It's pretty common knowledge at this point that Rambis is tight with the Buss family and Jeannie appears to be utterly clueless, so Rambis has been involved in the day-to-day operations of the franchise. LeBron of course, probably wields the most power in the organization outside of Buss herself.
are you kidding? Jeannie was the brains behind the Laker Girls... I saw it on Winning Time

Her and Linda Rambis got this.

Would love to be the server when Jeannie, Linda and Barbara Streisand go to lunch.

Microdiscectomy of L4. Without more information, I have no comment. But for everyone at home, listen to your physical therapist and try to avoid surgery.

The extent someone will go through to get out of playing basketball. Sheesh.
The entire Simmons saga has certainly been bizarre.

I don't have much to add aside from that fact that people do in fact get injections and even surgery for questionable reasons (workers comp etc) with minimal imaging findings and suspect complaints/exam findings. Almost any MRI of the lumbar spine with have "something" that can be surgically addressed if someone really wants to.

We'll never know whats going on with Simmons specifically, but to anyone thinking that having surgery means he has some real injury that prevented him from playing.... probably not that clear.

Didn’t he say just last week that he thought his back pain may be related to his mental issues? I could certainly see how stress and being in your own head all the time could lead to back pain..

It seemed like he was successfully treating the physical and mental symptoms with retail therapy, but I guess more aggressive measures were required.

To think all of this could have been avoided if he had just dunked a basketball when he was wide open.

Seriously. Back surgery should be anyone's last last last resort. Try everything else first

I'm no NBA schedule expert, but if he needs 3-4 months to recover, and it's May right now, and training camp is in September... then how will he be ready to return "well ahead of training camp"? Four months from now is September.

Pretty sure they were referring to the 2028 training camp.

Simmons: I had a microdiscoectomy
Marks: What? A microdiscectomy? How does that treat your mental issues?
Simmons: No, a microdiscoectomy.
Marks: OK, who the hell is your doctor, I need to speak to him.
Simmons: Dr. Nefario is a little hard of hearing. But I’ll be ready well before training camp.
Marks: How? We’re four months from camp and that’s the recovery time for microdiscectomy.
Simmons: I have video of my rehab workout.
Marks: ?

My first though also. Kudos for remembering. #allpicksmatter
After reading through that thread last night, I think it's going to be my 1st thought any time anyone mentions 2028 until like 2038.

ETV is a hell of a lot better then a shunt. But no one likes it when people are punching holes in your kids brain. I hope it goes well.

Seems a lot too early to say Morey has won anything. All he's technically acquired is 2 months of out of shape James Harden, & he had to also give up a key rotation guy & 2 1sts to get there.

Not news but if you are a long time NBA fan, today's Knuckleheads podcast with Jermaine O'Neal is a great listen. More importantly, if you aren't familiar with what JO is up to, you may be surprised, especially if your take on the Malace At The Palace was informed by pundits etc. That is covered tangentially but they discuss many other topics including going from high school to the pros, mental health and, of course lots of anecdotes about lots of players.

I’m in mourning for my Rockets, hopefully they trade the third pick to OKC for future picks. Because the top of this draft seriously sucks. I guess Sharpe has some upside, but I’m always suspicious of players that dominate low levels of competition athletically. But he does have more upside than most guys. This draft is so bad that Keegan Murray is legitimately a top five pick. (I do think he’s OK, he’s going to be nice NBA player. But that man has Safety Pick written all over him.)

This is all extremely pathetic, especially because the Embiid has never even made 1st team all-NBA, he's never been out of the second round of the playoffs, and no one outside of Philadelphia thinks he's the best player in the league. Really big "2014 AFC Finalist" banner energy here.

They made a statue for the Philly Special. They have a low bar in that city.
Is that really different than if the Red Sox celebrated 2004 with a statue? The play was a symbol of breaking one of the longest NFL droughts for a diehard fanbase--my family is from there, and it was a really, really big deal. That play was way more than a play.

That said, this Embiid thing is.....oof.

Honestly, it feels like the city is trying to encourage him to stay when he becomes a free agent.
It's a good thought, but I just checked his extension and he's signed through 2027 (at $49M/yr, kicking in in 2023-2024).

There's the fact it was an illegal formation and shoudn't have counted? Maybe they don't care, but it's worlds less legitimate than the 2004 Red Sox.

"Our noble heroes", "their craven villains"

"our glorious victory", "their illegitimate usurpation"

I mean, the idea of a statue is fine and Philly special was the iconic play there so I get it.

But the actual statue that they built….woof is that thing completely lame and terrible. Doug Pederson and Nick Foles staring at each other

There should never be a statue depicting a guy wearing a headset calling a play from the first half of a game. Their staring at each other is merely an aggravating factor.

Woj reporting that Connelly is leaving Denver for MN, as has been rumored over the last couple of weeks. Compensation includes an equity piece.

If I was a player in Denver I’d be worried about their commitment to winning long term when they lost both Ujiri and Connelly because they refused to pay them.

i think they lost another exec to the Bulls last year if I’m not mistaken. Big time brain drain there
