Yup, distancing between caddy and player is dumb. They work together in close proximity and that's the job. It's not like they're swapping caddies each round. Work on distancing each pair from the rest of the field.

It will be even more fun when people call in over night to complain that player X was too close to his/her caddy, and should have been assessed a penalty.
One of the best things about watching golf over the past couple years is that nonsense has mostly evaporated.

I would be shocked if it actually evaporated. My guess is that the Tour got smart and either began to ignore it or stopped publicizing it.

And honestly, the fact that the Tour couldn't figure out how to handle that from the outset just shows how tone-deaf the Tour has always been. The rule should have been that unless an infraction is reported by a player or an on-course rules official, it doesn't exist.

We could still kill Patrick Reed years after the fact for his blatant cheating. But if one believes that self-policing is the essence of the game (which we've heard again and again for years) you can't have assholes calling in rules violations from their living room or self-appointed scolds like Jim Nantz or Johnny Miller inserting themselves into the game.

By the way, I highly recommend the latest edition of the No Laying Up podcast, which is all about carnage - tournaments where the scores were ridiculously high and the conditions were at least borderline farcical. My favorite laugh-out-loud moment came when they were talking about the 1979 Players Championship at Sawgrass Country Club (where I used to be a member, actually), and J.C. Snead had just hit an approach into the green on a par 5 and had his straw hat blown off of his head; he chased it up the fairway, but gusts of wind carried it all the way to the green, where it came into contacted his ball and cost him a two-shot penalty.

(J.C. Snead was apparently a real dick, btw, so I'm all in favor of that anecdote. One year he played in the pro-am at the Atlanta Classic - at the course I grew up playing - and the story goes that for 17 holes he didn't say a single word to his playing partners. They actually played pretty well as a team, and on the 18th green it looked like one of the amateurs had a putt to win the tournament...at which point Snead turned to him and said, "You know, if you make this putt, I win $5,000." The amateur in question promptly swiveled around and whacked his ball into the water.)

Course looks perfect. Looks like it lets them start with a nice easy drive on the first hole

Wish Rory had someone playing with him who is talkative. You get the feeling that he's talk all match if he had a chatty opponent

Maybe it’s the shirt but DJ looks like he’s gained weight
He definitely has, it isn't the shirt.

Wolffe's swing is even weirder than it was last year. It'll be impressive if he can maintain his game over the long haul with such a herky jerky motion.

Rory, said he didn't remember how to hit a wedge 80 yards, wasn't that his problem even before this

We need less announcer, and more live Rory. Should have put a mic on Rory, and Fowler, and told them they were commentators for the match

Christ, shut up. Let me listen to the players.

The announcer has to tell us Wolff zinged DJ with a waste bunker joke. They are wearing mic’s, guys! Let us listen to them!

Where's the best place to buy the the Fowler line of golf shirts? Only seeing the today version on cobragolf.
If it includes donation to CDC, even better.

It’s amazing that NBC can still find a way to fuck this up.

deep inside Guido territory
Each player gets their own cooler. Wonder if there's beers in there for everyone except DJ? Would love to see someone break out a Bud Light as if they just went into the clubhouse and got a 6er at the turn in the ice bags.
