Duke's canceling the season due to COVID. Curious if they'd do the same if they didn't suck.
Missing the NCAA tourney for the first time in 24 years. But I don't want the narrative to be "they missed it due to Covid". I want it to be "they missed it because they sucked this year", because that's the truth.

Coach K will be appealing with the NCAA to have any losses this year be attributed to Covid and removed from his overall winning percentage.

Georgetown beating Villanova today with two FT's with seconds to go. Good for Ewing.

Once Gillespie went down, Nova was in serious trouble. Plus you have Moore who was injured.

Wonder what seed they will get now.

This reminded me of when Bryce Cotton not being let into The Dunk for a game as security didn’t believe he was a player. He had to call an assistant coach to come get him and let him in. I can actually see that but who doesn’t recognize Ewing?

"In an age where sponsor patches are on every NBA uniform and the Nike swoosh has even hit MLB jerseys, maybe it was only a matter of time before companies started pushing for the actual names of major American sports teams.

Michigan State entered new territory on Thursday by announcing a massive expansion in its endorsement deal with Rocket Mortgage, including a name change for its men's basketball team on campus.

Yes, rather than call them the Michigan State Spartans, the team will now receive the following treatment in East Lansing's Breslin Center:

--Under the new five-year deal, Detroit-based Rocket Mortgage will be the presenting sponsor of the famed men's basketball team which will now be known throughout the Breslin Center as, "MSU Spartans Presented by Rocket Mortgage."--

The MSU Spartans Presented by Rocket Mortgage, feel the hype."

I get that it's about $$$$.... but I'm gonna die if Syracuse ever becomes: "Introducing your Syracuse Orange, presented by Crouse Sports Medicine!"

Things are going well in NCAA land. So far those three schools have been removed from the conference tourney's because of Covid outbreaks on the team
So one positive test, with a greater than zero chance of it be a false positive, eliminates a school from the entire tournament next week or is this only for the conference tournaments? The next couple of weeks have the potential to be among the most embarrassing ever for the NCAA. Could you imagine if a Baylor or a Gonzaga had their season ended due to a positive test of their assistant trainer?

Ohio State was winning pretty easily but are putting on a pretty epic choke job here, having not put in a field goal in over 5 minutes. Game tied, 9 ticks, Ohio State ball. They can win.

I've seen Baylor 4 times. Granted they've been very entertaining, but they're 2-2 in those games, several poor 2nd halfs, a couple possessions from 1-3. Don't look dominant at all. B12-2 competition is great, I'll grant that

Ohio State is absolutely awful at trying to close out a game in the last 4 minutes against a good team. 4 times in the last 8 days.

At least Ohio State managed to win 3 of the 4 games after collapsing late.

Is Bama a 1 seed if they win tomorrow?

Just utter disarray in both games the past two days.

But, to give Ohio State credit, their overtime performance yesterday was legit. They should have just collapsed and instead, dominated the OT. Today, they tried to give away the game with turnover after turnover but pulled it off. These are two great wins the past two days.

Great team, definitely a top 10 team right now, but their ability to close looks like a huge problem.

Fun fact - he’s still not been punished by the ncaa.
Boeheim got suspended and lost wins because an assistant coach wrote a paper for a player. Rick Pitino was involved in a money scandal involving sneaker companies and players, plus he had a huge sex scandal. And hasn’t been punished at ALL by the NCAA.

The NCAA is completely corrupt.

And I’m so happy for Patrick Ewing. that’s an incredible run Georgetown just had.
My son is a senior at Georgetown and a huge fan of their sports. He was president this year of the student organization that organizes the student section, arranges trips to away games, etc... this year. It has been a huge disappointment that the club had been hardly able to do anything this year, and it's been a frustrating four years to be a Georgetown basketball fan.* The expectations coming into this year were zero after all the turmoil the program went through last year, and then they lost to Navy early this year. Yikes! People were starting to wonder if Ewing needed to go. The team got a lot better in the second half of the season but was still able to put up some stinkers, like the last regular season game when they were embarrassed by UConn. Completely unexpected championship here, which makes it all the sweeter.

* They did win a national title in men's soccer last year which made up for some of it, but still...

They are picked last in the Big East. Huge, massive turnaround.

Someone explain this replacement team BS. Teams just quarantine for a week in Indiana like the other 68 teams and hope and pray someone gets Covid and they take their place? It's only for the first game, right? What if the replacement wins 2 straight and the Covid team gets negative tests, does it go back in?

Does the committee seed based on body of work or based on the team which the school will put on the floor in the tournament? If it’s the latter you can make a case for Alabama over Michigan if Livers is finished.

Dam. Beavers actually won the Conference of Champions Tourney for the first time ever and stole a bid.

The NCAA is now scrambling to figure out how to get Duke in now. Maybe spike a test or two this week?
Duke doesn't deserve to be in the 16-team NIT field, never mind the NCAA. If the NCAA somehow lets them in, it's going to be an absolute travesty.

The conspiracy theorist in me believes that a NCAA committee mole tipped Coach K off that if he could get two wins then find a way to shut it down they would ensure he’s in.

The crazy thing was that there was a significantly greater than zero chance that Duke runs through that tournament Kemba-style.

I mean sure, greater than zero, but still not a good chance. Duke just isn't that good this year.

Neither was Georgia Tech, who lost to Duke once and went to OT with them the other time, who just won the ACC Tournament. They also lost to Georgia St and Mercer earlier in the year. My point was only that the door was wide open for them as it was for others in the ACC without any one dominant team.

Yup, the SEC has some legit NBA talent. Need to get better at FT shooting though for some of them.

Ohio State played as badly as possible for the first 10 minutes -- playing 4 games in 4 days is hard enough without having to battle Kofi Cockburn in the paint -- but they've turned it around and trimmed a 17-point Illinois lead down to 5 at the half.

Again with Ohio State fumbling and bumbling at the end of a game. This team is very good but they unravel at the worst times.

Of course, they missed a couple of 3s a few minutes ago that would have been daggers. Now they need some luck.
