I dont understand this trade at all. 2019 2 and a 4? that seems shitty.
Why? Aren't they trading a later 2nd round pick this year for a probable early 2nd round pick next year (based on how crappy the Bars were this year) - which alone is a good trade - PLUS a 4th this year

Duke Dawson (CB) from Florida it is. 5'10 runs a 4.4. NFL.com labels him as a slot corner.

That seems like too much to move up for Duke. And probably the end of the Lauletta dream.

Fun fact: Only Brandon Spikes has more career pick 6s than Duke in Gator history.

So 43 for next year's Chicago 2 and 105. I think. Not sure I see a lot of value in that outside of Bill not liking anyone in this part of the draft

So they dropped down gambling that 1 of 3 corners they liked would be there? And when 2 went right away they gave the addt'l pick back and their only 'profit' is the difference between this years 2nd versus Bears 2nd next year?

Dawson’s a good player. Just didn’t think they would take him. Dude is a gamer.

This is one of the most enjoyable threads, year after year. It’s amazing how the Patriots have been really fucking good for nearly 20 years with as shitty as they apparently draft.

I’m sure this year you guys are all correct.

I am fine with this. They are essentially replacing FA losses. This one plays defense.

Too much? They’ll be picking at a better spot than this next year AND got a 4th.
I'm fine with that trade. I was talking about the trade up. No reason to combine them when considering the merits of this trade.

With the obvious caveat that linebacker remains a gaping hole going into day 3, this is about as close as we’ve ever seen them draft for need

In other news, what the fuck is going on with Derrius Guice? Anyone know what is causing him to plummet? Mayock says there is something major about to break on him?

Edit- rumblings it may be about him being gay. Sigh.

On the NFL Network, the moment Goddell, Branch and Warren walked on stage to announce the Pats pick at 56, the sound slowed to a crawl, like playing a 45 at 33 1/3. Everyone involved sounded like they were sprung from a sitcom version of an acid trip. It was gloriously weird.

I don't get it with Dawson. I'm having a hard time figuring out what he does well.

I love you Deion, but that's positively un-Patriotlike.

Like the Duke pick. Will go more into it in the thread proper, but I like how he gets good jam at the LOS, and good at point of catch/batting the ball away. That's something we really needed last year. Not sure on his ability to play zone, man and press in particular are his game.

AND they get the Bears 2 next year.

Crikey, people.
No. The Bears second was for giving up the Patriots’ second this year.

The Patriots has TWO second rounders this year. They shipped one away, and they used the other. Their true net, after everything, is a late fourth rounder and a small move up in the second round in exchange for delaying a second rounder for a year.

BB is tanking for what he hopes is Brady's last year.

SUCK FOR (hopefully a QB that rhymes with Suck).

Right, but you made it sound like they weren’t getting the Bears pick at all.
