And the reason they failed to score was that the man on third, Soler, went home on contact to a sharp grounder to first. The 1B tagged the bag and threw home. Soler out at the plate. A Soxian DP.

Steam is offering a free weekend of Super Mega Baseball 3 this weekend, through to the end of Sunday, so I downloaded it this afternoon and was playing it a bit before the Braves game started. I had played SMB and SMB2 a long time ago, and in my first game I was struggling to remember how to move baserunners around the diamond, and I was running into all sorts of stupid outs before I figured out what I was doing.

Watching Soler try to score there made me think I was still playing SMB3 instead of watching a real game.

It was probably a contact play called by Snitker. Burnes rarely walks people and he walked both to get on base. The next two up are Albies and Riley. It was Albies who hi the ball to 1B. IMO, with those guys up,, especially with Riley, you don't run a contact play. The odds of Riley hitting one to the OF are pretty high. And it totally changes the pitching strategy with Riley up and men on first and third and one out from how they pitch him with a man on second with two outs.

Swinging strike four; catchers need to do a better job of framing pitches.

In what world was the pitch before the swinging strike four not a called strike three, the entire ball was in the strike zone.

Brewers have had their chances ... tying run to the plate in both the 7th and 8th

The cradle of the game.
Noticed that 150 patch on the Braves' unis and went right on down the rabbit hole...

• It's been 150 years since the Braves franchise began play in Boston as the Red Stockings in the old National Association (1871), 5 years before the National League was founded.
• They lay claim to the title of oldest continually operating professional franchise in North American sports.
• The Cubs' franchise also traces it roots back to 1871, as the Chicago White Stockings, but because they did not play in 1872 and 1873, they did not continually operate.
• What prevented the Cubs from playing in 1872 and 1873? The Great Chicago Fire that burned October 8-10, 1871... EXACTLY 150 yeas ago. Crazy.
• Patch includes a small "B" and "M" to signify the other 2 cities the franchise resided in. Cool, but a little weird considering they are playing the Brewers.

That is all.

Interesting, I saw it and thought it might have something to do with MLB, but then every team would wear it (this was pre-coffee this morning.) A few things. I thought the Cincinnati Red Legs are the "oldest" professional baseball team. Also, why in the hell are the Braves not wearing an Aaron patch? Did they pout after losing the All-Star game?

I believe on the back of their cap is a small 44, along with another number. Struck me as quite underwhelming, considering Aaron’s stature in the game.

Someone remind me how much the Brewers are paying for their defensive replacement and pinch runner outfielder?
