Par 70 course.

He missed 4 putts from within 15 feet and didn't hit any bombs except had one chip in for eagle. Appears to be fantastic iron play and just a solid day putting.

I followed him in length last year, he is a stud and I hope he has a great year.

Haha and an audible "Aww fuck" with his tee shot on 18

He seems to be safe in the fairway. Not Golf Channel's best work here.

It sounded like Johnny said the "Aw Fuck" but it was picked up by the course mics presumably from the player though now they are saying they aren't sure.

Edit:Yeah that tee shot didn't seem to warrant an Aw fuck.

He's got a reasonable looking chip.

I get my view view of Phil on the season, and as if on queue first shot he his is followed by him screaming "FORE"

Shooting 59 on a par 72 with no eagles is incredible. Just no mistakes.

Good for him.

Andy Brickley's potty mouth
Tiger officially signs with... Taylormade.

He's been using the clubs for a few months, so not completely surprised, but I don't think I would have believed it when Nike announced they were doing away with clubs.

The deal does not include the putter, however.

I guess he still has Nike irons in the bag for this week.

He's off tomorrow with DJ and Day at 1:40est in his first official PGA event since the '15 Wyndham. He's not really easing into things, he'll play 4 of the next 5 weeks. Torrey, Dubai, week off, Riviera, Honda. Guess we'll find out just how healthy he is in short order.

Great article. I really love my Scotty. Best investment I ever made. That may not say much about my financial acumen and retirement prospects, but if you have used a SC, you know.

Edit - I had posted this in the draft thread, but it fits better here.
I think Scotty Cameron's are overrated, to be honest. There are better feeling, better performing putters on the market.

For Tiger, it's all about comfort and familiarity, the name on the putter has nothing to do with it.

I think my bias toward Scotty's came from the fact it is the only putter I ever purchased that was built for my specific stroke (changed the weighting). It also didn't hurt that a good friend of mine used to be an assistant pro and got me the putter at a reasonable price.

So, all these 59s. Is it time to do the golf equivalent of raising the rim to 11 feet?

Reduce the compression of the balls? Change the clubs somehow? I know it would be hard to lengthen all the holes, but one 59 is a fluke. We've had 10 58s and 59s since 2010 between the PGA, Web.com and Champion's Tours.

That's 10 rounds out of hundreds of thousands tournament rounds. No need to change anything. It's far more rare than a perfect game in baseball. Just happened to get 3 in quick succession.

Anywho, great day for PGA Tour Live. Phil, Koepka, Fowler, Walker, Sneds, Rose...then some guy name Tiger with DJ and Day.

Always love watching pros hit shots that make you think, well heck I can do better than that.

Perfect conditions. Justin Rose 97 yards to the flag from the middle of the fairway. Pin is way back left, so the water is not in play at all. Rose leaves one 33 yards short not even reaching the green just barely avoiding the water. He did recover for his par

Strenge 3rd round as with the exception of Snedeker most of the 2 day leaders played poorly, so we have a whole bunch of new day 3 leaders. 23 guys within top 3 of the lead 33 guys within 5 strakes. So a whole lot of guys out there who could win this

Of course, this is when I what makes them so amazing. The chunk from the fairway was shocking. The up and down was really hard and really well done.

No, you can't hit those shots. Maybe under normal circumstances, but don't underestimate the pressure of tournament play. You'd fold like a lawn chair.

I'm sorry if you think i meant I could hit that ball within 10 feet, and set myself up for the birdie. Almost no way I could get the ball within 25 feet, and if I did, it would be absolutely luck

I meant that I could completely fail under the same situation and hit a ball I was trying to hit 97 yards 64 yards. only difference is I probably would have managed to find the water as well

More likely I would actually hit the ball about 120 yards, put the shot back down the hill in the water and end up with 9

So I enjoy it when they bleep a shot up like a normal human would

He's such a big draw that they haven't shown him and are now actively cutting away from him. I get why they did it, but don't insult people's intelligence.

T25, five back.
We get it, you hate him. You tell us that every year. But using his popularity to market the tournament, especially given who missed the cut, makes sense.

Tiger throws up a 77 in Dubai today, and according to ESPN guys he played the first handful of holes looking limited by back, walking gingerly, etc. Supposedly moved better as the round went on, and Tiger said there was no back issue.

That can't be right, I think it is 11pm there?

I watched his first 3 holes last night. His opening tee shot was a really bad pull hook. He grimaced, but it was hard to tell if the grimace was because the swing hurt or it was just an awful shot. He then ended up in a deep green side bunker and looked very tentative climbing down to his ball. I don't know, maybe he just had a hard time getting loose. His demeanor / body language from the little bit I saw last night was definitely different than his other rounds at the Hero and Torrey. It's his first back-to-back in 2 years though, so he's probably a bit nervous on how his back will respond. It probably doesn't help that he flew halfway across the world too.

He hit 10 of 12 fairways after missing the first 2, so game wise that seems to be a positive. He had 33 official putts, plus others from the fringe, which is where things really went wrong. I don't think the scores really matter for him now though. He's just got to get the reps in.
