Augusta National has put out their broadcast information for the tournament. The biggest headline of the release is that ESPN will be broadcasting College GameDay live from Augusta National on Saturday 11/14 from 9 am-Noon. The stage will be out on the 9th hole of the Par 3 course overlooking Ike's Pond. There is no Par 3 contest this year. Another new feature is that there will be a "My Group" function digitally where you can follow any player or players you want and see every shot of theirs. In addition to the Amen Corner and 15/16 hole coverage digitally that they have featured in the past, they are adding a live feed for coverage of the 4th/5th/6th holes.

TV Coverage
Thursday 11/12: 1-5:30 pm ESPN
Friday 11/13: 1-5:30 ESPN
Saturday 11/14: 1-5 pm CBS
Sunday 11/15: 10 AM-3 PM CBS

So the leaders will be going off very early it looks like?
Less daylight than April.

Edit: I think the traditional final tee time on the weekend is around 2:45 pm and the finish comes around 7-7:30. Can't play that late in November.

And they want to get done before the 4:25 football game for CBS. Both of those factors combined mean a 10:30-11am tee time for the leaders I'd guess.

Correct on both counts here. I am so psyched for this event.

Wonder if they'll do split tees on Thursday and Friday. There are 97 players qualified, so 33 groups if everyone plays. They can start earlier than normal, but not sure they can fit everyone in going the traditional route.

They are - they already announced that.

Saw this the other day, Bryson's prep.

https://golf.com/news/surprising-way-bryson-dechambeau-prepping-masters/
Doofus Face is looking to put on 10 more pounds, bringing him up to 245. Says he's got equipment things going on and also is tinkering with a max length, 48-inch driver. He's not sure if it'll be in the bag for Augusta, but it's something he's working with. He also says he'll hit between 1,000 and 2,000 drives in preparation.

2 weeks out but he's the favorite in Vegas.

I can't wait to see the lines he takes off tees. He'll be playing a different course.

I really hope DeChambeau makes a mockery of Augusta by playing it in the most unconventional way possible. Can't wait for those salty salty "He's ruining the game" tears.

It’s going to rain in Augusta a bit every day from Tuesday thru Sunday, according to NWS. Tropical Storm Eta will reach northern FL by Friday. The weekend could be windy and wet.

Bryson hitting drivers on the range on Live From. I think he's swinging harder than he was during the summer.

Looking at the weather, a Monday finish is very likely?

Looks like Thursday will be mostly a wash out and then it will rain Friday through Sunday. Not sure there is enough daylight to play 36 one day.

The track of Eta could landfall anywhere between north of Tampa and New Orleans, so that is a huge unknown for the weekend still, but Thursday is not directly associated with that storm. It ain't looking good then.

The only way to squeeze in 2 rounds into late fall daylight is to play back to back shotgun starts with the remaining 50 players post-cut grouped in threesomes, and there is no way in hell Augusta National is going to end the tournament with the winner sinking a birdie putt on the 8th hole and all other players scattered around the course. If you run threesomes sequentially off the first tee at the butt crack of light with an aggressive round time of 4 hr 30 min and aggressive spacing of 8 mins, the leaders finish their first round at 6am + (17 groups x 8/60 hr) + 4.5 hrs = 12:45-ish. That won't work...

So here's the thing: DeChambeau is a monster, obviously. But here's 2020 season driving distance:

Bryson DeChambeau: 322.1
Cameron Champ: 322.0
Ryan Brehm: 315.3
Rory McIlroy: 314.0

So why isn't anyone talking about Cameron Champ overpowering the course? And McIlroy isn't *that* far behind.

Driving accuracy:

DeChambeau: #140, 57.37%
Champ: #154, 56.36%
Brehm: #190, 48.78%
McIlroy: #155, 56.34%

So the difference between DeChambeau and Champ off the tee is virtually nil. They will have 14 drives per round, or 56 drives over 4 rounds at Augusta. They hit them the same distance on average. The accuracy numbers tell us that Bryson will hit 32.13 out of 56 fairways, while Champ hits 31.56 fairways. So maybe Bryson hits one more fairway over the course of the entire tournament.

But now here are their scoring averages (again, 2020 season):

DeChambeau: 69.24
Champ: 70.87
Brehm: 71.80
McIlroy: 69.22

So it's not simply that Bryson will overpower Augusta. Champ, and to a lesser but not insignificant degree, McIlroy (I don't think Brehm is in the field), can both overpower the course as well. What sets DeChambeau apart isn't just his length - it's that he's good at all aspects of the game, really. Or else we'd be talking about Cameron Champ overpowering Augusta.

DeChambeau isn't just an animal. He's a really great golfer.

Those numbers would look very different if you only looked at them after the re-start, not for the whole 2020 season. That's when Bryson went big on distance.

He's significantly longer than everyone off the tee right now. 322 is gonna be his 3 wood distance.

The biggest difference between Bryson and the other long hitters is putting. Bryson was 10th in strokes gained putting for 2020. Rory was 122, Champ 136. Bryson is lousy on approach and around the green (he loses strokes on approach and chipping) but it doesn't really matter because he's killing everyone off the tee and on the greens.

Kinda surprised he didn't hit driver on 5,7,14,18. The bunkers left on 5 are problematic, but I figure he'd try it in a practice round. I think they are like a 315 carry. Left bunkers on 18 too but I think it's a similar carry and they aren't as penal as the bunkers on 5. Can't think of much trouble on 7 or 14 off the tee.

These guys are playing a different game than the rest of us. That shot is incredible.

For the non-Bryson division, I'm going to pick Tony Finau. Top 10s galore and based on the fall timing with no fans, I'm going to pick a first-time winner.

Hard not to like Bryson or DJ. The rain should play to Bryson’s advantage, the only issues I see are that he has only 1 start since the US Open so there could be some rust and also there are no green reading books allowed. Not sure what his putting track record is at Augusta but he’s a guy that has his head buried in the books for every putt so it’s gotta be a little uncomfortable for him to not have it. DJ has been on a ridiculous run recently, he’s playing his best.

He is not really a dark horse, but I also like my binky Tyrrell Hatton. Ball striking and putting extraordinaire. Probably been the 3rd best player all year behind Bryson and DJ. He was like to10 in every strokes gained category for 2020..

Hatton was in the 1st tier of the Masters pool I'm in so they are certainly considering him one of the favorites.

Yeah, dark horse is probably the wrong word for him considering he is 9th in the OWGR. But I saw him a little further down some odds sheets this week so he doesn’t have the same buzz as a few other favorites.
