Interesting. An Njoku/NE trade would make a ton of sense, but who knows.

Can anyone explain the difference between this thread and the offseason thread. We're posting signings and news in both.

The Mitchell Trubisky era in Chicago could be ending. At least, his era as a starter.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, talks are underway between the Bears and Saints quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.

The initial numbers floating around (something in the range of $21 million per year) suggest that Bridgewater would be installed as the No. 1 option in Chicago. And that would be a great deal for a guy who has started six games since January 2016.

From Springfield to Providence
WTF Miami?

Edit: one of the first responses I saw was "Dolphins are taking tanking to a new level"

The pros: Flowers is still just 25, and he really blossomed (pun intended) following a move inside. Being described by some as an “ascending” player.

The cons: 10 freakin’ million. Also, I’m rarely a fan of players who seem to finally “get it” in a contract year.

I’m about a 3 or 4 on this move if using a 1-10 Likert scale.

Edit: Other good news In light of the Texans-AZ trade. Miami owns Houston’s 1st and 2nd round picks in next year’s draft. Keep wheelin’ and dealin’, Billy!

That's a nice trade for Baltimore. Yes Hurst is a recent 1st rounder but obviously has been surpassed by Mark Andrews and Hurst did not significantly outperform 3rd TE Nick Boyle.

Details on Hooper deal:

Austin Hooper has agreed to a four-year contract with the Cleveland Browns that will make him the NFL's highest-paid tight end.

Hooper told ESPN's Vaughn McClure the deal is worth $44 million, with $23 million guaranteed.
Not as much as I thought, but it's high.

Please, no, not another diva Vikings WR:

Rumored off-and-on as a trade candidate, Stefon Diggs has emerged on this front again. The Seahawks are interested, with Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times tweeting interest has emerged on both sides in a potential Diggs deal.

Diggs dissatisfaction with his role on Minnesota’s offense led to 2019 trade rumors, but the Vikings squashed that and depended on their well-paid wideout the rest of the season. Adam Thielen’s injury thrust Diggs to the top of the Vikings’ aerial pecking order. But the Vikings have two receivers making $14MM-plus annually, with Diggs at $14.4MM per year and Thielen now north of $16MM on average.

Reports of drama with Diggs percolated throughout 2019. The wide receiver wasn’t happy with his role early on in the season and even after he eased up on some of his comments, many still believed that he wanted out. The Vikings, meanwhile, said they’d smooth things out. Right now, it looks like he could be on his way to another NFC contender.

Diggs, on the verge of his age-27 season, is signed through 2023 thanks to his five-year, $72MM extension. Last year, he caught 63 passes for 1,130 yards and six touchdowns. He was targeted just 94 times – down from his 149 targets in 2018 – but he was more efficient than ever as he averaged 17.9 yards per catch.
Sounds like the Harvin saga all over again.

Edit: And if the fucking Cardinals didn't give up a first for Hopkins, they better not give up a first for Diggs.

Harvin had a lot more drama than a guy that simply wants the ball more.

Funny you meant Harvin....I was thinking more like Moss, and wondering what the down side was.

They both got paid.
Buckner is much better than Armstead. I think the Armstead extension pays him like $17M per year. If Buckner is getting paid ~$20M, I would rather have Buckner in a vacuum, but the 49ers needed draft capital.
Seems dumb to me for the Colts to trade their 1st round pick to pay Buckner market value. That's a big price to pay to not let him hit the market.

I agree with you. Seems like an overpay, though the Colts do have tons of cash.
I was saying I think the 49ers traded Buckner instead of Armstead b/c they could get more for Buckner in a trade.

Anyone seen how long Buckner extension is? Could it be short on years?

Saw him congratulating Armstead on getting paid on social media today, interested to see how he reacts now.

That might be a slight premium to keep Teddy from getting to the post-Brady market, but not a large one based on the QB contracts being handed out (er...Tanehill...). All told, that would commit the Bears to just over $30m for Teddy & Mitch this season, which is not unreasonable. But it wipes out their 2020 cap space as things stand, so we're likely to see Akiem Hicks, Cordarrelle Patterson and maybe even Tarik Cohen get cut. A new deal for Leonard Floyd could open up room, maybe a new deal for Charles Leno, too, if they think he has 4 more good years (he's 28).

One of the Bears beat writers relayed during the season that the coaching staff were frustrated with how slimmed down and simplified Tribusky's playbook has to be. Nagy prides himself on being an Andy Reid disciple, meaning he wants to have a big playbook with a lot of creativity and lot of different looks. Teddy would be a great fit, particularly given his growth and performance under Sean Payton. They might go into training camp saying Mitch is the incumbent and he'll have to compete, but Teddy should quickly overtake him.
