For the first time in a long while, this one is on the refs.

Blew two calls that wiped out TDs. It would have most likely taken the game into OT with all the momentum on the Pats' side.

Onto Cincinnati.

Looked like they may have found something on offense in the 2nd half. Given it shouldn't change anything in the standings - I'm walking away from this one with positives. The defense looked great against a very good offense. The offense may have turned a corner. They have a scrimmage next week to test out their potential changes and the team is going to be united with a massive chip on their shoulder after this one.

Plus Harry did something positive.

They played really crappy, but the refs shit the bed.

I bet Sean Payton is texting BB right now.

Unless Baltimore loses, this hopefully won't mean anything. Gonna have to beat KC and Baltimore in January.

Brady played his ass off in this. Loved seeing Harry show up on (what should have been) the biggest play of the game. Three points to the Chiefs in the second half.

The fight in this team is amazing.

The problems are still the problems but the team has fought hard in every loss and is 3-3 against current playoff teams. Bring them back here in January.

Newhouse (generally shitty play, compounded by allowing the game-changing FG block)

Meyers. Had a decent amount of targets and didn't make anything happen aside from that trick play from White.

Offensive line is absolutely terrible.

Newhouse for allowing the blocked FG.

And the reason why Bill lost a challenge was due to the awful 3rd down call that clearly looked like Kansas did not cross the 1st down line.

1) The referee who called Harry out of bounds without seeing him step out, nullifying a TD that the Pats were unable to challenge.

2) The referee who blew the play dead and called Kelce’s fumble down by contact, forcing the Pats to have to settle for taking possession around midfield instead of a defensive touchdown.

3) The referee who seems to think that a bear hug is not pass interference When it is against a Pats WR.

Kick blocking.

Chiefs were fucking SHOOK in the 4th, they will not win in Foxboro if they play in the playoffs.

Exactly how I feel. Run the table, secure the bye and let's see how we do with our second chance against the AFC elite.

As a non-Pats fan who loves to see NE lose, this game was, without a doubt, ruined by the referees. It’s the rarity nowadays to see a play involving a fumble whistled dead. It’s understandable on rare occasion, but this wasn’t one of those circumstances. And that was just the tip of the iceberg. Absolutely embarrassing display by the zebras, ruining what could have been the most entertaining game of the night.

Loss sucks but this feels better than the Dallas win. Am I off in thinking this may be a turning point in the season?
Completely agree. Team proved to themselves that they can make a great comeback against a Super Bowl team. Patriots dominated the 2nd half.

They have three easy games to end the season, but the loss means they have no chance to catch Baltimore.

And there was blatant OPI on the play with Kelce literally backing up in to Gilmore.

That may have been the worst refereed game I’ve ever seen. There were a couple bad calls against the Chiefs but so many huge ones were against the Pats it absolutely made the difference in the game.

If we are talking players then yeah the line is still a problem on both offense and obviously the kicking game.

The offense still wasn’t all that inspiring. They got 7 on a short field following the blocked punt, then the 7 on the Harry non-TD, but still sputtered around and needed trick plays the gain chunk yardage. Their inability to run against a weak run defense is alarming.

I don't get the love for wide receivers that can't catch the ball. And Harry hurt again at the end of the game? Christ. I am going to hope that Dorsett and Sanu aren't healthy and that's the reason they have not been good.

Jakobi Meyers finished second on the team in receiving yards today. His only catch was on the HB pass from White. KC entered the game with the 25th ranked yardage defense and the Patriots gained 278 yards. The offense is an absolute joke right now. Bottom-10 unit, and that might be giving them too much credit. Our first round pick this year had one catch, our first round pick last year had 8 rush yards on 5 carries.

JJ was horrible but cleaned it up in the 2nd half... but he deserves a goat
have to put Meyers for dropping a lot of balls
refs an honorable mention... but we put ourselves into a 16(!) point hole at home, this shit can happen.

overall the defense giving up 23 to KC sounds about right. so it's disappointing the offense's only TD was on a short field, ref bullshit aside. I don't know what they're going to do.

Refs: 2 officials consulted before calling Henry OOB and they both got it horribly wrong.
O Line. On any play where Brady had legit time to go through his progressions he was Tom Brady. Otherwise it was duck and cover.

Second half:
KC: 31 plays, 97 yards, 3 points
NE: 29 plays, 155 yards, 9 points

KC's last five possessions
3 plays, -4 yards, blocked punt
8 plays, 28 yards, fumble
3 plays, 15 yards, punt
3 plays, 9 yards, punt
3 plays, -3 yards, game
TOT: 20 plays, 45 yards, 3 points

The defense really stepped up huge. The offense definitely did better the second half. They literally got screwed out of a touchdown. They missed a field goal (first half). They had two possessions end in failed fourth down conversions.

This team is CLOSE. They're not there. They're not what we're used to seeing. But they're CLOSE to winning these games.

Screw the goats today.

If they win out, this game will have been mostly meaningless. They fought. The defense played hard.

They got screwed. Use it. This team needed a spark. Maybe this was the spark.

oh yeah, Newhouse/Cannon for that FG block deserves a mention. on replay it seemed like a miscommunication where both leaned the other way and neither picked up the guy who just goes basically untouched through them.

when the Pats lose at home it's often a kooky special teams blunder like that, very rare

I'd like to think the terrible officiating in the second half was karma for the fans who booed a 10-2 team and the reigning Super Bowl champions off the field at halftime. (Not to mention the clusterfork of ridiculousness in the game thread during the first half...)
You’re tsk tsking Patriot fans is beyond obnoxious.

The refs and the Oline for being a sieve most of the game. Question of clarification, on the challenge of OPI and the 1st down spot, they clearly got the spot wrong, if they move the ball back to the 39, even if it is still a 1st down they win that challenge correct? Thus allowing them to challenge the Harry TD?

Zebras, of course, but I don’t want Jonathan Jones‘ terrible play in the first half to go unmentioned. He’s one of my favorite players, but damn, really in a slump. Maybe hurt?

And Meyers would really be a whole bunch better if he could catch the ball. Reminds me of Gary Sanchez... it’s a pretty important part of the job description.

Is this supposed to be a point in favor of some argument about why the Patriots lost?

We still didn't see anything from the offense to indicate that they can contend for a title.

The officials were ridiculous. The defense came up huge in the second half. But the offense still isnt good enough to beat good teams.

It all depends on how they do the rest of the way. (Captain Obvious statement there) But I really feel like they're RIGHT THERE. Clean up a couple of things, don't get F-cked over by the refs (today was just..mind boggling), and they've got a chance against anybody.

I think clearly they're not the best team in the NFL right now. Clearly. But they're very capable of beating anyone, even Baltimore.

I don’t agree but I sure as hell see your point. I bailed out of the game thread because the crap that gets spewed in there is so over the top and the booing of this team is inexcusable.

I think on a spot challenge you only “win” if the 1st down call is overturned, if the spot moves but it’s still a first down then you lose.

This.

The refs were awful but the offense was total crap again. Not only was it a terrible performance, but it took smoke and mirrors just to reach that level.

The only positive I can take away on that side of the ball is that Harry made another big play and maybe somehow they figure out how to get him more involved down the stretch and he can be a guy who beats coverage and makes a chunk play once in a while.

The offensive line is just putrid. I'd really like to read a piece that does a deep dive into our OL struggles this year, how much is due to missing Andrews, and how much is just guys like Shaq and Cannon badly regressing.

I will say this: Karras has never impressed me but Ferentz just is not an NFL caliber player. He was just getting run over constantly in pass protection and we got zero push running up the middle all night. Your third string center is never going to be very good but man he is bad.

Sony Michel. Just pancake soft. No power, no wiggle, benched. Damien Harris must being showing jack shit in practices.

McDaniels. He has to do better with less. Throw out every wide receiver screen in the playbook because they haven't worked for half a decade. Stop with the tricky dicky shit in the red zone like the White play on first and 10 from the twelve at the end of the game. I'm shocked they haven't transitioned into a more dink and dunk offense with the lack of weapons and sieve like O line. Even in the face of relentless blitzing they didn't work in underneath stuff until the fourth quarter. Pretty frustrating.
