Texans +340 to win the AFC South is intriguing. Colts are +120, Titans are +150. And while I agree that those are both better teams overall, the QB position matters a lot.

There is no semi-national games in the 1:00 window on CBS. It is pretty localized because of the amount of games on CBS. 1:00 Fox GB/Min is semi-national as there are only 4 games in this window on FOX.

where I was last at
About 16,000 fans to attend the game @ Arrowhead and watch the favored Chiefs (-9) start their title defense against the Texans tomorrow night.

Bigger question-- will fans beat the spread?

There's an NFL game tonight. Awesome.
I'm embarrassed by how much I'm looking forward to the season. For whatever reason none of the other leagues where able to get me excited enough to pay attention when they returned, but somehow this awful league has me drooling with anticipation.

Might be because it's the only league whose season wasn't altered. Outside of some eyebrow-raising opt-outs, their season is at 100% (YMMV on whether or not this is because the league is awful). Every other league has been altered up to the point of barely being recognizable.

I'm normally more excited for college football but I'm with you, NFL has me a little more jazzed this year.

One wonders if the season goes relatively well with no preseason games if there's a push to get rid of all of them.

Of course Clark Hunt is filling the stadium to a tad over 1/5 capacity.

Seven other teams, including, of course, Jerrah, are allowing limited fan attendance. This is mystifying, and I cannot wait for the networks to continually praise these teams for placing fan safety at the top of their priorities.

Not gonna happen. The lack of real preseason and offseason workouts is going to show all through the month of September.

You're likely right, but what if players are a bit fresher down the stretch? Might be a trade off in there. Two games?

Whatever, I'm just glad season is back.

Hard not to be fresher overall when there's an uptick in soft tissue injuries due to decreased conditioning. ;)

High school and college teams don't play preseason games. They seem to do okay.

Love Rodney's smile when Tirico reminds everyone who was the last team to repeat.

Plus, the teams (or at least the Patriots), make their season ticket holders buy tickets to the two home pre-season games at the same cost as tickets to regular season games. So no way they give up 1/5 of their yearly gate from season ticket holders.

The cradle of the game.
Tirico with the 3 paragraph explanation of what tonight's anthems mean politically according to the NFL.

No, that wasn't awkward.

Edit: But wait, there's more! Tirico and Dungy doing a segment on it! But I guess putting everything above board is important?

Most have several scrimmages under game conditions.
Hard Knocks showed NFL teams doing that. In the stadium with refs and everything.

I just think the whole "no preseason" thing is being overblown a bit. Every team is in the same boat, and it's not like these guys aren't training and working out and executing plans given to them by their teams during the offseason.

It's going to be a weird season either way, but I'm not really concerned about the lack of a preseason. If anything, I kind of like that it adds more mystery, while subtracting some preseason injuries (not that they can ever be completely avoided....sorry @j-man.)
