To go from possibly not having a season to witnessing the Tompa Bay + Cam sagas is quite delicious.
It really is...........................Cam is an incredibly easy person to like, I am hoping he plays well enough for the organization to want to sign him long term.

"“I never even had to ask Bill [Belichick], he’d just send an intern my way to debrief me. Bruce hasn’t said anything about it yet, but I need to hunker down in the film room with the exact plays and audibles that the defense is running. It takes a while to memorize all that, so hopefully coach sends some tape my way soon.” At press time, Brady decided to fly his own cameraman to film the Panther’s practice after a terse meeting with Arians."

Sounds like things are going along swimmingly for Tom down in Tompa.

I thought it best to express a mea culpa vs being myopic.

I'm growing as a person and I've got SOSH to thank for it.

So there you have it.
I knew it was the onion but missed that he wanted the other teams practice tape which was the true lol...if I had missed the onion part on the first read I would have believed it as well.

The "terse meeting with Arians" is what really sucked me in; again, seems about right for what's going on down there now.................

I thought the whole Brady v. Arians thing was overblown but it doesn't seem like a complete nothing-burger either:

There's always a risk some offhand remark gets overblown, so I hear where you are coming from. But in this case, with two decades of knowledge of how Brady works, I think it was pretty foreseeable this would be "something." How big, I think that's really really hard to know and I don't think we'll learn very much in-season---I think there's zero examples of Brady getting public about that. But we might learn more later....and of course, we don't know if it will continue or if Arians will change his typical open approach at least as to Brady.

I hopeBrady comes back with a great game and the Saints are a great team and everyone realizes he started the season with his biggest challenge after no pre-season.

I certainly don’t want his career overshadowed with questions of his legitimacy outside of Bill’s bubble.

May I ask why? It's always been a question during his career. Maybe Brady wanted to prove the opposite by going to Tampa. If he fails there he opened himself up to the questions.

If Brady fails in Tampa, an overwhelming majority of knowledgeable fans and pundits will attribute the failure to Tom being 43. He is still a guaranteed first ballot entry.

Right. Who cares what other less informed fans think. They're the same mouthbreathers that believe DFG was real.

Just curious how everyone felt while watching TB12 last week. If possible, mods, we could add this poll to the existing Tompa thread?

Personally was pretty sure (but not 100%) I would root against him going in, and I did end up rooting against him. In terms of the poll, I voted for planned to root against / did root against, even if I wasn't 100% sure.

At home
I'd love to see him be tremendously successful this year, voted MVP, and for Tampa Bay to fall just short despite his superhuman play.

I rooted for him. I want him to do well. I think Cam is a better fit with their offensive personnel this year (and last year too) BUT I still love Brady. He is and always will be the guy I think of when I hear the word quarterback.

Voted planned on voting for, ended up against. Probably more accurate that I found myself rooting against Tampa than against Tom himself. I don't want Tom to be completely terrible or to get hurt or anything like that, but I really found myself turned off by the premature self-congratulatory tone I was getting from the Tampa camp.

Rooting for him. I don't understand rooting against him, he gave the Patriot's 20 years of GOAT play and never demanded to be the top paid QB, and it's probably better off for the Patriots that he has moved on. I can understand not caring about how he does elsewhere, but rooting against him seems weird to me.

I can't stand Arians though, so I'm not really too invested in the Buccs success.

I rooted for him. Love Brady. Don't love him on another team, but oh well. I'd never root for him to beat the Patriots, but against the Saints, of course. He's also my starting fantasy QB so I have another motive as well, full disclosure.

Planned on rooting for him, drafted him in FF even, and then watched the game and enjoyed seeing him have the same issues on a new team. Followed that up by loving his coach throwing him under the bus (incorrectly so which made it even better).

I more don't want him to perform bad, but for Tampa to perform badly so he can realize that he may not have gotten the star treatment here, but it was for a reason.

Eh, I don't need Brady to be humbled. I hope he throws for 5,000 yards and 40 TDs.

I'm rooting for him to dominate. I love him as a player and everything he did for the Pats. I'm totally understanding of that fact that a change was necessary and am very excited about CN1 and how he looked for us last week. I'll root for Brady and the Bucs every week unless it's a game that directly effects our seeding/situation.

Rooting for Tom heavily in AFC matchups. Pretty neutral in NFC matchups. He’s also my fantasy QB so always want the stats.

With that said, have never liked Arians so watching this team flame out would be modestly entertaining for me.

Because he's 43 and this isn't normal Brady.
I'm not saying he's not First Ballot, but the "Peyton is better" stuff will almost certainly crop back up. He EXCELLED when he went to a different team at the end of his career. Etc. etc.

Time will stop that, but until then - it'll be a topic.

I voted that I planned on rooting for, but rooted against although as someone else mentioned up thread, it was really more accurately that I was just rooting against the Bucs, as there was so much pre-season hype, and I despise Arians.

That being said, if I am honest, there was something oddly satisfying seeing Cam and Pats win, and the TB and TB lose (albeit against a FAR tougher team).

Brady is a God to me, and as far as I am concerned based on the sheer amount of joy he provided me the past 20 years, there is no way I could truly root against him. Well, except in the Pats/TB Super Bowl this year.

I can't really put my finger on why. I love the guy. Fully planned on being a Tampa guy this year. But when the game started, it slowly shifted and I found myself rooting for the Saints and I absolutely hate the Saints. I guess it's some bitterness? I also rooted against Ray Bourque when he left the Bruins for some unexplained reason.

Eh. If that happens he brought it upon himself.

I root for the laundry, and Tom's now wearing the wrong one. And I would be lying if I said I wouldn't enjoy watching Tom struggle away from BB, and BB continuing to win without TB.

Yeah, this is about where I am at, but with Bourque I more just felt pathetic caring about the Avs.

I was not sure if I was going to root for or against Brady, but I am certainly moving on from finding his peccadillos amusing and silly to now finding them outlandish and well worthy of derision. When I turned the game on, I did not make a decision to root for NO, I just was rooting for them. So it goes.

If this poll doesn't say everything about this board and Boston fandom in general nothing does. Fellowship of the miz, indeed.

I planned on rooting for him and ended up feeling bad for him. So I guess in a round about way I was still rooting for him.

Not the final season he didn't. In his age 39 season Manning threw 9 TDs and 17 INTs and had a passer rating of 67.9.

In his age 39 season Brady threw 28 TDs and 2 INTs, with rating of 112.2.

The Manning argument is dead and buried for all time.

The two athletes that I'm most grateful to have watched the last 20 years were Brady and David Ortiz. They have made so many deposits in my bank of sports watching joy that rooting for them to fail is not close to an option.
