Clear as day. He looked down, saw the man, looked back up while throwing a shoulder to make it look accidental

That one was weaker but Jota gave him the chance to go down and make it look like a penalty. This ref has completely lost control of the game

A very entertaining game … Liverpool lucky to get the three points.
Unfortunate result for Atletico. The Griezmann red was harsh, but Atletico almost made it to the end if not for Hermoso's bone-headed decision.

Thanks to Porto, Atletico aren't in bad shape after three matches. Ideally, Milan can win or tie the next game, especially given the possibility of Atletico not winning in Anfield.

Wow, don't expect that on the away ground....cue the LiVARpool calls, sigh
I'm not asking to be annoying -- I honestly don't know. Many Atletico fans on Twitter are saying that the referee should not have been able to review the Gimenez "penalty" because there was contact and you cannot review (or take back) such plays. Can VAR be used in such a situation?

Apparently Liverpool are only the second club (after Ajax) to win Champions League away games at both Real and Atletico.

Every penalty can be reviewed. I'm assuming they mean that the ref shouldn't reverse it because there was contact, that it would have to be a 100% verified dive to overturn it. I don't know what the exact standard is, but I don't think that is the case.

Hang on, this was harsh for you? Unlucky sure but he's endangered an opponent with his boot 6 feet into Firmino's ear. He almost Vincent Van Gogh'd him.

The photo is brutal, for sure, but I saw that Griezmann was playing the ball and that Firminio put his head down to go for it. It was certainly a yellow, in the same way that Ibrahamovic's boot-to-the-head was yellow in his match against Porto.

The way I've always interpreted the rule is that if your foot is up above your waist, you're responsible for all the consequences of the result, regardless of intent. The rule is designed to prevent dangerous situations like that even if you're playing the ball.

How was Firmino’s head in any way down? If anything, he saw the contact coming and was trying to avoid it.

Atalanta two up and looking comfortable against Man Utd. Man Utd can't get much going in attack. Some of their best chances have fell to Fred. The Old Trafford faithful getting restless booing the players off. Rashford should have scored with the last kick of the half.

Ole is in bother now.

Red Bull Salzburg - Wolfsburg is starting out like it's going to be a good one. Adeyemi misses a sitter and Wolfsburg scores a few minutes later (Baku). This one might have some goals in it.

Plus, you've got Brooks and Aaronson.

Tell me about it. I had no idea the clocks changed on Sunday until I saw my sleep app tell me I'd had nine hours of sleep, but it was too early for that to be true. And then I realized.

Years ago, I worked with a guy who, despite the benefits of a very privileged upbringing, had some serious problems. He once was one hour late to an important meeting because of DST. My other favorite story about him, was when he was supposed to meet someone in Warsaw, Indiana, but he flew instead to Wausau, Wisconsin. Guy was something else.

Weah drew a penalty for Lille in their game against Sevilla (David converted it). Haven't seen it but it appears he got in the head by a stray arm.

1-1 at the half for United-Atalanta

Atalanta thoroughly outplayed United but it was a cheap goal where De Gea should have done better.

The equalizer coming from a delicious backheel from Bruno to Ronaldo.

I wonder in the scoring situations does everyone else seem to slow down for Ronaldo. He just seems to take exactly the right amount of time to place the ball into the right spot.

There is certainly a Brady-like quality in the sense that he's done every big thing a million times so he just has way more training than everybody else.

Maybe it’s because I didn’t watch a lot of Juve or Real, or maybe it’s because those teams are so much better than this United team, but I forgot how Ronaldo seems to will the ball into the net sometimes.

Pool-Atleti lineups:

Liverpool: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, van Dijk, Tsimikas, Henderson, Fabinho, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Salah, Jota, Mane.
Subs: Konate, Thiago, Firmino, Adrian, Minamino, Robertson, Origi, Phillips, Kelleher, Williams, Morton.

Atletico Madrid: Oblak, Gimenez, Felipe, Hermoso, Trippier, Koke, De Paul, Carrasco, Correa,Joao Felix, Suarez.
Subs: Lecomte, Renan Lodi, Herrera, Matheus Cunha, Vrsaljko, Serrano, Iturbe, Martin, Gonzalez.

Looks like rest for Robbo. Curious why Jones isn’t even on the bench - injured again?

It would be a boon for Liverpool to pick up 3 points and qualify through today. What I am really hoping to see is a clean sheet and defensive intensity plus strong possession with a lead. This squad is leaking way too many goals given their ambitions.

Edit: with the Porto-Milan draw, Pool just need a point tonight to go through. Three will secure top spot.

Joe Gomez misses out on the squad with a calf injury while Curtis Jones sustained an eye injury in training on Tuesday.

Very silly yellow from Tyler Adams that Di Maria tried very hard to jackass into a red.

Yellow for Marsch also, as well as a few PSG players. No chance this ends 11 vs. 11.
