I only count 4 instances where this is currently possible or was possible for a reasonable amount of time. This ignores early NHL playoff alignment, so you may be able to sneak another one in, but most of the early NHL was on the east coast so probably not too many outliers based on that.

LA has Lakers/Clippers/Dodgers/Rams/Kings all cross-league/conference
St. Louis has/had Cardinals/Blues/Rams/Cardinals/Hawks
The Bay Area has Warriors/49ers/Sharks/Giants (1 of 4 newer teams)
Phoenix has Suns/Cardinals/Diamondbacks/Coyotes (3 of 4 newer teams)

That's about it though. We've hit LA an St. Louis plenty and Phoenix is too new. The Bay Area is the big outlier, IMO.

I've read a few interviews with Cassidy, and he seems to be all but saying "yeah they're big, but we will outskate them."
The Bruins have a reputation for being a big, slow team because of their system. But they're kind of the opposite, they're one of the smaller teams in the league and have a lot of great skaters. They just use their skating to suffocate teams and get to loose pucks instead of playing a wide open, north-south game.

Holy shit. I thought they were going to get the Dropkick Murphy's, Might Mighty Bosstones or one of those other "I'm from Boston and will show up to a Boston sports thing for $200" type acts. Not someone who's on top of the charts worldwide.

Wow, the Blues were swept in the finals in ‘68, ‘69 and ‘70. Did they just put all the expansion teams in the same conference?
Yes. Original Six in "east." (incl Chicago). Everyone else in "west." (incl. Philadelphia).

Apropos of absolutely nothing.:
While googling around the late 60s NHL (when I started watching), I came across this about long-time backup (and brief Bruin) Bruce Gamble:

Gamble served mainly as a back-up to Doug Favell with the Flyers for the rest of that season, appearing in 11 regular season games and two playoff games. The following year he began to compete for the starting role. He put in a run of solid performances which ended when he suffered a heart attack during a 3-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on February 8, 1972. Although he fell at one point during the game,he did not complain of problems until afterward, and traveled with the team to Oakland on February 9 for a game that evening against the California Golden Seals. As his chest pains continued, Gamble was admitted to an Oakland hospital where it was found that he had had a heart attack.Gamble did not play in the NHL again.
Hockey players have always been different.

I believe it was Bruce Gamble who took a puck to the face in the pre mask days when teams often carried just one goalie. He went to the dressing room to get stitched and finished the game

This was not so uncommon back in those days. I remember going to an EHL game at the New Haven Arena circa 1956 when the Blades goalie (Murray Dodd?) took a shot to the forehead and the game was held up for 20 minutes while he went to the locker room to get stitched up.

Same thing happened to my grandfather in the 1930s playing against a group of amateur Canadians in Vermont.

To this day I never have figured out why Bowman didn't use Glenn Hall instead of Ernie Wakely??? After Plante got hurt. The story was the he was better on the road? The guy is one of the top goalies of all time. A HOFamer. Still can't figure that out. You saw how much better Hall played then Wakely. They win at least one in St. Louis if he's in the nets I believe. Edit: Why Hall only played games 3 and 4 in Boston and not part of game 1 and all of game 2 in St.Louis.

I have no answer, but a digression. This is about when I started watching hockey. Blues had both Hall and Plante. Sawchuk was a Rangers backup. There were others. It was years and years later before I realized who these guys really were/ had been.

I don't think so. That Bruins team was loaded. Orr was God on earth at that time.

I have two tickets in section 301 (center ice balcony), row 8 for Game 1. Paid $1,750 for the pair. Going to list back on stubhub, but wanted to float them out here. Would take $1500 for the pair.

My son has a 102 temp and has been counting the hours to this game. I’m going to sell these and buy game 2 tickets, hoping he is healthy by then.

Blues went right at Chara last night.

He was on the ice for 15 of the Blues’ 28 shot attempts at 5-on-5, meaning when he was off the ice, the Bruins were a 58 percent Corsi team (26-18). Again, matchups and so on; Tarasenko, Schenn, and Schwartz are St. Louis’s big offensive engine so obviously they’re going to push play in the right direction (or, if you’re Chara, the wrong one). But man, you can’t give those guys those opportunities to get so many looks because of what Chara has meant to this team for 13 years.
Not sure that's something that the Bruins are going to "fix" as much as hope it just doesn't hurt them.

Lambert failed to mention that it was Chara/McAvoy and the 4th line vs St Louis’ 1st line. I think that’s a matchup you kinda expect to lose but hopefully not too badly, so the rest of the team can take advantage of better matchups and that’s what happened.

I've known Lambert for 20 years...he's an arrive at the conclusion and fill in the rest working backwards type of guy. He's a good writer and knows the game pretty well, but he would have been great at talk radio.

His analysis on the 2nd goal completely ignores that McAvoy was closest to Tarasenko and reacted by going to him; Z was closest to Schenn, so Z playing the pass with his stick was basically the best option. If he back skates to the slot, he's in the same situation vis a vis the pass and he doesn't have time to close on Schenn.

The 2nd goal was pretty much all on Pasta.

See, I hate him as a writer because everything he writes comes off to me as "I'm smarter than you, everyone who disagrees with me is a complete idiot." I prefer to not be talked down to when reading.

"It was more a stare. His pupils were pretty big. I don't if he's on something, but he was pretty fired up."
I still get a little chuckle when the graphic comes on the screen "Tripping - 2 minutes"

Criticizing either defenseman here is ridiculous, given Pasta's misplay. It would be like criticizing a defenseman for not being ready to block a shot when a teammate spins and fires a shot at his own goalie.
