If they can keep that crowd off the green, I’ll be stunned.

Edit: They did!

That’s an incredible achievement. Kiawah is not a course you would expect a 50 year old to out-play the field.

I love the ocean course. I can’t wait to go back.

Rahm finished hours ago and was there at the green ... that tells you something

Phil’s brother was Rahm’s coach at Arizona State. I think may have served as a manager too for some time period Close connection between Rahm and the Mickelson’s.

Crowd control on the final hole was unacceptable in my opinion. I mean, I get it, in-the-moment elation and enthusiasm. But there was at least one shot of a fan grabbing at Phil. There is no way any player should be engulfed by fans, which was the case here. That is inviting disaster.

So much respect from so many of the guys who finished in the last couple of hours waiting there to congratulate Phil

Rahm, Streelman, Fowler, Oosthuizen all waiting for Phil. That was cool. Now he’s got 5 More chances to win the US Open.

I love Phil being surrounded by hundreds of fans and hugging everyone after the round.

And then they do the interview distanced. It is a little odd.

He just said he can't tell us how he feels

First question: "Tell us how this feels"

Look - I'm sorry I brought up that issue, and I wouldn't bring it up again if I had a do-over. (Which is why I left this thread for most of the day; I didn't want to take anything away from everyone's enjoyment.) But the answer to your question has always been "nothing".
Sorry, man. I had a few drinks this afternoon after a stressful weekend, and was just having a little fun. I don't really have a problem with people speculating about such things. It's the nature of the world, at this point. All good on my end.

Awesome career high note for Phil, who drew the unenviable card of having his career run alongside Tiger’s. Phil probably has 10+ majors if not.

Thanks - no worries here either. And again, I was always rooting for Phil, and I'm delighted he brought it home.

(It was funny listening to the NLU podcast after Round 3 - one of the guys had placed a bet on Phil to finish in the Top 40 in the tournament preview pod and was laughed out of the room, but despite how bad that take proved to be, last night they were talking about how it wasn't at all out of the realm of possibility that he could shoot in the 80s on Sunday and still might not finish in the Top 40! I was worried for him today, especially after the first hole, but he played remarkably un-Phil-like golf all week, his short game excellence notwithstanding.)

Yeah, we've all seen Phil implode many times over the years. He's a wild card out there. I wasn't sure he was going to win until his approach landed on the green at 18. Such is the life of a gambler.

Tiger is 100% winning another one now after this. Even if it takes a prosthetic.
With all of the ridiculous amount of young talent in professional golf, if you had told me at the start of 2019 that we’d have another Tiger and Phil major in 2 years I’d have laughed in your face. It’s truly remarkable.

By the way, my only real regret is that this Phil performance happened at Kiawah this month instead of at Torrey Pines next month. Can you imagine this week's scenes at a US Open, with Phil finally banishing all of his demons and completing his career Grand Slam? THAT would be off the charts.
Especially since Torrey Pines is basically Phil's home course, since he grew up in San Diego.

My head is still spinning...
  • Wait...Phil went to the claw grip out of the blue on the 71st green? What the hell?
  • Does this greatly increase the likelihood of the (heavily-backed-by-Phil) Premier/Super Golf League coming into existence?
  • I generally like and root for Louis Oosthuizen, but that double-drop he took on Saturday was so scummy, there's no way karma could allow him to win yesterday. (Especially given how Phil had very nobly not given himself the benefit of any doubt off of that same tee.)
  • I'm 47 years old - this has to be the last major won by someone older than me at the time he wins it, right? (Or is Phil himself going to win another one of these?)
  • Even in victory, did the PGA at Bethpage ruin Brooks Koepka's ability to close on Sunday in majors?
  • Did Phil really show as little emotion after winning the tournament as I think he did? (Is he a golfing psychopath, like the NLU guys keep saying he is?)
  • Is Phil going to make the Ryder Cup team, and would that be a good thing for Team USA's chances?
