence. Where's Brandon Robinson when you need him?

And that's the issue. The program has gone from exciting to frustrating to apathetic. And if your core fan base doesn't care, you're toast. Year 4 of Addazio and no one cares. This thread was radio silent throughout the summer camp. Today people are upset but resigned to it. That's all on Addazio and Bates failing to deliver on their promises when they came on board.

Bates will be gone next year but the Dazzler will be here at least 3 more seasons. No way they are cutting him lose and owing him $10M+ in pay. They will keep him through 2018 at a minimum. What you see is what you get. A 6-6 team playing a weak ass OOC schedule and maybe going 2-6/3-5 in conference on a yearly basis. These two have killed that program.

The terrifying part is with how easy the OOC schedule is moving forward, and the weakness in the lower half of the ACC they are going to at some point in time mix a 7 or 8 win season into the mix, with all the 4-6 win years, and that will just give them a reason to extent the nimwitted buffoon another 5 years.

I disagree, I don't believe they can beat teams unless they have a big talent edge. Any FBS win will be an utter fluke.

I'm a little more optimistic than you. No AD worth his salt will take the BC job without express assurances that he can hire his own football coach -- maybe Daz will get one more year past this season, but I don't see the administration tolerating three more years of this shit.

ok, rather then post my endless rants here, like i did on twitta and facebook during the game, under the clear light of the following day, i'll share my take with you, and if you dont follow me on twitta, you should espically when i'm losing my fucking mind...LIKE YESTERDAY

i saw a lot of good things yesterday, D played great for 57 minutes, O moved the ball pretty well from 2nd qtr on, Hillerman is back and healthy, Towlie will be fine as the year goes on, with the pussy schedule should finish Sept 2-2. I had yesterdays game penciled in as a loss all long because I think Johnson is a hell of a coach and historicly, BC has shit the bed vs teams that run the veer/bone option offence

now as I said all over anti-social media THIS GAME IS 100% ON ADDAZIO. moving the ball, 4&1 from the 15 with a 6'5" 250 QB, tea, rums sup to the line and I'm screaming at the TV HARD COUNT, its fucking football 101, try the hard count to draw D off, a fucking pop warner coach knows to do that. The Dazzler jumps the gun and takes time from the sideline and sends out our 'missing kick team' (i'm not using the words field goal until we make one) and the poor kid (on a scholarship worth $60k for you keeping track) hits a duck hook off a shitty wet field that looks like my usual tee ball on the 3rd at Widow's....

then on 4th and 19 with a rattled run first QB who'd just been sacked for a big loss we drop into the 'Spaz Cushion' to give up a pass for 22 and thats when i and most of us knew it was over.

it was a winter morning 5 years ago that a couple of us went to the newly hired Brad Bates' Town Hall meeting with season ticket holders, Addazio came in and spoke for maybe 20 minutes and had us all so fired up we were ready to suit up to play... what a load of shit that was. He is without a doubt the worst in game head coach I have ever seen (and thats going back to Jim Miller) Daz makes ToBY look like Bear Fucking Bryant, and all of this for more then $2mil a year, whatta country. Now we know why the Gator fans were laughing at us when we were excited about Daz's hiring.

ADDAZIO IS THE OFFENSIVE VERSION OF SPAZ, he is just another career asst who works his way up to co-ordinator then moves on up to a HC job but can't get it done at the top, we've seen this time and again in both college and the NFL. We all know that BC isn't a 'destination' job its a stepping stone job, and the next step Daz takes is into the drink.

Our biggest problem is that we (BC) have no one in the Adminstration who has any institutional memory of what life was like before #22 put us on the national map. I'm about to say something i never thought i'd say but thank god GDF got us into the ACC when we were strong in FB and Hoop, can you imagine where we'd be if we'd be if he didn't? When Leahy became president my biggest fear was that with his Marquette background, he would try to de-emphasize football, he has succeeded in that, and has no problems cashing the ACC checks with little to know investment back into the programs. Bates? google 'empty suit' and you'll see his picture.

we'll still finish the season around 6-6, get a shitty bowl, won't travel and so on and so on

its the BC Football circle of life

I'm not convinced this team gets to 6 wins. I think there is a very good chance they go 0 for the ACC once again. Somebody wake me up in 3 years after Daz gets fired. I hate him so much. Only BC would watch Spaz kill the program...and then hire another one. BC fans don't deserve this but the administration absolutely does. The Bates hire was a complete joke and Daz was more of the same. This program will never be good again.

I was discussing the state of the program last night with my father. We gave up our season tickets this year after a combined 36 years. Is there a more irrelevant program in the "major" conferences (ACC, Big 12, Big 10, Pac 12, SEC) in football/basketball than BC right now? The only "competition" we could come up with were Rutgers and maybe Wake Forest. Even a school like Kansas that is absolute garbage at football still has an elite basketball program.

Northwestern lost to Western Michigan yesterday. They'd give BC a run for their money in any P5 irrelevance contest. Arkansas is sliding into irrelevance too, but that's a recent thing; they've got a lot of history and were good not that long ago.

But yeah, that's a depressing lens through which to view BC athletics. Bad times.

I mean, at some point Wake will be good at bball again. We are historically bad in both revenue sports. Our hoops team has a slimmer of hope but will still be bad. Our football program is done. Kids in the northeast no longer want to go to BC.

We have talent. We don't have people that can fully harness the talent. But we have a good amount of talent.
That makes it a bit more frustrating doesn't it? I'm hoping they get that "fluke" win and it's a start down the right road.

Northwestern went 10-3 last year and was ranked 12 going into their bowl game (they lost the Outback Bowl to Tennessee). They had 10 wins in 2012 and won the Gator Bowl.

Northwestern football is much, much better than BC (agreed their basketball program is irrelevant).

Overall Without getting into it here in a lot of detail, IMHO, Northwestern is to the B1G what BC is to the ACC relative to all sports, physical location in upscale suburbs of major cities with deep pro sports roots as well as academic reputation. Both schools in top 35 of national universities.

And I got up at 4:30am yesterday to watch this. I need my head examined.

We would be Tulane. A great academic school in a pro sports town where NO ONE other than a few alumni give a rats ass about the athletic program. Horrible football and basketball teams, ok Olympic teams and one really good second tier sport (hockey with BC, baseball with the Green Wave). That is the godfather's lasting legacy.

The more concerning comp is Northeastern -- their acceptance rate and incoming student SAT scores aren't meaningfully different from BC's. BU is in the same neighborhood (comparable acceptance rate, slightly lower SATs).

Before Flutie, BC didn't enjoy a reputation as an elite academic institution; it wasn't in the same league as Holy Cross, let alone Notre Dame or Georgetown. I'm afraid we're heading back to those days. The decline of the athletic program is part of it, but it's a broader problem than that.

Edit: Holy Cross has gone downhill, so we'll probably stay ahead of them, but you know what I mean.

That's my point, maybe I see things differently since as a faculty brat I basicly grew up on campus. I know what it was like in the 60s and 70s when BC HC PC shit even Kenmore Kommunity Kollege were all equals. Alumni back then was a wooden horseshoe that sat 26k, it was a big deal when we added the metal stands on the campus side and brought it up to 32k. And God bless him Bill Flynn would schedule anyone anywhere. Not that he didn't make errors (Clebeck) but things started to move and we became more then just a commuter/ New England/NY/NJ school.

We caught lighting in a bottle when Jack sent #22 out there vs JoePa in the Valley and haven't looked back. And the Flutie factor in admissions was real, all of a sudden we go from 8-10k applications for a class of 2500 to 25/30k and now we are a national school 30 something in the US News rankings. That's all Leahy and his minions give a shit about, they don't see that sports was a huge factor in our growth.

Look as you can tell I love BC, everytime I walk on campus I can feel my dad with me. We need a Fr Monan for a new generation to take charge and see what needs to be done. The board of trustees are just rubber stamps for the un-athletic Leahy.

I'm afraid we are one step away from becoming Tufts... With a 44k white elephant stadium
