The course looks great and the mic'ed up commentary is actually entertaining. Tiger grilling Rose about his new driver shaft and rotation in the bunker was cool.

Feherty chirping Tiger about his calves was pretty amusing. "You need to take 3 strides before your pants move."

Agreed with everyone that this places looks phenomenal.

I had never heard of it until Phil played the Champions Tour event a few weeks ago. Everything I've seen so far looks fantastic.

Gary Player is so full of himself.

I've never been to Big Cedar specifically, but my wife is from the area, and her family still lives there. It really is a beautiful part of the country.

Sergio stuffs his approach on 18 - the hardest hole on the golf course - and rolls in the birdie to cap a tidy 67 and a win albeit over a pretty weak field. Apparently he putted with his eyes closed all week.

The putt Sergio made on 18 was about the same length as the one Fleetwood missed on the first playoff hole that gave the win to Aaron Rai in Scotland.

The usual Asian swing kicks off this afternoon in Vegas. Good field on tap at the CJ Cup which was moved to Shadow Creek for this year. 8 of the top 10 in the world are playing, and one of the missing is DJ who has the Rona. I didn't see Webb listed on the tee sheet but nobody cares about him anyway and the golf is a better place when he's not playing.

Tyrrell Hatton has been on a crazy good run the last calendar year or so. Doesn't play a ton and bounces between Europe and the PGA Tour, but he's arguably been the best player in the world going back to last fall.

He has 3 wins, 4 top 10;s and 2 top 25's in his last 13 starts. Big boy wins too, Bay Hill and the BMW PGA (European Tour equivalent to The Players). Currently has the lead in Vegas.

I have days where it seems I'll never miss a putt. He's had a year like that. And, since I seem to have a new tag line, he's the anti-Bryson. He's like 5'8" and has a clubhead speed of around 115.

Mickelson is 2-2 on the Champions Tour.
He just fell out of the Top 50 in the world, and while starting to miss a lot of cuts also had a handful of Top 5 finishes this year. He's capable of playing elite golf just not week to week. Good Phil vs. the senior field isn't much of a fair match.

Also new to the Champions Tour this year is Furyk. He's already won twice as well. I kind of get the same grinder vibe from him that Langer gives off.

Imagine your competition is Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas and Rory McIlroy.

And then overnight it's Kenny Perry, Mike Weir, Dicky Pride, and Colin Montgomrie.

Phil should be in the running to win every week, if he wants.

I think Phil was a prime candidate for the PGL if that ever came to fruition. He's too good for the Champions Tour, not good enough for the PGA Tour anymore. He's made 34 starts since his last win and is creeping up on a 50% missed cut rate, having missed 15. He also only has 2 PGA Tour top 10's during that time frame, as well as one other top 10 on the Euro Tour (the Saudi Arabia event where he just so happened to be rubbing elbows with some PGL investors),

I think he easily would've taken the PGL's money as a player/owner. Much more lucrative for him than the Champions Tour. Not sure if the PGL is dead at this point but I haven't heard much about it since before the pandemic.

Worlds End
And speaking of Phil, the Match 3 is a go. No venue yet, but it's going to be on Black Friday with proceeds benefiting black colleges. Tiger is out, the match will be Phil, Steph Curry, Peyton Manning and Charles Barkley. I'd assume the teams are Phil/Chuck and Steph/Peyton.
I heard its going to be at Phil's course in AZ, Stone Canyon.

Of course Phil is still good enough for the regular PGA Tour. He's just not good enough to compete for wins very often, but even as a regular PGA Tour pro, he probably would make a very nice living. In just 16 events in 2020, he finished #60 in money earned at $1.5 million. That was a number that was ahead of such players as Spieth, Koepka, Fleetwood, Rose, Fowler, Snedeker, McDowell, Z Johnson, Glover, Garcia, Cabrera Bello, Willett, etc.

And Phil has already won 750k on the Champions tour. The dude gets paid.

edit - Els has the highest earnings on the CT in 2020, with 1.359 million earned. 11 events. Phil is over halfway there in 2. Solid.

He had 2 great weeks, Pebble and the WGC FedEx St. Jude. He was 3rd and T2, which will bank you a lot of money, particularly the WGC which has a higher purse than the regular events. He's won at Pebble 5 times so seems like an event he'll continue to do well at. The 2nd at the St. Jude is more of an outlier. Those 2 events are 2 of his 3 top 10's over the past 2 seasons (3rd was in Saudi Arabia). He's approaching a 50% missed cut rate. He's fallen to 58 in the world rankings which means he's teetering on not qualifying for the free money, free points WGC's as well as the US Open. He's still a short game wizard (13th in SG around the green) but he's losing strokes off the tee (108th), on approach (129) and putting (124th). That's not really a recipe for continued success.

I love watching the guy play, and I'm sure we'll see him pop up at Pebble and Augusta still but I think he's pretty much done as a competitive PGA tour player.

(now watch him win this week at the Zozo).

It doesn't matter if you miss a ton of cuts as long as you play well in a handful of tournaments. You're still going to make money on the PGA Tour. He's still much better than a TON of guys on the PGA Tour right now. He's no longer an elite PGA Tour player, obviously. But he's better than a lot of guys still.

Zozo on tap today. Another good field which includes Eldrick, the defending champ. Could be his only live fire tuneup before Augusta, though he said he was considering playing the Houston Open in 2 weeks. That's the week before the Masters though and he's been avoiding playing back-to-back's for a while now. Houston is also supposed to have fans back so that's probably another reason to skip it. Mickelson said he probably wouldn't play it if the fans are allowed. Imagine Phil or Tiger getting the Rona from some no mask, spit spraying Baba Booey asshole and then having to miss the Masters?

Anywho, featured groups today:

Rahm.Rose/Hidecki
Tiger/Wolff/Xander
JT/Morikawa/Reed
Phil/Rory/Webb
