Not saying it wasn't justified but the Browns are going to have a hard time after only giving Kitchens one year. The Redskins job might be better now that Allen is said to be out too.

I hope so. I like the NFL best when NFC East is good and it has been mediocre for a long time.

Rivera sucks but I guess he'd at least bring short term credibility to an organization that has none.

Either the Browns job or Giants job are ones I leave for if I was McDaniels
I'd take the Cowboys job in a cocaine heartbeat if I were McDaniels.

EDIT: The Giants just announced that they're keeping Dave Gettleman - That coaching gig is going to be a hard pass for anyone with half a brain.

Should be an opportunity or two for McDaniels this offseason. I don't expect him back with the Pats next year.

McDaniels is an Ohio guy and I believe wife is also from there. Pats reportedly had interest in Mayfield coming out as well so Cleveland job is probably pretty attractive to him.

Well, I'll take John Mara at his word:

"Dave Gettleman is our general manager in 2020 and hopefully for many years after that. We believe he is the right person to lead us going forward."

Seems dumb by Giants if they want a good coach

I think I'm okay with McDaniels leaving. The offense needs large scale changes anyway and it's never been clear to me that McDaniels is the proper heir to the throne.

It's not ideal but far from a tragedy. Just annoying how NE loses coaches seemingly every year. Seems like 1/3 of the league are former Pats coaches.

It was about he Giants and Rhule.

I’d rank the current openings;

1. Dallas
2. Cleveland
3. Carolina
4. Giants
5. Washington

I totally agree with this order and I can't imagine what Ron Rivera is thinking going to the bottom of the barrel. They couldn't pay me enough to take that job with Snyder owning the team.

Doesn't Washington have the #2 pick? I mean the chance to take over a team that has a lot of young pieces (i.e., QB, RB, WR, multiple defensive pieces) and add Chase Young (could have a Bosa like impact) isn't the worst thing in the world.

Cleveland I guess has some talent, although they perennially underachieve. Outside of a few talented players, the franchise has been a complete dumpster fire for 20 years, goes through head coaches like peppermints and seems like a terrible place to work. Carolina doesn't have a QB right now, but that seems like a more stable franchise willing to give their head coach a long leash. They did recently change owners so who knows.

That's fine, but what happens when Snyder spends all of your cap space on washed up vets because they had a name? Then it doesn't matter if you have the greatest draft in history; your team is fucked.

I get it. Snyder is beyond awful. I am just saying that at least Washington has some pieces to work with, though due to management it may be difficult to ever build a winner.

If Josh McDaniels goes to Cleveland, he better figure out really quick how to keep Home Run Baker from trying to hit the home run ball on every play. Yesterday, he threw for over 270 yards on only 12 completions. He just holds and holds and holds the ball, looking for Landry or OBJ to get open, and ignores wide open guys underneath, etc. He's pretty much the anti-Brady.

I think Washington has the fewest pieces to work with, plus the Snyder element. Maybe the Giants have less talent but I’d take Jones over Hoskins and they too have a top pick.

If McDaniels doesn't leave this year, he's never leaving. The triumvirate of roots, offensive weapons, and a history of other head coaches underachieving is a great risk/reward proposition.

The Giants job is the one for Josh IMO.

The duo of Jones & Barkley is an awesome start on offense.

Use the draft picks and cap space on defense and you have a fighting shot (right out of the gate) in an NFC East that ain't world-beaters.

Silver has sidled up to another source. I suppose he spared us another reminder that he’s totes BFFEs with Steve Kerr.

Anyways, that’s a good hire for Washington. Too bad the owner stays.

It appears on Twitter that Jon Kitna was quite popular as a QB coach and was instrumental in getting the best out of Dak this season, so that would be a big loss for Dallas.

What a waste of a season for a talented Cowboys squad. You never know when injuries will strike (my impression is they had relatively good injury luck this year - of course, I could be incorrect) and next year could always be derailed by them, so teams should try to maximize each season. If the HC has a record of success then obviously a lot of rope is earned, but there seemed zero downside to cutting the cord with Garrett once things went downhill with zero indicators that there'd be a rebound - in fact, Garrett's records by season indicated that a significant rebound was unlikely. Some new blood may have energized the team. I looked back through the Cowboy's schedules through 2010 (when Garrett replaced Phillips mid-season) and it's remarkable how many seasons of his go at a 1 win, 1 loss pace. The better teams always seem to build momentum by the end and Garrett's squads failed that test 6 out of 10 years and I'm including the year he went 5-3 after he took over for a 1-7 Phillips squad.

Replacement for McDaniels if he leaves? O'Shea called plays during some reason games when he was here, right?

Albert Breer mentioned on the local post game show that O’Shea felt some hostility towards the Patriots for not being promoted to OC and that’s why he left for Miami in the first place.
