Could have had more years of that NFL paycheck with more tread.
He was a 4th round pick after being a Heisman finalist, which doesn't speak well to his projected NFL skills. Where do you think he would have been picked if he had been utilized less? Would he have been picked at all? What makes you think tread was his issue?

Would it surprise anyone if Dillon opted out of the bowl game? Oddly enough, he could use Daz getting gassed as the reason; but in actuality Daz ran him into the ground.

He shouldn't play, and if anyone at BC tries to convince him to stay for another year they are giving almost criminally bad advice to the kid.

He may not be a high draft pick, but there is nothing he can prove next year that is going to dramatically change his draft status, and taking another 6-800 hits for free just makes no sense. Great player, he carried the team on his back for 3 years, and should go out and get paid to take whatever hits he has left in his career

after Pitt i was scared, I mean really fucking scared that Daz would be back and all of our hopes would be dashed, I've been on a twitter message thread with about 20 other fans and a couple of parents of players and some of these people are very well connected. One of the connected said Daz was told before ND he was done, and I also heard that from a media member i know. Another of the connected said that they heard on Sunday that he'd be back.

then my phone started blowing up, it came together and it was beautiful and Coach Thinskin was no more.

I can give you some details on the fight, that I'd held back. in the special teams meeting on Thurs before ND Frank Leonard, asst HC (qualifcations? Addazio's teammate at Central Conn State) started shitting on Max Richardson, one of the few guys on D who knows how to tackle. DB Coach Lewis (former NFL HC Sherm Lewis' kid) told Leonard to shut the fuck up and punches were thrown, players broke it up. Adazio's caddy shitting on the players, add that up with what we've heard from former players the last few days and you can see what a shit show it was in there.

That win at Pitt was all on the kids, especially AJ carring the rock at the end.

Bajakian like the other OC's before him had his balls cut off by the micromanager, he'd call passing plays only to be over ruled into another dive off tackle by AJ or Bailey. Daz told recruits year after year that he was going to open up the offense and when game time came he'd revert to Woody Hayes 2.0

even with the Pats loss, it was a great Sunday, better days await!!!

Looks like BC-Cincinnati in the Birmingham Bowl per Brett McMurphy.
Will be interesting to see how Cincy approaches this. They get the absolute shaft in the process, legit top 25 all year and get sent to a shit bowl, to play a shit opponent . It will be interesting to see if Fickell can get his team to show up and play their best. Then again, maybe they will be angry, and play to kill.

If he's a transfer and not a grad student, will have to sit a year out; which might be smart as it will let him get healthy.

Don't trust Blauds for anything. He's been out of the loop since Gene departed. Unless there is a mystery candidate (Chris Peterson?) it should be Hafley or bust.

I think that MJ had one guy in mind and no real plan B. He swung and fouled it off. Be it $$, length of deal, buy out or that his guy wasn’t really “his guy”. Whatever the reason, it didn’t work so now he trying to find a coach on the fly.

he knew Daz was gone at the ND game. Yet rather than quietly casting a big net (Daz was lobbying for jobs the Monday of Pitt week and landed Colorado State yesterday) MJ zeroed in on one guy. Couldn’t land him or hit resistance and now needs to make a hire Fast.

The more I see of him the more he looks like a self promoting empty suit. Very underwhelmed with him.

I’ll reserve judgment until we see the result. Getting this hire right is well worth sacrificing one recruiting season.

Very surprised that Daz landed on his feet so quickly after the Keyes story, which I found to be highly credible. I hope (and expect) that my son won’t be in a position to play FBS ball, but if he were, I’d warn him away from Addazio based on that story.

You're making a lot of guesses to land on crucifying a guy. Have some patience.

Bernie and I were texting about this earlier, but a big win for us is the joy we are going to have watching those MWC night games featuring CSU! It’s WACtion! Daz isn’t gonna know what to do out there. Wait till the CSU fans see his Throw Game

Help me get excited about this. I was hoping for an offensive-minded coach with a recruiting network and at least some local ties, such that he wouldn’t necessarily bolt for his first better offer if he has some early success. This hire seems to tick none of those boxes.

And who was that unicorn?

This is a quality guy with a great pedigree and a Northeast background. It may or may not work out, but this is a good hire. If he kills it and leaves in three years - awesome. The last time BC had a guy like that he was Tom Coughlin and I'd relive his time here anytime.

He is from the northeast, is a young charismatic guy, one of the best recruiters in the country (I believe 247 has him as the #3 in the country), and he was considered an elite recruiter before he jumped to the NFL, so it wasn't just him having the allure of OSU.

He's apparently bringing Al Washington to be the defensive coordinator, so there is your head coach in waiting when Hafley is inevitably snatched up by a top program or an NFL team. If and when he does get a bigger job, it likely means he did a damn good job here. It's an absolute fantastic hire, even if it's not a long term thing.

Thanks. Good to know his rep as a strong recruiter isn’t just based on his brief stint at tOSU. And I somehow missed his regional ties. He’ll need a strong OC to do Xs and Os, but I guess that would be true of anyone.

I liked the OC at Oregon, but his West Coast connections probably wouldn’t have served him as well here as they will at UNLV.

I’m good with the hire

He's got the Schiano experience without the baggage. Coached Harmon and Logan Ryan at Rutgers (and spent time with GS also at TB). Secondary is his specialty. Hopefully he brings in a great OC.

Frank Cignetti, former QB coach in Green Bay rumored to be joining as OC
What was he doing this year?

He's only the 3rd best football mind in his own family though. (Pops is in the CF HOF and brother recruited Donta, Julio Jones, Ingram Jr, at Bama, and Russ at NC State)

He had a fantastic rep as a NE recruiter when at Pitt and Schiano was able to pull him away.

Also, the word in all the stories is that he got BC to pony up on the assistant coach side. That will be huge.

you guys know me, I'm old, I go back to when Yukica came down from UNH in the late 60s and this is the first time I can remember that we've gotten our 1st choice EVER. Jarmond used his tOSU connections, Day having been here twice was able too help Halfey with his demands, Fish and trustees ponied up more $, Leahy was basicly kept out of it until the end, and I think that Dazooo joining CSU freed up more money to go to asst's.

I'd heard last weekend that it was all but done, but as time dragged on I was getting a little scared, I think the delay in the end was not to over shadow Frates' funeral (if you didn't see it, Ronan tynan, Fr Tony and Pete's dad killed it).

rumor is Big Al Washington coming as DC, like Stape said above me, Halfey's rep as a recruiter is unsurpassed,

Today is the first day of the rest of our lives... and its going to be a good one

Agreed. Given BC's current abysmal standing in the ACC they punched well above their weight with this hire and actually appear to being on the right track for the first time in a long time. Very optimistic with this direction.

What the heck are you talking about?

Halfry is a great hire. As others have mentioned, he is a great recruiter with Northeast connections. He has worked with Schiano at a number of places and is seen as a great coordinator. He is also bringing Al Washington with him. Washington could naturally take over in a couple of years when Halfry leaves.
In my opinion, I think Halfry was Jarmons first choice all along. Who was this mystery choice that Jarmon whiffed on? I'd be anxious to find out.

I like it . Now if Comcast budges on the ACC Network I might see Hafly coach next fall.

Hafley and MJ saying all the right things in Pressser
I know that all pressers sounds good but this one just felt different for BC. Jarmond reaching out to Hasselbeck, talking about his relationships with OSU. Hafley talking about his appreciation for Wandtstead and thoughtfulness.

At this point my most pressing question is what offense will he run. He mentioned Chip Kelly and Day and Shanahan so that gives us a clue.

I agree with Scarlet Fire, Dave and Moose. It sounds different. But I also agree that we probably should take a wait and see a bit on this. I am hopeful that the program is turning a corner but we will have to see what kind of offense he runs (does he have the guys to run a spread at this point? I'm thinking maybe not and he will have to install that over time, assuming he goes the Chip Kelly route), how the community responds to him long term and if he can get the program over the hump on a consistent basis. Next year's schedule is very manageable with non league games of Ohio U, Holy Cross ,Purdue along with UNC all at Alumni, and Kansas on the road. You would like to think 8-9 wins are possible but bear in mind he doesn't have a QB, his defense is questionable at best and although David Bailey is very good, he is not AJ Dillon. I believe there are 6 starters coming back on offense and the D is intact (although it was probably the worst D in modern BC history). He certainly will coach that up but its not going from #120 to #5 in one year.

Time will tell and I hope it works out. The key will be his staff and how much the team buys into his philosophy. It does look and feel different. We can only hope it translates to on field performance and assuming he is successful, he sticks around for a while.

Below is the link to an article in The Athletic about the search and hire of Jeff Hafley. Hope it can open for you. Interesting. Enjoy.

BC's schedule is always manageable because they don't schedule anyone decent out of conference and the ACC has been blah outside of Clemson for years.

He's either really good or it's a case of anyone would look good next to the dumpster fire that's been allowed to smolder there for way too long. Time will tell.
