URLs don't always change when the story is updated. Click, read, learn
The point, of course, being that it was pretty obvious right from the start that the injury was there (as opposed to the shoulder, say), and that it wasn’t just “apparent”.

Who fucking cares?
I thought it was absurd that the headline would read “apparent lower leg Injury” when the guy’s bone was protruding and he was taken off a cart with his leg in a boot.

If you don’t care, good for you.

It's the URL, though. Not the column. It's not relevant.

well, I asked at the time of Dalton's signing, was it worth the cap space to sign a expensive backup QB? apparently they had the room, and now the insurance policy just paid out for the Cowboys.

It will be interesting to see how he looks. He’s never quite had the full skill position talent around him that Dallas currently has. But the offensive line is missing 3 starters for the rest of the season so that is going to be challenging.

He wasn’t afraid to air it out when given the chance yesterday so that was encouraging to see.

The Cowboys are basically a test now of what would you rather have: (1) GREAT skill position players with a bad OL, or (2) mediocre skill position players with a great OL.

That might been the worst display of OL play by both teams that I’ve seen - certainly in the passing game. It seemed like every pass play bordered on a jailbreak. Daniel Jones is going to get David Carr’d.

Are they, though? Or are they just a test of how much storm you can weather having lost 5 offensive starters?

Spoiler alert: it won't be much and I fully expect them to enter the bye week with a record of 2-7.

Funny. But not with two of those losses coming to Washington and Philadelphia.

You’ve just given the reason why my post is true.
Believe that all you wish but I did nothing of the sort. Or need I remind you that the Cowboys lost their starting quarterback yesterday? That's kind of a crucial component of your little experiment; the control variable, if you will.

Dallas also lost their starting tight end for the season back in the opener, so they never could have fully done the “experiment” of playing with all their skill position players and a shoddy O-line.

Now that Dak is out...literally the most important skill position player...no chance in testing the theory.

Yup. He was one of the 5 I identified:

Tyron Smith
Travis Frederick/Joe Looney
La'El Collins
Blake Jarwin
Dak Prescott

Yeah, they have a lousy offensive line because three starters are hurt. And their skill position players are among the best in football, QB excluded, but even he, with quality weapons, can be pretty decent.

It feels like you’re itching to fight when I don’t think we are seeing things that differently. But maybe I’m wrong.

If I wanted a fight, you'd know it. There would be no ambiguity.

Dallas
A few things with the Cowboys:

1) Dalton was known for his fast release as well. He will get rid of the ball quickly which will help mitigate the pass-rush situation with the weak OL.

2) I think your biggest issues on D, and there are quite a few obviously, are the DTs. DTs aren't anchoring at all. Gallimore's biggest issue coming into the league was he needed to add functional strength and be able to do more than just be an interior penetrator. Guy gets push around in the run game. Hill is hurt. Poe is mediocre. Front 7 is bad. No way around it. It's hard to determine what is the biggest hole given that the secondary is a shit show minus Woods and to a lesser degree Awuzie.

3) There are some bright spots. Aldon Smith looks good. Dalton Schultz has come into his own as a receiver. Ceedee Lamb is as advertised. Feels like the Cowboys are too much of a glass cannon right now and not enough investment in the defense. It's going to be hard to do that though if they are paying Dak too. Right now 2021 Cowboys are at 170 million against the cap with 41 people on the roster. I struggle to see how the team won't have similar issues next year with a mediocre defense minus some awful injury luck.

Things are getting ugly in Big D.

#Cowboys players initially bought into keeping things internal. Now as they sit 2-4 the discontent is leaking out. On the coaching staff “totally unprepared. They don’t teach. They don’t have any sense of adjusting on the fly.” Another “they just aren’t good at their jobs"

Totally unprepared with no sense of adjusting on the fly.

And these are players who were previously coached by the Clapper.

Isn't that a Parcells line? The Tuna wants to come out of retirement.

They aren't very good, but yeah in first place. It's kind of crazy, with all the talent they have. And Dalton isn't exactly Brian Hoyer. (I dunno...maybe he is)
QB rating of 38.9 over a 2-11 campaign last year, and that's after 3 consecutive seasons of decline. He's done like dinner. Maybe we can trade them Hoyer for a conditional 8th.

If Atlanta had recovered the onside kick, this team might have a legit shot at the #1 pick. But since there's no way the Jets win 3 games and the Cowboys are the type of team to fuck around and win when they shouldn't, it's just not going to happen. They are definitely bound for a top 5 pick so they should not be messing around with trading away any resources. They will need to explore the free agent QB market, however, because that offensive line is going to cause a lot of injuries at that position.

In the draft, they should spend their first 3-4 picks on the line...both O-line and D-line. This team is quickly becoming noncompetitive because of their utter incompetence on the line. Say what you want about Rod Marinelli's defenses (I had my critiques), they at least produced solid D-lines that could stop the run and the guys flew to the football.

This current incarnation looks like the type of dogshit they used to put on the field under Rob Ryan.

But perhaps I'm making my own counter argument to the draft idea above: The problem is more the coaches and not the players. I still think they need some more talent on the line regardless. They also need to draft a Tyron Smith replacement and another guard on the O-line assuming Looney and Collins come back healthy next season.

0-3 to 4-3
I don't know about a top 5 pick. They're currently 8th, and they've got two vs Philly, another vs Giants, another vs Wash, and Bengals and Vikings. Sure, they don't look like they could beat anyone right now but there's a lot of offensive firepower there and of those six games I could see 3-3 pretty easily especially if some of their guys get healthy.

Regardless, coaching seems to be an issue. Any chance McCarthy is a one-and-done?

Definitely not but it's something I would strongly consider if I were owner. Well, if I were owner, I wouldn't have hired McCarthy in the first place.

What offensive firepower? They've scored a combined 13 points in the past two games.

I'd be shocked if they were to win more than one of those games but I wouldn't put it past them to do that and end up with the 10th pick. Good, but not good enough to make this shitshow immediately better.

Aaaaaand....Andy Dalton now has COVID and won't be playing against Pittsburgh. DiNucci vs. Steelers...yikes

@RapSheet

The #Cowboys are seriously contemplating turning to QB Cooper Rush as their starter this week… which would require he get activated from the practice squad, source said. With Andy Dalton down with COVID, it may not be Ben DiNucci again.

I mean, why not? Can't go back to the DiNucci well.

Seems like the defense has sort of turned a positive corner the last couple weeks...maybe it was just the lack of a preseason and reps that made it look so awful. They could have won yesterday with a couple calls not being made (or Jaylon not being a dumbass) but losing is best for business anyways.

They also looked inspired for the first time all season. Like they were busting their ASSES every play. LVE coming back definitely helped. So have the returns of Randy Gregory and Anthony Brown (stabilized the secondary a little....although now Diggs is out....but they just activated Chidobe Awuzie off IR too for this week)

Anybody hearing any details about what happened there today? Hearing things ranging from heart attack to possibly even someone taking their own life (I am hoping it is more minor than either of these)

Only thing I've seen is someone saying that it's not Jerry Jones. McCarthy having a heart attack would be my guess.

Paul was a former assistant strength coach of the Patriots from 2000-2004.

They have not updated the URL or preview apparently, but the first sentece was edited a few minutes ago to read "Former Syracuse defensive back Markus Paul is in serious condition at a Dallas area hospital..."

edit: looks like TMZ may have broken the new update https://www.tmz.com/2020/11/24/dallas-cowboys-cancel-practice-after-staffer-suffers-serious-medical-issue/

The Cowboys put out a statement saying he is alive and in the hospital.
