Josh likely has one shot left, and I hope he selects his new spot with care. Too bad the Giants gig seems to be going in another direction. Indy is unstable.

He begged to be fired in Denver. He was in way over his head, and one didn’t have to look far beyond the Tim Tebow LSD to figure that out. Bowlen giving him the keys to the whole operation might have been an indication of Alzheimer’s onset.

This is starting to feel like 2004 when Weis and Romeo left. The last run with this current crew.
I know the is the HC thread but I was watching the Felger pregame show yesterday and Weiss said he would be open to returning to the league as a coordinator and that he had received calls. Felger asked specifically about the Pats job and Weiss, understandably, didn't want to go there but said he had great respect for the organization.
If you've seen Charlie lately I think it would be fair to wonder if there is any way in hell he could survive being a coach in the league at this point. I could see him as some kind of adviser but not as the guy.

Saw that too. I'd probably prefer to stay in house with O'Shea, but I wouldn't hate a Weis return.

Well, it's not like the Browns are going to win anything next year, either. Might as well let him keep the seat warm for another year and then see.
They have two top five draft picks instead of their usually one. A new coach may want to help select those picks.

NFLN {Gumbel} says Gruden is a done deal around $10 M per year--owners will not approve a coach getting ownership, so per Judy Battista Mark Davis will also give him a "tracking stock" to benefit from appreciation of franchise value.

Interested to hear how they got around the Rooney rule on this hire.

Gruden is supposed to call the Chief's game this week, I'm sure their coaches will be thrilled to sit down and talk to him about the game plan.

Always amusing to see references to the "blueblood" Maras and Rooneys-- Tim Mara started as a "runner" for Arnold Rothstein's gambling operation and rose to being a prominent bookie himself. As the mob fixed races he gave tips to his buddy Art Rooney at Saratoga and Belmont and Rooney proved such an astute judge of horseflesh he needed trucks to ship his cash winnings back to his saloon in Pittsburgh Charles Bidwell was a bootlegger in Chicago with Capone and financed the Cardinals and the Bears, for Halas. High-class people.

though I think the Pats are better prepared to handle the loss of two coaches this year... Hasn't BB been grooming successors (given the fact that Patriot coaches have been interviewing for HC jobs for the past 3 years?)

Amazing that Gruden’s last game in Oakland was The Tuck game, a lifetime ago. And if he’s back next year, Janikowski will have played for him twice.

Cutting Janikowski is the first move I would make if were the Raiders. He is not needed there anymore.

So.........Cabinet positions?

Always fun to check out other teams forums and media sites: it's inconceivable to them that another team's coordinator might actually turn down their HC job.

Various reports have McDaniels the leading candidate for Giants, Colts, Bears, and Lions. Which is the best? Indy has Luck but Irsay, Detroit has Stafford and Martha seems OK, Manning situation a mess, Trubisky the real deal? Lombardi says all the suitors have to schedule interview slots in Foxboro Saturday. Coaching staff a little distracted?

Patricia also tied to Detroit. Since Bob Quinn is there I would bet that one of the two ends up there. Just not sure which. I doubt Josh likes Trubisky but I may be wrong and that D has some pieces in place.

Cardinals submitted requests to interview Patriots’ DC Matt Patricia and Patriots’ LB coach Brian Flores, per source - two levels of New England defensive coaches.

Two good points from Curran

1. Ben McDaniels - Josh’s brother - is already on the staff in Chicago
2. If Detroit wants to keep Jim Bob Cooter, then that probably doesn’t appeal to Josh - which might make Matty P a better fit

Here
If Patricia goes, it would be interesting to see if BB chooses to give D coordinator to his kid. I think it goes Flores and then Steve, but Belichick skipped over Pepper Johnson for Patricia a while back so you never know. I have no idea who he’d choose for OC if/when McDaniels goes.

I will predict Josh to NYG and Patricia to Detroit.

What a fantastic post. I knew none of this.

Regardless, whatever the Maras may have been 100 years ago, between Wellington and John they now carry themselves as very different people from the working-class likes of Matt Patricia.

Matty P should find himself an owner who's self-made, and can view things pragmatically, rather than someone who inherited the team and has spent their entire life having their ass kissed, and views PR first and winning second.

Say what you will about Mike Brown, he's at least a legendary coach's son and appreciates the value of stability. That might be my pick for Patricia or McDaniels, if they indeed don't bring Marvin Lewis back.

Saw that too. I'd probably prefer to stay in house with O'Shea, but I wouldn't hate a Weis return.
What had Weis done since leaving the Pats in 2004 that makes you comfortable with his return? The NFL offense is drastically different, for starters.

I'd stay clear of Weis. I'd have no problem with a Crennel return however.

I wouldn’t be surprised if McDaniels or Patricia had a job for SB if they go. Might not be the worse thing for him to get out from the old man’s shadow.

Packers GM Thompson being reassigned, team will find replacement. Have to think that this might come with an eventual McCarthy firing.

If you were Nick Caserio wouldn't you find it pretty hard to turn down a very unique situation in Green Bay? They may well want someone who is more of an overall executive (and perhaps more experience) given the role, but he's likely on the list somewhere.

They have a handful of in-house candidates that they will seriously consider.

Agreed, and Eliot Wolf probably gets the gig. But if they truly want to look outside, I'd expect Caserio to be on the list.

Hard to know what the Packers might be thinking, since it's a unique organization and situation. Mark Murphy is the current President, and he's been there since 2007, so no particular reason to think they won't just stay in house in the end. Just noting it's a very unique situation if they do call.

I wonder if any of the Thompson trained GMs around the league are potential candidates if they don't go with Elliot Wolf.

Thompson has wasted several of Rodgers peak years by refusing to add playmakers in free agency. It was time.

Who has a better pair of receivers than Jordy and DeVante Adams? Their RBs were clearly fine, and they added Bennet this year to replace Jerrod Cook at the behest of Rogers.

They got bit by the injury bug, with Rogers, both receivers and Bennett getting hurt for much of the year.

If they don't fuck up that on side kick in Seattle they win a second title in the Thompson era and there is nothing to complain about.
