I didn't see a photo thread for this season, but I might be missing it. Anyway, I captured these last night and thought they were kind of fun, so here you go. Kid was so excited to put his foul ball in his drink holder. Also adding one of Koji in the rain, also from last night, and Koji winding up behind the new net. Just bought a new Canon Powershot SX530HS and I'm having fun with it. Share your best Fenway pics here. I try not to over-filter any more. :p. I got a seat behind the net last month as an experiment (and with my fingers crossed that William Cuevas would make his debut...). Wasn't as bad as I feared, though the straighter shot the better. Field Box 50, about 7 rows back. The mound was OK...

... likewise CF...

... but I did notice it was a lot harder to get sharp focus angled toward third.

LF okay, though...

... and Cuevas DID make his debut so I was happy regardless.

Beautiful shots, sittingstill. What gear are you using for these?

That was my question as well... What are the rules behind bringing some gear in

Ok, if this works you're going to be subjected to a lot of pictures of my kid (and sometimes me)

Standard/mandatory panoramic from my seats

I used to hate the wave. Kellan loves it, so... I've made my peace

My favorite of the weekend, taken during the top of the eleventh on Saturday by a woman behind us.

It was a good weekend...

Thanks! Those were all taken with a Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 lens on a 7Dii body. No one has ever hassled me at Fenway for bringing in anything I can hand-hold--really the biggest limitation is just being responsible and making sure you aren't getting in anyone else's sightline, and from the plate area most everyone's looking in the same general direction. (It's harder further out the baselines, especially if you're trying to shoot a baserunner or infielder while everyone else is looking to the pitcher or the plate! And ideally you'll be in the shade so you can dispense with the sun hood.) FWIW I wouldn't bring into the seats anything really big, like my 300mm f/2.8.

Sitting still -- what are the specs on your Cuevas photo -- ISO, shutter speed, is that all the way out to 400mm? Do you shoot mostly using the manual mode?
Specs on the Cuevas shot: Yes, had the lens fully extended to 400mm; the 7Dii is a crop sensor body so it was effectively 630mm (and I cropped the image). Aperture f/5.6 (best the lens will do, fully extended), shutter 1/3200 (I prefer to shoot pitchers at least 1/2500), ISO 400.

I mainly shoot shutter priority. This was a gorgeous sunny day and I had the sun behind me, but most of the time I’m shooting in the minors under dicey lighting conditions—I pretty much always want as wide an aperture as possible and am pushing the light conditions for action, so I like the ease of the quick switch from fast-action baserunner to pose of triumph on second or a home run trot fistbump with the third base coach or the high fives in the shaded dugout. True pro photographers would be appalled (this is only my second career) but I usually leave the ISO on auto and watch it to see just how far I’m pushing the available light. The newer bodies really handle high ISO well for the sort of work I’m doing. I would never use this for print, for example:

but, I mean, that ain’t bad for nighttime at McCoy and ISO 6400.

Moving my photos to here from the 2015 thread as I couldn't find this one yesterday:

Fenway before dawn on Saturday

Notice the dozens of seagulls inside the stadium sitting on the grass and flying around (you can see one on the right in the below pic)

Looking up at Old Glory before the Run to Home Base

Looking up at Baltimore. For now.

Through a slot on the Monster

Goal: Touch this more than the other guys.
