The Saints haven’t been shy about moving future assets in the past, and they’re definitely exploring doing it again today. They’ve called teams near the top of tonight’s order and continue to explore the idea of getting a pick early in the second round. The problem? The problem is they don’t have a second-round pick to move, having traded that one last year to get Erik McCoy, who was very solid as their starting center in 2019 (he’ll likely move to guard soon with first-rounder Cesar Ruiz aboard). That means the Saints would likely have to include a 2021 pick in the deal (maybe this year’s third and next year’s second?) to get there. And while this has often left New Orleans short on volume in selections, it’s also indicative of the confidence Mickey Loomis, Jeff Ireland and Sean Payton have in their ability to get it right with less margin for error. That confidence, based on track record, is justified.

• Other clubs that have talked with other teams about trading up: Denver (46), Atlanta (47) and Jacksonville (42). Clubs exploring moving down: Indianapolis and New England. The supply of tackles is starting to run a little low, and there are a bunch of corners who were projected as potential first-rounders still there (Kristian Fulton, Trevon Diggs). Either position, or even running back, could prompt some trades up.

I'm all for adding value - and I won't be shocked at all if we deal one of the 3s this year for a 2021 2nd rounder - but I think I would only want BB & friends to go as far back as Jax #42. At some point you do need to get ONE of those guys that is nearly as good as what was available at #23.

Possible trades down based on the SI article (plus a couple of others)

37/172 for 41/115 works with CLE
37/100 for 46/83/178 works with DEN
37/100 for 47/78 works with ATL
37/195 for 42/116 works with JAX

I like 37/71/100 to CHI for 43/50 - CHI didn't have a 1st rounder and doesn't have a pick between 50 and 163

For everyone speculating when Belichick might hang it up, I have a new theory:

He's not retiring until he can figure out a way to trade out of the present year's draft entirely and stockpile picks for years to come, so he can force the other teams to come groveling to him for the right to select a player who may not pan out. Once that happens, he'll just start signing all of the Rutgers O-line and D as UFA year-in and year-out until he gets bored.

I'd go to the late 40s maybe even LA at 52 (if I was also getting 57, say for 37 and 100?)
I mean I see the following as guys I'd be happy with as the first pick:
Jones
Epenesa
YGM
Shenault
Mimms
Blacklock
Higgins
Baun
Winfield
Lewis
Cleveland
Okwara
Pittman

That's 13 guys and doesn't include some guys who I didn't list because of position fit or I just don't like, but will probably go somewhere in there (Fulton, Diggs, Delpit, Chinn, Johnson, Diggs, Swift, Kmet)

Basically I want two top 75 picks, and the higher the second one is, the lower I'm willing to go on the first.

I owe the Fins fans $50 to the Jimmy fund because they fooled me with elite smoke-screens this entire off-season.

$25 if they draft Harrison Bryant tonight and only tonight. (I bet it is not happening and I don't want it to happen)

Here are reasons for charity tonight:
$50 if they draft Kmet. $25 for Asiasi
$50 if they get Pittman, Bryan Edwards, Mims, or Duvernay
$50 for Ashtyn Davis or Winnfield Jr. $25 for Burgess or X-man
$25 for Malik Harrison or Logan Wilson.
$10 if they draft Matt Peart, Ezra Cleveland, Lloyd Cushenberry, Damien Lewis, or Robert Hunt.

This includes any overlap with a certain slack channel...

The #Bengals are now listening to offers for the No. 33 pick, per sources. So the top two spots in Round 2 up for grabs, if someone is willing to pay the price to go all the way to the top.

I’m all for the Patriots getting something better than an “even” deal if the early part of this round is so stacked.

Ed: I meant trading out of 37

Whoever you guys want at #71, the Pats will draft at #37.

And then get the guy from #37 at #71.

I’m all in favor of the Bears trade.

Then I’d get on the horn with Baltimore. Trade 50, 87, 139, and 172 for 55, 60, and 92.

So 50,87, 139 on the trade chart MIGHT get you 55 and 60 it's about a 7% overpay by Baltimore. Adding 92 makes it a massive 32% overpay.

I would obviously do 50,67,139 for 55 and 60 though and it has a chance.

Without a Thuney trade, do the Pats have enough under the cap to sign more than X number of draftees this year?

Technically, I don't think so, but they have plenty of time. Other things they can do.

Tampa says they're keeping O.J. Howard, so they're probably trading him in the next hour; maybe to BB to switch #45 for #37.
That would give Tampa their choice of RB; Breer says they want Akers or Taylor, so they probably would take Swift.

No, but they won't sign the draftees for a few months so plenty of time to make trades, cuts or restructures to get the room.

Why are they waiting until 7.. its not like anyone has to rush to a bar after work. Most fans have been drinking since they woke up from last night.. or is that me?

Man, sure looks like the Pats are nicely positioned. Really excited for the day.

I'd be super happy to pull one or two among Kmet, Pitman and Baun... but plenty more to be excited about in the second half of the 2nd and into the 3rd.

The whole night is compelling tv, as you never know when the Patriots will swoop in and trade up or down.
Yeah, what’s this thing I’m feeling where I’m into something and looking forward to it? Is this excitement? Am I feeling that excitement thing?

Also, Goodell has an m&m for the soul of every child he’s murdered and another for every Patriots draft pick he’s stolen. The jar is mostly murdered kids, though.

I'll take one of the safeties, a receiver, and a front seven guy, thanks. I don't ask for much.

Hurts intrigues me, but I don't know. Unless they just love the kid, I'd rather they spend their draft capital elsewhere and get a developmental QB later.

Does the commissioner usually do Round 2? I know the NBA drops down to the Asst. Commissioner by the second round.
