Even if the runner is in foul territory I don't think the 1st baseman catches that ball.

If this stands it’s absolutely fucking horrible. He was running straight down the line. If that’s against the rules guys should be called out on it all the fucking time

I love Buck saying fans in stadium have no idea what's going on.

Because no one has a phone or anything.

The thing is if the runner is running inside the lane, as he clearly was the entire time except maybe the final step, it changes the ability to make a good throw, it cuts off the potential angle, which is why I don't agree with that Passan tweet above.
The ball got there after Turner. Had Turner stayed in the running lane, he would have been safe. BS call

there was a play in last year's playoffs, I honestly forget if it was vs Astros or Dodgers, but Vazquez throwing to 1st hit a runner who was entirely inside the baseline, and there was no call. I seemed to be the only one who cared. To call this one is horrible.

you've GOT to be fucking kidding me.

Edit: the Nats should play under protest. If they don't win this game this should be the biggest stink since BALCO.

From where he was in the box he ran a straight line to the bag. Running into the lane would have caused him to take longer. How is that the legal thing to do?

That is one of the worst calls I’ve ever seen. If they lose this game they should bitch and moan the entire press conference

If the Nats don’t win this game that call will be among the most infamous in baseball history.

Yes, that's my understanding of the rule as well. I don't care who wins this, I just remember the Sox getting called on something like that not too long ago. I've never liked it but that's my understanding of the rule.
