OTC says that going into 2019 the Pats will have 21.9 Million in cap money.

The can gain more by:
Cutting D. Allen (+7.4)
Claybourne (+4) (2 Mil dead money)
Hightower (+5.375) (5 Mil dead money)
(there are others like Cyrus the Virus for about 1 mil, Ebner for 2.2 mil and Slater for 2.5, Not saying Nate and Slate SHOULD be cut, but they could be for more space).

That would give them about 38.675 Million in cap space. (Or about 45 if we worked the edges of the roster)

But along with having to replace the 3 "core guys" above we also have multiple FAs (21) including
Ghost
Allen
Mal Brown
Hill
Rowe
Trey Flowers
Trent Brown
Jon Jones
Patterson
Hogan
Shelton

Needs
LB
WR
S
QB
DT
TE
T
DE

Great thread idea and something that will be very interesting to watch develop in the offseason. I do think it is very hard to project what they could do in free agency though without knowing the actual cash budget. Personally I couldn’t see ownership paying the up front cash to acquire a top free agent like Clowney. This is however a crucial draft, especially if they end up with a top 15 pick. They need to hit on multiple impact players on defense.

It's fair to say they should have ponied up for a player like Mack, but I can understand why they didn't. Clowney will probably get franchised. They're simply going to have to spend top draft capital on the LB position.

I think the needs are so prevalent, it would be wise to spread resources throughout the roster rather than going all-in on big names. The star talent on the Pats has fluctuated through the years, but they've always had a solid roster 15-53. I don't think that's true now. The players who have to step in when there are injuries are scary.

It’s only interesting if TB12 is still an elite QB — if they’re rebuilding, I’m not sure they’d want to retain anyone on that list. And even if TB12 is still elite, the majority of these guys will be cooked in two years.

Fine with me. I'll be shocked if there's even a 2021 season. May as well look at a two-year GFIN window.

Good call.

If you could only pick one, would you guys rather have Trent Brown back or Flowers? Hoping they find a way to bring back both, but doesn't seem likely.

Flowers Too few difference makers on that side of the ball. Possible retirements of Gronk and DMac are big factors

Agreed. They have a legit 1st round pick waiting in the wings in Wynn to replace Brown (who, frankly, has been frigging awesome and I don't expect Wynn to be as good...but he's at least a legit in-house replacement), but the cupboard is bare after Flowers.
