Vote.

And yes, I slid 2 Sox onto the ballot. Sue me.

Close call between Wander and Randy. They should be 1-2. Technically last year doesn’t count, so I went with Wander on the basis of a higher ceiling, more of a breakout type of year, even if he was only up for half a season. If you bend the rules a little and think about last post-season, though, you could easily make an argument for Randy.

An impressive group that makes me even more jealous of the Rays — I would have added Shane McClanahan’s name to this group. Ugh.

Wander Franco is the real deal and I fear is going to terrorize the Red Sox for a long time, but only played 70 games in the Show and has a slightly lower OPS+ than Arozarena. Luis Garcia is a find for the Astros. And Adolis Garcia was a fun story and a good young player, but his 101 OPS+ and bad 2nd half I think sparkly loudly.

But I give this award to Arozarena. 4.2 bWAR thanks to a 20/20, 131 OPS+ season at the dish and superb defense, plus 141 games played.

If the Rays could cool it with outstanding all around cost controlled players, that would be great.

Wander will win it. I homer voted for Whitlock. Garcia will get picked apart for his poor second half and low OBP, but what should be mentioned is that he is an excellent defensive outfielder, which will go under the radar.

Down to Franco and Arozarena for me. Went with Franco as he accumulated nearly as much WAR (4.2 vs 3.5 on B-Ref) in about half as many games. Plus he did it with a positive dWAR suggesting he contributed on both sides of the ball.

I have no problem with giving it to Franco, who looks like one of the next superstars in MLB, but I do think for an award like this I lean toward the one who played the entire year in the Majors.

Also just pointing out that it’s wild that Arozarena might win AL Rookie of the Year while being the 4th most exciting Rookie ON HIS OWN TEAM (Franco, McLanahan, Baz)

I disagree with the full year thing since it's entirely out of the player's control. Players are generally only eligible for the award once. They shouldn't be penalized or overlooked for their only shot at it because their team delayed their arrival for whatever reason. Best rookie is best rookie whether he plays 70 games or 160.

Yeah I knew this would be the counter argument, and given the infuriating service time manipulation in MLB it does feel like punishing players for something entirely out of their control. Still, Arozarena did play a full season, which is impressive, and it’s not his fault that the Rays were manipulating Franco.

Hard to balance. Both are deserving.

Given Wander's production since his call-up, if he played as many games as Arozarena, he'd have blown him out of the water and this wouldn't be a question. Arozarena benefits from the Rays manipulating Franco's clock (though I'm not sure that was exactly what they were doing).

It’s crazy that Arozerena is eligible for the ROY in that it feels like he’s been around for years. Although I guess the last two years have only felt like ten

I voted Wander. The on-base streak is historic. Choosing anyone else would look dumb in later years (which many ROTY awards do actually.)

Not that I'd vote for him, but Alek Manoah had a better season than several of those on the ballot.

He did. I overlooked him. But since we're only voting for 1 on here, not top 5 or something, I don't think it really changes much. I could have narrowed down each list to like 3 or 4.
