Kinda, but only because I live here now and want the quality of baseball to improve. The roster has all kinds of problems, and he's unlikely to get a huge budget from ownership to tackle them. I know nothing of the farm - any good place to get educated on it?

what also sucks for the Pirates is their best trade chip, Vazquez, lost all value by being a pervert

Ehh is the narrative here that cherington was a genius that got screwed by the owners? He made some pretty horrendous trades. Maybe he can be a competent gm but he doesn’t seem like a genius

There farm system is abysmal, they are looking at a rebuild of at least 5 years. It could be sped up by trading Marte, Archer (not that he has much value), and signing some players (they legit didn’t sign a single major league player last year).

Cherington drafted and developed talent but missed on high priced signings like Hanley and Panda (which might have been forced on him). I believe if ownership had left him alone they might not have won in 2018 but would have a brighter future. I’m thrilled he is being given a chance in Pittsburgh and I hope he doesn’t have much interference so he can build the Pirates into championship contenders.

Cherington's biggest gaffe was Rusney Castillo rather than the trades, no?
His trades were not the issue as he hit on as many if not more than he missed on. It was the signings that were the issue and I believe the ownership forced some on him.

His worst signings were
1.) not resigning Lester in ST
2.) Panda
3.) Han Ram
4.). Rusney

Lester was great his first two years in Chicago but hasn't been anything special since, just 5.4 total bWAR for 2017-2019 combined.
