My interpretation was that he was saying “do what your boss tells you without putting thought into it”. Which probably isn’t a fair interpretation.

Regardless, I’m not defending him. Just say I understand why he would say it. What he said makes complete sense to me. Now I don’t want him on the Pats but I’m not going to pretend he’s an affront to humanity and the game of football (hyperbole, I know).

Hyperbole aside I’m not sure why you’d be ok with a player refusing an assignment because of his precious heart. Yes they’re people but he’s an adult (one with a pretty shitty track record btw) and he makes a lot of money. Do your job is about not* being selfish and performing your role; it’s about understanding it’s bigger than your own thin skin. Bitching about it doesn’t help anything.

Quite frankly, it is an affront to the sport. To all sports.

Sports is about competition. Hes basically saying he doesnt get paid enough to get embarrassed by Brown. That's a bullshit mentality on so many levels. As a teammate, as a competitor, as someone making 7 million dollars to play a game...

No. It really is an affront to the game of football. Have some fucking pride and give a shit.

Huh? So, when your boss tells you to do something you decide how much effort to put in based on your emotions and feelings? Or do you just flat out refuse and expect to still be employed?
i'm sure his take would be..... if you want me to do the job of a #1 CB, pay me like a #1 CB, don't expect to pay me for one job, then ask me to do another. He'd say that if your boss came to you and asked you to do something that isn't part of your job, and is fact something that usually is part of a much higher paid job, you'd be pissed too.

Overall it's still shitty, but the "paid to play a game" thing is nonsense, he's paid to sacrifice his short and long term health over a short career to make other people many many times what he does. The kind of bullshit, players should suck it up and do whatever they are told because they are "lucky" that the owners exploit their health for profit thinking is garbage.

And I’d tell him he agreed to his contract and to stfu and do what you’re asked to for the good of the team. I assure you I do plenty of shit that isn’t my assigned job and I do it. I may not be happy about it but I do it because it’s best for everyone. And I don’t make $7M.

I don’t even get this. Beyond the ‘do your job’ how about some a level of competition? He should be fighting for that matchup instead of complaining about his game check for who he covered. He’s either selfish or doesn’t have the confidence a competitor should.

why? If my boss asks me to do the job of someone who makes twice what I do and says... "you should be fighting for the opportunity to do more work for less money", my answer is going to be.... pay me more and we'll talk.

You're on a rant about football, so it's clear you're not interested in speaking about this rationally. On no planet do CBs just cover one guy or another based upon their salaries. It's ridiculous.

Covering Brown isn’t more dangerous to his health than any other receiver and in every job the people you’re working for make more money than you. Plus, almost every job eventually asks you to do more than you’re technically supposed to do.

James Conner made 600k this year. Le'Von Bell was supposed to make 14 million. When Bell sat out, should Connor have been like, "No way man, EAD, I'm not carrying a single ball unless my salary is upped to 14 million. Pay me #1 running back money or no dice."

Your argument is flawed.

Payrolls are going to skyrocket if everyone who pitches against Bryce Harper this year applies this logic.

And wouldn't some people be insulted if they were asked to do LESS than their status/salary suggested?

I kind of doubt he'd be cool being benched or playing dime corner/specials.

Round and round.

This isn’t ‘take on this huge task/account/project that the ceo normally handles’. This was cover a dude for a cpl hours. Jesus man, really? I do shit daily that isn’t my job or is above my pay grade. I make deliveries, I do reports, I travel outside my district at my own expense to cover other peoples accounts...I don’t tell my boss ‘sure but I need x amount more’. I do it because it helps my company.

He’s a 35 yo corner making $7M what does he have to complain about? If they asked LeBron to defend Steph Curry, you think he’d say ‘nah that’s Lonzo’s job, you don’t pay me enough’?

You must make an awesome employee/coworker/teammate.

Depends on why you play the game. Not everyone loves playing it but they love the money so would prefer a lesser challenge and easier day than covering AB. Especially when you’re 35 and grossed $50 million or whatever.

Should this happen in other sports?

"Hey, I don't really feel like pinch hitting here, that closer makes $14M a year and I'm on league minimum."

Who cares? I guarantee you it does but goes unsaid by the sandbagger.
Evidently, a lot of people care. And if it happens, it's likely very rare. You don't make it to the top of the professional sports heap by saying, "That's something I can't do."

The who cares is regarding the “should this happen” which is an irrelevant question. The relevant question is “does this happen”.

I don’t view this much differently than a guy signing a big deal and showing up to training camp 20 lbs overweight. One is just quieter.

Reid posted on social media following Sunday's loss to the New Orleans Saints that he had his seventh random test since signing with the Panthers in late September. He put "random'' in quotes.
Reid continues to suggest the NFL is targeting him because of his collusion grievance against the league.

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/25582707/ron-rivera-says-eric-reid-play-lottery-due-frequency-random-drug-tests
Came here to see if anyone was discussing the fact the nfl and nflpa disagree with Reid and agree that he was not targeted. Saying he exaggerated the numbers.

I wonder where they keep the "12-13" Manning playoff record flag
9-10 in Indy actually.

My favorite Manning stat is that he went 1 and done 9 times in his 15 trips to the playoffs, or 60%. Brady has gone 1 and done twice in his 15 playoff appearances.

14-13 career record.

27-10 for Brady. Not even in the same stratosphere.

Since Murray is declaring for the draft and Kingsbury owns the #1 pick, I wonder if Rosen is available. I didn’t watch any Cardinals games this year, but his numbers sucked.

Would he be worth a 2nd rd pick for a team that’s needs a QB? Would the Cards do it?

If the Cardinals are planning on drafting Murray, they'd be crazy to keep Rosen too. I'm sure he could still fetch a pretty decent haul. And if I'm the Patriots...I actually consider dealing for him if he's available.

Did anyone watch him last year? Because some of his stat lines were doozies, like 12/23 for 87 yards, 21/39 for 194 w/ 1 TD and 3 INTs, and 21/39 for 208 w/ 1 TD and 2 INTs. I know the Cardinals were a tire fire last year but not sure if that was the cause of his suckitude or just general suckitude on Rosen's part.

I watched him a decent amount because of fantasy interests (not him, of course) and don’t think you can really take much from Year 1. The OL was a dumpster fire and the play calling left a lot to be desired. On the whole, I wasn’t terribly impressed but I just don’t think he had any chance of succeeding. That Denver game was especially troubling to watch. The Broncos were just teeing off on him all game.

Thanks - I was curious about this too when the Murray story started percolating. You'd certainly be buying low on a QB picked top 10 just last year. If BB thinks highly of Rosen at all, now could be a great time to strike and park him behind Brady for a couple of years, Jimmy G redux. Since it appears BB was interested in Mayfield and there wasn't any leak on Rosen, it'd be surprising if he made a move. The timing would be right though - out of conference and the Pats holding a bunch of picks.

Of course none of that is worse than anything Jared Goff did in 2016.

It is with great sadness that I report that Stephon Gilmore and Thomas Edward Brady will not be joining the AFC in Orlando for the Pro Bowl.

Will they interview Tony Romo for the gig? He certainly seemed to have a better sense than Sutton of what was coming.

It's hard to feel good about Sutton's performance...and thus, it's hard as a Pats fan to feel good about them upgrading. Would Reid really want to deal with Sexy Rexy in that role---he'd doubtless be trying to get a leg up on the head coaching gig.
