The Raiders stadium is pretty much complete and we have now Seen some views of the stadium from the air and it looks like they are playing in a Giant Roomba in the middle of the desert
31036
Roomba missed a golden marketing opportunity for naming rights to the stadium.

Also if the Raiders underperform the “sucking/cleaning” jokes will write themselves

The secondary market for tickets for games that there's a pretty decent chance won't be played in front of fans for Raiders tickets this year is absolutely insane, $1100 average per ticket.

"Cleaning up in Las Vegas" might also work as a thread title.

There are over 25K spots associated with the stadium, 15K within walking distance. Only 2.5K are on site. The rest have a bus network that links them to the stadium.

Of course none of that matters because the casinos are going to sell tailgating events in their parking lots that will probably be the focus points of pre-game fun and entertainment.

https://www.allegiantstadium.com/plan-your-visit/parking-transportation

It's pretty cool that the Raiders were the losers of the race to LA, and here they are with a state of the art stadium coming in on budget, on time (ahead of kroenke world) and all to themselves.

As you noted, it's likely all moot, but I can tell you this sounds a lot better on paper than in practice; just take in a game at FedEx sometime.

"Closer Than It Looks" is an understatement for the optical illusion called The Strip. The "walk" to the closest In-n-Out before they finally put one in the High Roller district was a pedestrian death wish... that was worth it.
This is true but this is off the strip - so it’s a little different.

When a walkway exists over the 15 (assuming that’s what they’re doing), it won’t be too bad to walk there.

Mandalay Place (the shops that connect Luxor and Mandalay Bay) spans Hacienda Ave which has a flyover of the 15 and dumps off directly in front of Allegiant stadium. It would be a no-brainer for Mandalay to develop some type of people mover that originates in their shops and runs down the middle of Hacienda, assuming they can get city approval but the city should want this to ease traffic and parking concerns.

At least initially, the plan appears to be for Hacienda to be that walkway. From allegiantstadium.com site:

"The Hacienda Ave. overpass will close to automobile traffic approximately five hours prior to game time. The road closure will create a safe and fun opportunity to walk with other fans from the Las Vegas Strip corridor to Allegiant Stadium."

And they will have all their fans from LA heading up I -15 every home game. Davis absolutely won this game of relocation chess.

I've assumed this had to be the idea for months, because it makes too much sense, but haven't heard anything about it. Even with a walkway, that's not exactly going to be a fun walk during the day in August or September.

It’s certainly, uh, intimidating in an “did aliens land?” kind of way. Reminds me a bit of Minny’s football stadium.

It looks a bit out of place in Vegas, unless it’s near the Luxor I guess.

It's...an NFL stadium. Why would you want black seats in Vegas with a glass roof?
Why would the Raiders want almost everything in the stadium to be black? I'm gonna ask you to think on that one for a bit.

The roof isn't glass, by the way, it is a plastic polymer. Here are some good pictures from the inside showing how much light it the roof lets into the stadium:

View: https://twitter.com/mickakers/status/1263642641930960896

The Team crushed their projections for PSL sales, hitting almost $549M.

The Raiders’ proceeds from the sale of personal seat licenses at Allegiant Stadium continues to smash original estimates and has now climbed to $549 million. Initial estimates by the team projected PSL sales would generate around $250 million.
Which gives us a bunch of new toys while watching the games:

All the proceeds from the PSL sales are being infused into the nearly $2 billion stadium now under construction. New features such as additional suites, a 26,000-square-foot field-level club, upgraded fixtures and enhanced internet connection are among the upgrades the added revenue has allowed
Being able to actually get on the internet during a game will be pretty fucking great. Couldn't do that in Oakland. Well, except that one time in 2016 when I was able to get in here to shit talk you guys about three plays before Carr broke his leg.

I think the environmental control will keep that from being too big of an issue.

On the subject of environmental control, it will be interesting to see when they open the Lanai doors on the north end of the stadium, both from the standpoint of what it does to the environmental control system and how the open doors affect the noise level in the stadium.

Looks really slick actually. Las Vegas residents must be rapt.
I have no opinion on it either way.

The Knights were built for Vegas and were a tremendous thing for the city. But I’m not sure how a team that is as popular nationwide (or unpopular in places) will fare. It feels like it might be a tourist team, andnot our team.

The Knights also went to the finals in their first year, cementing its status in LV as a fun and joyful team to root for.

If the Raiders win, they will certainly be embraced. That's what winning does.

Has there been a good estimate on how many CA Raiders fans will trek to Vegas to see them play?

I'm sure the Raiders will create new local fans in Vegas too, but won't they still have a substantial number of existing fans showing up?

Edit: I'm pretty sure this has been discussed before and I'm repeating/covering old ground. Sorry.

Weren't the fans pretty pissed they left? How much could they possibly bank on making it a Raiders trip, as opposed to going to Vegas during other times of the year when flights are likely cheaper?

I think there are a lot of Raiders fans (particularly in southern CA) that will regularly make the trip.

Edit: I don't see the Raiders as a particularly Oakland-centric team. Tons of fans all over CA. Even outside LA and Oakland, there were lots where I lived in central CA.

Are they ever going to build that train from LA to Vegas? McCarran is kind of a crap airport and Vegas traffic is always rough. I can’t imagine the overflow from a bunch of people flying or driving in and out for a game.

correct. Rams and chargers have had lots of trouble selling their SSL’s while the Raiders have not had this issue.

what’s more :
What's more, a "fair amount" of the Raiders SSL buyers live in L.A. and will hop on I-15 on weekends, an executive with knowledge of the sales says. It has left a few owners and team officials worried and irritated that the Raiders have siphoned off part of an already wary L.A. fan base.

“Out of the 64,000 seats we’ve sold, about 10% have been purchased out of L.A.,” said Davis, referring to the new stadium. “So we’re looking at 6,500 people [from the L.A. area] that will be coming on a weekly basis, and a lot more on a game-by-game basis.”

I think the correct play for Sunday Raider's game would be to leave So.Cal. Sunday AM and drive. Attend the game, stay in a nice hotel with the cheap Sunday night rates and drive back on Monday. No traffic either way.
Flying to Las Vegas from LA or Orange County is always dicey. Several times I have flown and regretted it. Would have been faster and cheaper to drive. If you can't get Monday off, flying might be the only choice.

I don't really understand the love affair LA has with the Raiders who abandoned them, but it is real. Lots of fans I know made the trip up to Oakland on Sundays. Southwest airlines. Las Vegas will be easier I would think.

I don't think they will ever build a rail line. Too much red tape and environmental issues. And billions in cost. (Not to mention being trapped on a train with several hundred Raider fans if they ever do build it) . Yikes.

Yeah, the Raiders have casinos buying tickets for their high rollers, so I'm not shocked they had less trouble selling out. 10% from LA still leaves 90% that aren't "fans" of the Raiders. It's not about selling the stadium out it's that it will be like a Super Bowl, where there really is no true fanbase inherent (hypothetically).

Davis should advertise like hell in L.A. as just desserts for having been fucked over.

I’m trying to think whether I, as a Vegas lover, would attend a football game there for the hell of it. Obviously if the Patriots were playing. I guess Saturday night games could be fun, but I wouldn’t image I’d be up in Vegas on a Sunday for an early game, and even the afternoon games would be shaky.

I suppose it’s a thing to do, but there’s just so much else going on I don’t know if it’ll be a huge random tourist draw.

Yes, well kind of, it's going to go from Vegas to somewhere that's like 30 miles north of LA which I feel like somewhat defeats the purpose, but I guess it's cheaper that way to build. They've been working on figuring out the funding plans, they decided on the company to build it, but it's still at least several years away.

It's reported that Victorville will be the starting point. That's a boondoggle for sure. The worst part of the drive is from LA to Victorville on a Friday night. No one will be on that train unless they live in Victorville.

Yeah that's the one, though I forgot how far away it is, actually way more than 30 miles. Being that far away seems like it should have been a total non starter for anyone actually going to or coming from LA itself

Anecdotally, most raider fans I know claim they’ll still support the team and fly in once in a while, with a handful literally talking about “‘maybe I should get a condo in Vegas!”

Only two have said they’ll wash their hands of the team. Interestingly, I know a born and bred San Franciscan who disowned the 9ers and started rooting for the Saints when the 9ers moved to Santa Clara. (He has some ties to New Orleans, but still)

I know that when they sold PSLs in theory they prioritized selling to Raider fans if possible. I have a friend in LA that's a big Raiders fan and I went to the meeting when he bought his seats and the guy said they were trying to avoid selling too many that would end up with visiting fans.

They told us the same thing at both of our meetings. The process of having to go to the ticket meetings at the Raiders ticket sales center in Vegas to get a PSL probably dissuaded quite a few non Raider fans from buying in. Our Oakland ticket agent repeated the same lines, and we were given a good priority based on our accrued Oakland priority, we had first row seats in Oakland and were guaranteed an opportunity to buy the same quality of seat in Vegas.

Yeah, the Raiders have casinos buying tickets for their high rollers, so I'm not shocked they had less trouble selling out. 10% from LA still leaves 90% that aren't "fans" of the Raiders. Gotta link or source for the bolded?

You have an additional 12% (7+K) of the seats filled by people like us who were Oakland season ticket holders, the majority of whom don't live in Los Angeles, plus 33K sold to buyers in Nevada. So somewhere around 50K to Raider fans and about 5K to investors, with the other 10K seats not assigned to PSLs and having sold out in less than a day. The Raider fan base has always been spread wide and far across California and the west, they won't have any trouble filling the seats with supporters. Though with today's secondary ticket market there are certain to be more visiting fans that we saw in the dump in Oakland.

Those with PSLs control about 90%, he said, of available seating in what will be a 65,000-seat stadium. Badain said that about 60% of total PSL sales were to Nevada residents.

Much of the remaining 40% went to California — the franchise has called Oakland and Los Angeles home over the decades — residents, though neighboring states like Utah, Arizona and New Mexico were also well represented, Badain said.
The Raiders sold PSLs for 55,000 of the 65,000 seats at Allegiant Stadium, ranging in price from $500 for the cheap seats to $75,000 for primo locations. About 33,000 PSL buyers are from Nevada and about 7,000 are fans who had season tickets in Oakland. Many PSL owners are from elsewhere in the United States and plan to use NFL tickets in Las Vegas for business and entertainment purposes. The cache of seeing the NFL in the Entertainment Capital of the World made PSLs valuable, although whether there’s still high demand to visit a 65,000-seat stadium after the COVID-19 pandemic wreaked havoc on the world remains to be seen.

I do wonder how many of the local buyers are people expecting to secondary market their tickets most of the time.

Probably a lot because the market is going to be insane, at least the first year, though part of the PSL pitch did include them asking people where they lived and how many games they actually planned on going to to try and limit that, no idea if they actually rejected people who they suspected would sell more.

I have friends that bought 4 PSLs at the lower end of the range. They intend to keep two for themselves and sell the other two in the secondary market.

They did this with the hockey team and made quite a profit.
