Figure we might as well have a game thread for the weekend festivities. The "Rising Stars" World vs. USA game is about to start. Ben Simmons, Luka Doncic, etc. Kyrie is coaching the US team.

Tatum got the biggest ovation of anyone from what I could tell.

If his first shot is the fall-away one footer from about 19 feet I will die.

Every year the World Team gets better and better. I think I’d take them over the US team if I was building a franchise; US has more depth but the frontline talent on the world team is really good.

If there's absolutely no defense this isn't even interesting. This is like 5 levels below all-star game defense.

Who are the announcers? Simmons scored his 4th point and the dude was all "HE CAN SMELL THE MVP!"

I mean, that guy drove the lane and the 2 defenders stepped out of the way. This is losing my interest fast.

Kyrie is working the refs more in this first quarter than Brad has all season. /baiting

If these 2 teams were actual nba teams, what do people think their records would be after 82 games?

no. Skill wise. Although a lot of these guys don't play defense yet in real games either.
This is true. I think these teams are each probably sub-500 squads for that reason alone. Also, a lot of these guys have glaring holes in their otherwise amazing games.

For those who haven't seen it, the Ringer did a midterm report on Luka which is really well done but mentions his lack of defense and inability to finish around the rim. A lot of these guys, including Tatum, just need to figure it out and it takes time.

Even though he got bounced, Luka gets this challenge more than the others. A halfcourt three FTW is the only way to win in style.

tatum winning was cool but the skills comp is so dumb, nothing but the last shot matters

To be fair, Tatum had to take the high-difficulty half-court shot because he was way behind in the earlier part. It's obviously dumb, but there's a certain logic to it.

Ray Allen shooting threes looked like vintage Ray from the Playoffs a while back...

You have the chance of making the shot or also knocking the other guy's shot out.

old guys went 6/25 I think, that went about as well as planned as when they staged that half court shootout a couple years ago for Steph and then he bricked every shot

Tatum has star power. Not a bad consolation prize having to root for him for the next decade if he's not traded for Davis.

The economy of movement in the shots of these great shooters is so much more noticeable in a contest like this.

next year cut a half hour off this thing and cut out all the filler if they can't come up with any good comps
