Haven't been able to keep up with NU as much this year, but they've dropped a pair of BRUTAL games in OT vs. UNH and UConn this past week. They're still looking OK right now for the tourney, but those losses will be agonized over for a long time if they miss out.

Coming in to the night Hockey East had 6 teams in the top 15 of the Pairwise (BC, UMass, NU, Lowell, PC, UNH).

Watching the Harvard/Northeastern Beanpot game 1. I haven't watched a ton of college hockey lately, but the instant replay situation in college hockey is totally out of control. Multiple 5 minute + reviews on goals over zone entries.

Going to take me a while to process the BC meltdown last night. Better team for most of the night, two goal lead, on the power play late in the third period, yet lost the game.

Mcinnis with another of his patented unnecessary penalties killed that late power play. Cotton scores with under a minute to tie it, so you figure they have some momentum going into OT, but then the defense kinda stood around and watched for a good part of the OT until BU scored. I agree..they were the better team most of the night...BU goalie played very well

Three Beanpots in a row. Someone pinch me.
Indeed. 38 years to get 4 Pots and can double in it 4 years. This was the win I expected to break that long drought, near heartbreak with some luck and fortune falling on the NU side of the ice. Saw a lot of that pass by NU in years past, feels much better on this side of it! Losing would have sucked but would be more like the the 2008 ALCS than 2003.

No dog in the fight but it was a fantastic hockey game that was ended by a weak ass penalty call.
When the refs swallowed their whistles early in OT you could see it coming that someone was going to get dinged for a borderline call. Would have bet the mortgage the Huskies would be on the receiving end of that call.

And at least nobody "lost" due to the new OT rules, which might be dumber than anything the NHL ever came up with. :eyeroll:

Shea's dad is a dear friend of mine. I imagine when I ask him, he will say terrible call. Gonna wait a couple days.

Harvard game will be played without players, now, Forfeit.
Sounds like BC or BU also are considering this.

Yeah. growth is good, but it seems to be a complete surprise to everyone in the hockey community...usually there's a lot more preparation and whatnot. Good luck to them filling a team and schedule for next season.

2020-2021 ECAC looks dead unless the rest of the conferences move 2+ months to the future.
(Ivies no sports until January-cross-posting)

Hockey East resumes 11/20. Conference only. Home and home weekends for close (i.e. MA) teams, 2 game home or away weekends for games v. VT and ME

BC and BU have each explicitly stated no fans this year. Hopefully all the teams follow. (Depends on state and local officials)
Northeastern announced last month that no fans will be in attendance. Thanks for reminding me to send in my cutout fan for the season!

Boy did I get surprised when I turned on my DVR

BC UNH Men's Hockey tonight (season opener) is postponed to a date TBD (possibly Sunday?) due to "possible" positive test(s) for UNH. 2nd game of the home and home is tentatively still on for tomorrow.

Maybe UNH partied with Maine?

BC Men will now play UMass-Amherst this weekend, instead of Providence.

-----
BU @ UVM for 12/4-5 has been postponed, as has UVM @ UMass-Lowell for 12/12-13

The University of Vermont announced it will “delay the start of competition” for its hockey and basketball teams until Dec. 18 (Due to COVID-19 and guidance from VT state officials)

BU pausing Women's hockey activities, including postponing series with PC, due to a positive test in the program.

BU Men (v. PC) are playing their first regular season game at Walter Brown in 16 years. MOS for Travis Roy and Jack Kelley (Game already started on NESN+)

BC UNH on NESN (Men at 7ET)

BC 4 BU 3 in OT

Helleson goes end to end and taps it in for the win with a second left in OT. Reminded me of Brian Leetch.

Tomorrow at the wrong end of Comm Ave. BU is much better than their ranking.

Liked the Eagles rope and dope in the OT, you don't usually see that patience in 3 on 3 OT, seemed liked they held the puck for 4 minutes out of the 4:58.

Their power play is still so bad compared to their PK. Even after the goal, they have 6 PK goals on the year with just 5 PP. Arguably the worst PP for any recent #1 ranked team.

NU vs. Wisconsin tonight for the women's national title tonight, televised on ESPNU.
Just came here to post the same. NU's first ever national title game appearance in ice hockey. Could be Hockey East's first ever national title on the women's side too. They've awarded a national title only since 2001, here's a list of the winners:

Minnesota
Minnesota-Duluth
Wisconsin
Clarkson

Overtime. 1-1. Northeastern is a goal away from its first ever national championship in any sport. I'm shaking.

sorry man. rough way to lose a game. that 3-1 was the chance, hell of a play by the d to block the pass. looked like she had a wide open net if it got through

I thought UML did not really show up for the HE men's championship game. They lost 1-0 to UMass Amherst, as with the women, on a deflection goal. Had a disputed call for a goal go against them but overall I think if not for their goaltender it could have been 5-0. Offense never got it together. Defense played well but the offense mustered only 16 shots on goal. I didn't see it as much as great UMass defense as I did bad positioning and poor passing choices by Lowell. I thought they looked tired.

Maybe they will get a break and get into the NCAAs. It was a good run. I think they surprised a lot of teams.

That was brutal for Northeastern. I still harbor animosity at the BC hockey program for fostering an environment where Daryl Watts lost her love for hockey that convinced her to transfer. Reading those interviews is sad and frustrating. One of the two greatest female hockey players I've ever seen live for multiple games (Alex Carpenter). BCWH hasn't been the same since. Was rooting for Hockey East to bring it home even though I've been known to yell "safety school" at NU games. Now there are good odds she's going to be a 2-time Kazmaier winner whenever they get around to awarding that. Happy for her. But sick of Wisc and Minn dominating.

As for the Men's side, the Northeast and West Regions are going to be very interesting. A shame they couldn't play the NE in Worcester. (Or Prov/Manch)
