With the revised signing period moved up from early January to December 20-22, I thought it is a good time to go ahead and start off the 2018 thread.

Interestingly, it appears most coaches are approaching the revised signing with similar expectations: to sign every verbal commitment during the early period.

On the recruiting trail for the Lions. (You can scroll within the table)

In top recruiting news, Ricky Slade was named Virginia’s Gatorade Player of the Year.

And in other news, the Blue-White Game has been set for Saturday, April 21.

Lions receive late re-commitment and signing from Micah Parsons, a 5-star WDE, ranked #4 player in the nation. Parsons joins Penn State's 2 other 5-stars: WR Justin Shorter and APB Ricky Slade.

Parsons had previously committed and then de-committed with the Lions. And it looked like Ohio State was making a strong late run. But recently some clouds rose. Reports surfaced Tuesday that Ohio State self-reported a recruiting violation involving a picture Parsons took with ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit and former Ohio State running back Eddie George on the set of ESPN's College GameDay. Parson's father disputes that, saying he believes Ohio State ended its recruitment of his son because of a tweet Micah sent at 11:38 p.m. after the Oklahoma game, in which he said he would consider making a quarterback change from J.T. Barrett to Dwayne Haskins.

In any case, it's a great get.

And they also receive an unexpected flip from 4-star WR Jahan Dotson, who had previously been committed to UCLA since September.

Lions receive commitment from Jason Oweh (in table above) at UA All-American game last night. lost out on Tyreke Smith, who signed on with the Tree Nuts. Penn State remains in the mix for Rasheed Walker and Solomon Enos, both of whom remain uncommitted. 247Sports' crystal ball sets the odds at 94% and 100%, respectively. for each to commit to PSU.

Alas, Enis was pulled closer to home and signed with Utah. But the Lions still come out strong at the WR position, with 5* Justin Shorter, and 4*s Jahon Dotson and Daniel George.

But the Lions did manage to reel in 4* OT Rasheed Walker.

Shorter will have immediate impact, according to all reports, in McSorley's final year.
Nice to get Walker, whom the Buckeyes coveted. They landed the No. 1 tackle in the country yesterday -- Nicholas Petit-Frere.
Nits' overall 2018 class ranked fourth in country by ESPN. Buckeyes second. These are heady times for Penn State football.

A BIG decision is out of the way for 2018: backup QB Tommy Stevens will not transfer.

On Wednesday, Stevens announced that he will remain at Penn State rather than seek a transfer, lifting a sizable weight off the team during spring practice. Stevens, a versatile 6-5 redshirt junior, and starter Trace McSorley [arguably] give the Lions the best 2018 quarterback combination in the Big Ten.
