Exactly. Like, Darlington almost certainly just read a piece about Brady’s contract status, cap stuff and so forth and dropped it in.

That’s literally the extent of Reiss’s involvement here. There is no “buying in.”
I agree.

I tweeted at Reiss to basically ask gun to his head, as of today, is Brady on the Pats in 2020. No response yet.

I blocked Schefter months ago. He lost me for good with the whole Antonio Brown saga.

I'll believe something with Brady when words come out of the mouth of him Kraft or BB.

When Reiss says something you can't dismiss it as mere noise. Fortunately, Mookie prepared us for some of this kind of drama.

I want Brady to be here until he doesn't want to play any more, even if it means the team has to watch others hoist the trophy for a couple of years. But if he leaves I'm starting to feel like maybe I'll be ok with it quicker than I would have thought. In fact, ruminating about him going to a team that will play the Patriots this year or next, while not exactly fun, is interesting. I hope we kick the shit out of him, and I kind of look forward to yelling at the screen, "for fuck's sake that's all of the sudden not intentional grounding"?
When Brady goes to another team, SOSH can shift into a weekly battle of I Told You So between those who think Belichick was the A#1 reason for the Pats' run, and those who think Brady was.

Week one...Brady's new team loses: "Haha, see, it was all Belichick..." rinse and repeat for 17 weeks plus (maybe) playoffs.

So we have that to look forward to.

On the flip side, while I would be as sad as anyone if Brady left, who on this board wouldn't like to see Brady vs. Belichick in SBLV? I mean, seriously!
This is literally the LAST thing I would ever want to see. Like my parents getting divorced, Dad remarrying Emily Ratajkowski and Mom remarrying Brad Pitt, and then seeing the four of them get in a huge fight at Thanksgiving.

Well, second-to-last...but I'll leave that for V&N.

The CBA rationale for the lack of engagement between the Pats and Brady makes some sense. Both sides, and particularly the Pats, need to know how much cap room they have.

That said, if both sides were motivated to get something done or to at least explore the possibility, I would think that some preliminary conversations, including with respect to duration could take place. I would also think that they could both make some assumptions about where the CBA will end up and agree to finalize once things have clarified. On the other hand, I do appreciate that "hypothetical negotiations" are not easy, to say the least. I just wonder if the CBA is as complete of an answer as it appears.

Somewhat unrelated: I have no idea how credible Jeff Darlington is and whether to ascribe anything to his report. I had a similar reaction to Seth Wickersham and his article a few years ago. If Darlington is just about attention gathering, well he achieved that. And I guess he can back away later by saying that Brady must have had a change of heart. But that's a pretty big limb he's out on. Knowing more about his credibility would be interesting.

stop paying attention to it. It seems evidently clear the stories are making themselves up for clicks. All these guys know nothing more than anyone here.

lol, ABC national news just ran the ESPN story Brady intends to go to FA.

The news industry really is something.

In many ways it makes sense. This thread is full of scenarios showing how unlikely it is that the Pats will be able to: 1. pay Brady and 2. restock the team.

If he leaves, it's likely because Belichick sees something in Stidham. Plus we know for sure that Brady will not be under center in 3 years in New England.

The sourcing on "very close" to Brady is potentially telling. We know Brady keeps a very tight inner circle. "Very close" is likely Edelman, Guerrero, Yee, or Giselle.
You're buying the anonymous "very close source"...? OK. Hey dude I have some ocean front property in Arizona, you interested?

still find it odd how this went from "lols old man brady is washed up" to "omfg hottest free agent in sports history" in a span of (literally) days.

this as in the media narrative, specifically.

I kind of don’t care at this point.

It’s kind of SB or bust at this point with the Patriots. We have an okayish shot at maybe winning one more with him. I don’t think he wins or does super well on another team.

Either way, it’s over for the Brady Pats in a year or two, I’m kind of excited to see what’s next or ready to stop giving too much of a damn about the NFL and focus on the exciting young teams the Bruins and Celtics have put together.

Curran with a piece on this. Some excerpts:

As I’ve reported, this isn’t about money for Brady. It’s about removing the feeling that he’s only here because a better option hasn’t yet emerged. Everybody else agrees he’s the GOAT. Meanwhile, he feels like a lame duck.

Inevitably, that's led to Brady envisioning himself listening to offers from teams that don’t look at him as a handsome roll of human duct tape.
Kraft agreed to Brady’s request to have the potential 2020 franchise tag removed from the Patriots' arsenal because Kraft didn’t want Brady feeling trapped against his wishes. Kraft felt that, after a couple of decades of unprecedented success, Brady deserved to have that wish granted.

Meanwhile, Kraft has been (contrary to perception) hands-off when it comes to Brady. Belichick knows what’s best for the football team. It’s demonstrated. If Belichick wants to go year-to-year with Brady – even if Brady is pissed about that – that’s what they are going to do.

Kraft didn’t intercede when it came time to trade Jimmy Garoppolo – the owner stridently denies that – but the belief he did has led to an unrealistic expectation he’ll swoop in to make sure Brady stays.

He won’t. If the two sides are close, he’ll do everything he can to get a deal done. But he’s not interceding.

It's the same for literally every athlete, everywhere.

It’s a little different for a guy who’s played 20 years and literally accomplished more than any other athlete in his sport tho, no?

I don’t necessarily think Brady is leaving – but I do think there’s maybe some motivation to seeing what else is out there after everything he’s done.

If this is what Brady really thinks he is pretty stupid, and I don't think he is stupid, so this just reads like more spin to me. How exactly are the Patriots supposed to "remove the feeling" that he won't be the Pats QB for all time? If Curran is just making the point that Brady wants maximum security in the form of a multi-year contract that makes it harder to cut or trade him, well, sure, but (a) we knew that already and (b) literally any other athlete in his position would be seeking the same thing.

The pitch should include the plans and model of Brady’s own hall of accomplishments at Patriot Place, including a 50 foot statue, 300+ TVs streaming every game he’s played, and TB12 store/training center. Invite fans to a rally with free beer. Play to legacy aspect.

Certainly was back in the summer when he got a bump. He also wanted more real money in his contract after SB51 instead he got incentives.
Yeah, I’m guessing that Kraft didn’t walk into Belichick’s office and say, hey Bill let ‘s give Tom $9 million for nothing. He ultimately did it, but it’s hard to believe that wasn’t a conversation begun, at least in some form or fashion, by Yee/Brady.

Yeah, exactly. Brady can't be so obtuse to think he won't be a lame duck/short term option wherever he goes. That's the reality for a 43 year old player. If he leaves, it'll be because somebody else offered him a bigger, last pay day, or because he's grown weary of BB's coaching style. As a side note, Curran is yet another once solid information guy who's fallen prey to the content monster always needing to be fed.

Let's rewind to about last summer.

Camp Brady: I'm going to be a free agent next spring.
BB:

Camp Brady: I will be making visits to other teams.
BB:

Camp Brady: I'm putting my house up for sale.
BB:

Camp Brady: I've emptied out my locker.
BB:

Camp Brady: My kids are enrolled in new schools.
BB:

Camp Brady: The Chargers need to make a high-profile move in the LA market.
BB:

Camp Brady: I had a terrific conversation with the owner of the Raiders.
BB:

Camp Brady: Mike Vrabel and I have a great relationship from our playing days.
BB:

I didn't include the social media stuff, and I know I forgot some other items. This multi-faceted messaging/negotiating campaign Camp Brady has been engaged in these many months is actually kind of comical. I do hope he stays with the Pats, however.

Thought I edited that insight in. Regardless, I haven’t thought about that movie outside of the Seinfeld episode pretty much since it came out.

I'm putting a tweet in spoilers. Because I really don't believe it, and I don't really know why the account would have this, although they have 50,000 followers and supposedly have inside info on things happening in Vegas.

So, I'm posting it more for entertainment value.

They can't make an offer and have Brady take it to the Patriots now, can they? When does the "legal" tampering begin?
