I will...if I become a quadriplegic and they set a TV a foot from my face and set up a contraption that doesn’t allow me to turn my head...or shut my eyes.

Robert Edwards was 21 years ago and I'll not stop thinking about it.
I was explaining to my young cousin about him the other day. I could only find a grainy YouTube video of the event and his reaction was basically what the hell were they doing. It's amazing how truly dumb that event was. Tragic.

Yeah, totally insane. The severity of it was shocking. Amputaion was on the table as a real possiblilty for a while.

At the time, this was truly devastating. It was getting apparent Bledsoe was not a superhero who could single-handedly carry the Pats to playoff runs like it appeared was his track. In fact if I recall, this was the season he missed the final couple games of the season and the playoff game due to that hideous finger injury. A rookie runner like Edwards gave hope of a balanced offense and Drew not being a lame duck in the pocket.

After the leg injury I was preparing for the contention window to close for a decade, like the gap between the '86 Super Bowl to the mid '90s renaissance.

This thread made me curious about whatever happened to Robert Edwards, after the cruel blow he suffered at that dumb beach football game. Answer is... all things considered, it seems pretty good.

My internet sleuthing revealed that after stringing along what had to be a disappointing football career with stops in Miami and Canada, Edwards returned to Georgia and became a high school coach. Over the last 10 years, he's bumped up to schools of increasing quality and success. In 2019, he coached the AAAAA Riverwood Raiders to an 11-0 regular season record, before bowing out to Dutchtown in the playoffs.
