Hey Vinho what can you tell me about Lindelof?

For United looks like Memphis, Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, and maybe Fellaini will all leave. If that's the case I'd expect a midfielder or two to be brought in.

This feels like the kind of guy Jose would target. When he's at his best, he does a good job of picking players on the rise and not just signing a name (Zlatan being a notable exception).

Four Four Two had a write up on him this summer. I've never seen him play RB, but I have seen him used as a LB for SLB in a pinch. Not a disaster out wide (Unlike David Luiz). He moves well enough to cover that space, but he's better as a CB. Moved to SLB at 17 and played on some of their youth teams. He's a modern CB who can push the ball up. Very quick and has good tackling technique. He's no hack.
Moved into the lineup last fall when Luisao fractured his forearm vs Sporting in a cup match. He did a good job vs Slimani in the pivotal league match at Sporting. They don't win the league without him for the second half of the season. This would be a good pickup for the future.

New article from James Ducker (who's usually pretty good about United related news) says Mourinho is interested in four players over the next two transfer windows. Lindelof and Semedo from Benfica, Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco, and Antoine Griezmann.

Obviously Griezmann is a stud but I have reservations about him coming while Attletico are the better team at the moment, although I felt the same way about Pogba.

I haven't seen much of Bakayoko but Monaco are in scintillating form right now and he would appear to be a long term replacement for Carrick?

@Vinho Tinto What's up with Semedo?

I don't expect him to be sold in January. His buyout is higher than what Lindelof will go for to ManU and there was talk that he was about to sign a new contract. SLB usually makes a deal for less than the buyout, but they would want to keep him thru the rest of this season. Depends if Jose doesn't mind paying a price for a player he doesn't get until next summer.

He's a modern wing back. Got the starting spot last season after Maxi Perriera signed with Porto. Looked good right away, but hurt his meniscus playing for Portugal in October. Came back for the 2nd half of the season, but never looked right and lost his place to Andre Almeida. Came into camp looking like his pre-injury self. Almeida had his nose broken in the preseason and Nelson has been the starter again since.

His defense is catching up to his offense. Much better in his own end this year vs his pre injury form last season.

My sense is that Griezmann really likes Spain, and that he really likes Simeone, so I think he is happy at Atletico.

That said, if Atletico has a bad year--say, fourth in La Liga (which is a possibility) or out of the top four, and does not make at least semi-finals in La Copa del Rey or Champions League--I could see Griezmann wanting to take the step to a bigger club.

I'm not sure Griezmann (a) views ManU as a bigger club and (b) would want to play a similar defensive-minded football under Mourinho after having to play Simeone's 100%-effort-both-ways football.

On Atletico's side, I don't think the team wants to sell given the transfer ban and given the move to the new stadium. Atletico, I imagine, wants to keep the team together for both reasons through the end of the 2017-8 season. After 2018 ends, though, all bets are off if (a) Simeone leaves, (b) Wanda, the team's Chinese backer, decides to tighten the purse strings, and (c) the debt accumulated for the new stadium becomes somewhat untenable.

AP reporting Tevez is getting $40m over two years
Hmm, seems to be a ton of debate on it: ESPN has 225,000 a week (pounds), BBC has 310,000, Mail, RT, Guardian, telegraph, Sky, and Xinhua all have 615,000 a week on a 2 year contract. FoxSports says it isn't clear which is true.

Sorry I didn't link the AP story, I saw the report on the ESPN crawl. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/soccer/2016/12/29/argentine-soccer-star-carlos-tevez-signs-40m-deal-in-china/95950646/
A person familiar with the negotiations said the 32-year-old Tevez would be paid $40 million over two years. The source spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to divulge details of the transaction.
Seems like BBC and AP agree, ESPNFC is somehow lower and different from the ESPN crawl*, and the others (some less reputable than others) are way out there. Whatever it is, it's a lot.

*Edit - I always forget that ESPNFC used to be old school Soccernet.com and still does some stuff separately from the mothership.

Payet has requested a transfer from West Ham.

Schneiderlin to Everton is official

Everton also loaned Cleverley to Watford with a buy option

Zaza loaned to Valencia with a €20m compulsory buy if they stay up

Payet thing is going to be a mess, simply because West Ham has zero need for money, and a huge need for Payet. A smart club should come in with a swap plus cash offer for him, it's the only thing West Ham should consider. I mean all summer West Ham had tons of money and couldn't land any top players despite trying to overpay significantly. 20M or whatever Marseilles offers does nothing for them. Honestly it could be 100M and it would probably still do nothing for them.

Just when you thought Chelsea was running away with the title...
He's under contract. Chelsea doesn't need to do anything. They can have him train with the reserves until his contract expires. He and his agent need to tread lightly. These deals can be made, but it's hard to force an Oligarch into doing anything he doesn't want to do.

Sure. But this still complicates Chelsea's title ambitions.

Sky Sports says a fee agreed and medical done, so Jose Fonte to West Ham should be announced soon. I like the move, he's good competition for Ogbonna and Reid, and it makes the center backs 4 deep with legit Premier League veterans. Also a big help for when they play 3/5 at the back.

Now just need a striker or two, a RB and maybe a holding MF.

I feel bad for Saints fans that this relationship went so sour. Fante, their captain, had been their rock in the long climb from the the third tier and the brink of financial implosion to being a Premier League team qualifying for Europe. It seemed different when Fonte was rumored to be off to ManU to unite with countryman Mourinho...heading to West Ham instead steels of a messy divorce between club and beloved player.

But as a Liverpool fan, I look forward to the Saints taking Sakho as a replacement.

Dortmund on the verge of buying 17yo swedish attacker Alexander Isak (swedish, german, english articles).

-comes over from AIK Solna for about 9mil.€
-scored 10goals in 24 league matches last season
-debuted as a 16yo in swedish first division
-scored his first goal (in 2nd match) for swedish national team
-also had some interest from Real: many articles said that he´s in Madrid to sign a contract for them (only 3-5 days ago that was the rumor)
-costs less than Dortmund will receive for Adrian Ramos, who will leave for China

--> consider that Aubameyang is still at the African Cup (could be back after the group stage in about a week; two draws for Gabun) and other attacker Adrian Ramos should leave soon. They play Schürrle as a lone striker today, they are still in the Champions League (winning the Group over Real), they are in a tough fight over CL spots and Europa League in the Bundesliga. They have a ton of attacking midfielders/wingers (Schürrle, Götze, Reus, Pulisic, Dembelé) who could play if Aubameyang isn´t available. It will be tough to play, if Aubameyang misses a few weeks. (Imagine an attacking midfield with Emre Mor/19, Ousmane Dembelé/19, Christian Pulisic/18 and striker Alex Isak/17.)

Markovic's loan at Sporting is over and he will spend the remainder of the season at Hull. From what I saw, he looked terrible and had no resemblance to the guy who left Benfica.

In today's market, that seems an absolute steal. I wonder if West Ham was unwilling to sell him in England...
25m+ for a player about to turn 30 isn't too bad, especially for someone as mercurial as Payet. It's a decent piece of business since they bought him from Marseille for 10.7m 18 months ago.

Wednesday completed their three year courtship of Jordan Rhodes at the deadline last night, getting him on loan until after the season then locking him up. With Hooper on the way back and Rhodes, hopefully they can begin matching their expected goals with, you know...actual goals.
