Tourney kicks off on Thursday in the Czech Republic.

John Beecher and Curtis Hall made the US roster, Lauko was cleared from his concussion and is playing for the tournament host Czech team.

I have an NHL.tv app subscription, which I use to watch other games. All the folks seem to suggest I can watch this USA-Canada game via the app. I am not seeing it. Am I supposed to find it in a submenu? I may have to give TSN some cash just to watch this thing. (edit: can't do that - poop)

The move Zegras(?) made to gather the puck to be able to make the pass on the second goal was absurd.
Great hands, great play. His dad is a good buddy of mine, so I was happy to see that. I was surprised he didn't get more ice time, guessing it was a result of all the special teams play. I thought Knight was a little shaky...no reaction saves-the puck either hit him, or it didn't. Maybe it was a case of nerves, but it definitely seemed like things sped up on him a little bit out there. LaFreniere looks like he is the real deal.

Monster game from Zegras today, with 4 helpers vs Germany. Dustin Wolf played very well in net for the US as well. Im guessing Sandelin will keep the rotation going and go back to Knight vs Russia, but something to keep an eye on in a short tournament.

Canada is getting gutted, down 6-0 after 2 to Russia. As if that weren’t bad enough, Alex LaFreniere went down with a nasty knee injury.

That was fucking stupid though. I fall far from what the generally accepted image of Patriotism is, but is it hard to have a little respect? I find it hard to believe there was any meaningful stance being taken here- it was clearly either arrogance or some idiotic attempt at gamesmanship. I don’t think the kid should get suspended or anything, nor should he be harassed by righteous Canadians, but team Canada should really ask if that’s the image they want leading their team.

Who’s doing PBP for the US games? You can tell they’re not there and is just in great contrast to the broadcast of the Canada-Russia game yesterday with the TSN(?) people.

Not sure who head guy is but the color guy is Dave Starman, who i think is terrible. Pretty sure they are there though...

I was watching the Canada v Germany game this am, and they were talking about the best lines in World Junior history...a ton to chose from, but Canada's Bergeon-Crosby-Perry probably takes it. In 89, the US had a line of Modano-Roenick-LeClair, and Russia had Bure-Fyodorov-Mogilny that same year. All pretty unreal.

USA/Czech game is wild. 3-3 mid 3rd, goal waived off that probably should have counted (goalie interference) for the Czechs followed by one that shouldn't have counted (pushing USA stick out of reach) on the PP.

That was pretty blatant goalie interference-the guy elbowed Knight directly in the head as he skated by.

Great win today. Great to get a goal from Caufield in the end. Need more production from him and Wahlstrom in the next round. Would love to see the Czechs take down Canada tomorrow for us to lock up the 1 seed.

Shot was going to beat Knight regardless of contact, wasn't the wrong call but thought it would stand as a goal. The PP goal after the USA defenseman's stick was pushed out of the way pissed me off.

Had to drive my dad to the train station and missed the winner. Glad they came back and get to advance.

Canada pouring it on here vs the Czechs, up 4-0 with them left in the first. This Czech team is getting absolutely decimated with injuries, with both their # 1 and #2 goalie out with injuries. It looks like the US will have the 2 seed in group B and be facing the Swiss.

And how tough can the Swiss really be?

Have you seen their outfits?

Tough draw the whole way through for the US. Not coming away with points in a winnable game vs Canada cost them the 1 seed and forced them into a real tough matchup with Finland. Little to no production from one of their best players in Wahlstrom hurt big time. This team is far better than how they went out.

That was about as bush league as I’ve ever seen at the end of a game. Wahlstrom hacks at a kids wrists, then elbows him in the head with :02 left. Embarrassing.

Russia earned their berth to the final with a 5-4 OT win over Sweden while Canada blanked the Finns 5-0.

Man that deflection was close to the cross bar. No way they could over turn the goal call, but that’s as close as it gets.

Not a fan of the IIHF rules. So many penalties takes some flow out of the game and turns it into total special teams battle. The Russian goalie has been outstanding. The save on the saucer pass was outstanding.

Canada gets one back to make it 3-2 Russia. Pending review. It hit his shin not his foot so I don’t see how they overturn it.

And that should do it.

Or maybe not.

Quick question, would USA hockey parents, generally a white blue-collar conservative lot, be hoping for Russia now?
