Contenders
1. Pats -Kings until knocked off
2. 49ers -Undefeated, in a strong division.
3. Saints - looked good even without Kamara, Brees and Cook

Tier Two
4. Packers -Rodgers looks good
5. Ravens- Lamar looks good
6. Chiefs - Provided they get Mahomey back
7. Vikings - Strong home field advantage and point differential

Pretenders
8. Seahawks -Strong road record
9. Bills-frauds
10. Colts-horseshoe still lodged

I would wait another 24 hours for fairness sake, but it's no longer the 1970's.

I don’t see how you have GB as a tier 2 team. They’re 7-1 with Rodgers and an improved D. This team is really good. Ravens have a shot to move to Tier 1 next Sunday with a W.

Almost seems like there are too many AFC teams in this list. But which NFC team would you put in there changes week to week between the Cowboys, Rams and maybe Eagles.

This list assumes guys with injuries get healthy and only considers team strength, not likely bye and home field.

Patriots
Saints
49ers
Chiefs
Packers
Vikings
Ravens
Rams
Cowboys
Texans

For me:

Tier 1
1. New England
2. San Francisco

Tier 2
3. New Orleans
4. Green Bay

Tier 3
5. Kansas City with Mahomes

Tier 4
6. Minnesota
7. Baltimore
8. Seattle
9. Dallas
10. LA Rams
11. Buffalo
12. Philadelphia

KC without Mahomes is a lower tier 4 team. With him, they're just behind the top 4 but ahead of everyone else. That offense is still pretty spectacular but their D will be their undoing.

Same, except move the Seahawks up and the Vikings down, and replace the Colts with the Texans.

Their defense sucks. Their defense looked good against two terrible teams to start the year. They're allowing 23 points a game since the initial Chicago game. They gave up 24 to Matt Moore.

The Packers may end up going on a good run this year but they're pretty clearly behind New England, New Orleans, and the 9ers, at least.

Texans are not a top-10 team. They've gotten more gifts that bar/bat mitzvah today.

I think that’s a poor take. Gifts or not they owned the game today. I think they are the 3rd best team in the AFC after a healthy Mahomes KC, and possibly better than KC. Their HC holds them back more than KC’s coach though.

I think Colts and Bills and Titans are better, and even if not, that still doesn't mean Texans are a top-10 team. NFC is better 2+.

  1. 49ers
  2. Ravens (begrudgingly, can't stand Harbaugh and Lewis. More of a me problem.)
  3. Pats
  4. Saints (Teddy would've beat the Falcons)
  5. Packers (Jones is their MVP)
  6. Chiefs (Can't wait for 12/8)
  7. Vikings (lol)
  8. Texans (too banged up)
  9. Cowboys (potential to be amazing, but lol)
  10. Eagles/Colts (meh, same difference)
Chiefs are terrifying regardless of how they get into the playoffs. Unless their entire O-line is in the training room.
Not sold on the sustainability of the Ravens scheme. LJ is unreal, but their play design will lose it's mystery as more tape is out and coaches attack it differently. Not sold on their D or receivers either.
49ers are just so sound in all phases. This may be blasphemy in these parts (I drunkenly conjured up the conspiracy of the Pats prepping to introduce JG at halftime of a SB that will now always remembered forever as the greatest comeback ever. Not proud of it.) but I think JG looks iffy at times and that it could bite them down the road.

Not surprised, but a lot of these lists are pretty Pats-centric. I can't see the Pats at #1 after the way they got pantsed in Baltimore. Nor I do downgrade the 49ers much for losing a nailbiter (which they would've won with a decent kicker) to a desperate Seahawks team, while playing without two of their best O weapons.

Speaking of kickers, if the Pats have a tough playoff game against the Ravens, they'll have to overcome their disadvantage at FG kicker.

1. Ravens
2. 49ers
3. Pats
4. Seahawks
5. Chiefs
6+. Whoever

1. Your New England Patriots - Hard not to
2. 49ers - cooling off on their offense but that rush is unblockable
3. Seahawks - Huge win Russ could run away with MVP
4. Ravens - have shown a lot and are very hot
5. Saints - close your eyes and forget week 10
6. Packers - Love their defense and Running, having a great QB is a plus
7. KC - Mahomes
8. Vikes - offense looks very competent waiting on Theilen
9. Houston - Watson Wins
10. Pittsburgh - DEFENSE and lets see their RB's get healthy

I dont believe in the Cowboys whatsoever, Eagles don't do it for me, Until the Bill's offense shows a heartbeat I will pass, Rams have been fully broken

1.) Team to beat: Ravens. Until someone beats them, they are #1.

Strong contenders to beat the Ravens:

2.) Pats: Just have to hope that everyone stays healthy and the D continues to shine.
3.) 49'ers: Another great defense that could be the equalizer. Although they have been run on more so than the Pats.
4.) Saints: I feel these guys are a bit under the radar.

Dangerous teams that still could knock off any of the ones above them:

5.) Seahawks: 1-2 against 3 of the teams above them.
6.) Chiefs: Defense is still suspect, but Mahomes is one guy that could go mano-a-mano against Lamar.

Good teams that are just as likely to be dangerous or to disappoint:

7.) Vikings. Kirk Cousins has his chance. Big test in Seattle after the bye.
8.) Texans: Something about Texas and teams that fail to live up to their hype.
9.) Bills: Need to see them play some real teams now.
10.) Packers: Not convinced, but not leaving an 8-3 team out of the Top 10.

On the outside until they show otherwise, but could surprise (random order):

- Cowboys: Not sure Jerry Jones' comments will help matters.
- Steelers: Not going away.
- Browns: Ditto.
- Titans: Ditto**2.
- Colts: Nice run but Jacoby's injury isn't helping.
- Raiders: Cannot beat good teams.
- Rams: Seeing ghosts.

I just can't reasonably see the 9ers ahead of the Patriots. Worse defense, worse QB, worse coach. Where are they better except run game and TE?

Ravens
Patriots
9ers
Seahawks -- Wilson has me convinced they're basically the top threat in the NFC until otherwise
Saints - I think there's a drop off after the Seahawks. I'm not sold on any part of the Saints. I think teams that can matchup with Thomas can make the entire team struggle. Blah defense.
Chiefs - I'll say this, they matchup poorly with most of the teams above, but they don't with Baltimore. The Ravens should really hope the Chiefs aren't opposed to them in the divisional (and, the Pats should play to making that exact thing happen). At the same time I think the Pats blow this Chiefs team out this year -- especially if they get an early lead. What isn't discussed with the Chiefs as well as it should be is that their Oline was great last year and has been pretty pedestrian this year.
Vikings - Good everywhere, great no where.
Cowboys - I feel the same way I do about the Vikings. Good team that has played well but their record doesn't show as much.
Bills - I think the Bills could surprise people in the playoffs. I'm a bigger believer in Josh Allen then a lot of people. Wildly inconsistent but capable of playing quite well.
Packers - I think they're mostly frauds and are probably 1 and done in the playoffs.

In some years past, it's felt like there have been a bunch of really flawed teams in a mediocre league. This year though, I think there are a bunch of very very strong teams out there.

New England: 10-1, with the GOAT at QB and HC, with one of the best defenses in the history of the game.
San Francisco: 10-1, with what would otherwise be the best defense in the NFL if not for NE, a young stud at QB and playmakers all over.
Baltimore: 9-2, after thumping several top-notch opponents in a row, including NE, with one of the most dynamic players in the league at QB, an unconventional offense, and suddenly one of the best defenses in the league.
Seattle: 9-2, with an MVP candidate at QB, proven winning pedigree at QB and HC, and let's not forget they just beat SF.
New Orleans: 9-2, with an all-timer at QB, unstoppable WR in Thomas, and one of the best backs in the NFL in Kamara, plus a very good defense and excellent HC.
Green Bay: 8-3, with an all-timer at QB and a vastly improved defense.
Buffalo: 8-3, with one of the best defenses in football. Improved play at QB has helped.
Minnesota: 8-3, with a dynamic group of receivers, solid defense, and improved QB play.
Kansas City: 7-4, with probably the best player in football at QB (sorry Lamar, but Mahomes is better). Not good on D but the most electric offense around when healthy.

There's a lot of quality at the top of the NFL this year and it's very fun to watch. Seems like every week there's one or two matchups that are mouth-watering. The playoffs this year should be incredible theater.

Initial thoughts after watching some football while digesting tryptophan:

The NFC will have an interesting dogfight among the top 4 of the Saints, 49'ers, Seahawks, and Vikings. I don't see a clear favorite, and any of them could win the Super Bowl. The only way the Cowboys break into this group would be a series of helmet catches and PI non-calls.

Facing the Bills in the playoffs will be unappealing for their opponent. Only bright side is that if it all shakes out the way most of us here want it to, that game will not be in Buffalo in January. But I'm not counting those chickens yet; there is a lot of season to go.

Buffalo-Houston has potential if that is the WC match. I can't see Buffalo going into KC and winning.

As for Minnesota, they do have to fend off the Packers. NFC Wild Card weekend should be awesome though no matter how the seeding shakes out.

No love for the Chiefs, J-Man?

I think that Ravens are #1, SEA and SF are some order of 2/3, and Pats/Saints/Chiefs/Texans/Vikings are all pretty fungible in the 4-8 range.
