No, but Freeman has seemed set on LAD or ATL for a few days now. NY is at $236M and I think can go to 270 and could clear another 12-15 if they needed, so they have the room.
Why is that? Langeliers has only played 5 games in AAA. Murphy doesn't become arb eligible until 2023 and isn't a FA until 2026. They can easily stash Langeliers in AAA for a year. Austin Allen is the only other C they have on their 40 man. I don't know a ton about Langeliers but the Fangraphs profile says great defensively, lots of power but contact issues.
Yeah, an equivalent deal from the Yankees would have been something like Oswald Peraza, Luis Medina, Randy Vazquez, and Oswaldo Cabrera. That's one of the bigger prospect packages to go out for a single player in recent vintage. Quantity and premium upside. I'm just surprised the Braves would prefer to do this, and give up so much potential cost controlled talent, for the right to pay three years of Olson's arb rather than pay Freeman.

Definitely a gamble for them, but the pre-2021 version of Suarez was a really good hitter. Even in a down 2020, he was “basically Kyle Seager.” Last year he was real bad, but I wonder if the struggles might have had something to do with the Reds asking him to play shortstop?
I am surprised the Sox haven’t been linked to Bryant; he seems a perfect fit. Wasn’t the initial reason that his return to SF seemed to be a forgone conclusion?
I'll bet he's asking for 5+ years; very good but not elite hitter on the wrong side of 30 who is in the lower half of the defensive spectrum and below average there, I would let someone else commit to that.
That’s true, it probably is all about the years. I suspect the reported interest in a guy like Soler was thinking he could be had on a 2 year deal (which now seems unlikely). I’m guessing the Sox will ultimately get a bat but it might be a while to see who will settle for a short term deal.
I prefer to go by what they have accomplished. Until proven otherwise the Giants are a 107 win team.
