things seem to be going swimmingly at the Texas Compound.

There is a growing sense from people in and around the Texans’ organization that Deshaun Watson has played his last snap for the team. It’s early in the off-season, there’s a lot of time left, but Watson’s feelings cannot and should not be underestimated.

One league source connected to the Texans' HC situation said Saturday: "It's gone from the least desirable head coaching job (opening) to the most undesirable head coaching job in the NFL. That's a fact. That's how that job is now looked at by everybody."

I’ve asked around a lot with folks very attached to the @HoustonTexans situation It’s worse than we even think it is on the outside. And that says a lot

“It's gone from the least desirable head coaching job (opening) to the most undesirable head coaching job”

Is that a typo, or has someone just forgotten what words mean?
I THINK he is trying to say that it was seen as the worst opening before this, now it is seen as the worst job, period, filled or unfilled. Who knows if that’s really the prevailing sentiment, though, or merely what one guy told Schefter.

Yeah I took it as....it was thought better to be a HC in Houston than not be a HC at all...but now...the situation is so toxic it's better to just say no thanks and avoid it altogether than be part of that nonsense, even if it may be your only HC opportunity.

Easterby on pace for one of the fastest rises and falls in league history. Classic huckster.

If they trade him you have to think it's to either the Jets or the Dolphins, easily the two teams with the most of offer.

And the fact he isn't fired yet when that is the FIRST step the Texans need to make to bring Watson back into the fold? Unreal that McNair isn't going to Watson with hat and hand and Easterby's head on a stick, when Watson is basically Mahomes without the hardware (because of how shitty the rest of the organization has worked the past how many years).

Just to throw another team out there, I've heard some insider types suggest 49ers

Not that Watson wouldn't take anything but Houston but doesn't his NTC play more into this than we are discussing?
Probably not?
I mean, sure he might use it, but if he really wants out, and it sounds like he does, he's probably going to go wherever. I can't imagine he'd turn down any of the teams that can afford him

Maybe we have to root for Watson goes to the 49ers for a bundle of picks (from SF and New England), JimmyG goes to the Pats, and Nick "6-years" Caserio signs Brisette as a FA and then drafts a QB.

Wonder if hiring Bienemy is enough to keep Watson on the team for next season.

Nine months removed from a close playoff loss to the eventual Super Bowl champion Chiefs, as the Texans worked their way to an 0–4 start

In what world is a 51-31 game considered a "close playoff loss"?

Well, Houston was up 21-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Then KC outscored them 28-3 (ahem) in the second quarter, so the halftime score 28-24 was close.

It was 10 points going into the 4th. It was a fairly close game, even if it was mostly just HOU jumping out to a big lead then losing it. Though also, it looked worse because HOU went for it on 4th down 3 times in a row in KC territory and missed all 3. If they'd kicked FGs it would look more like a close game even if it wasn't winnable that way.

Uncle Josh could probably be a decent coach. Wonder how many have turned Texans down.

Allegedly the Texans are down to:

Jim Caldwell- A good NFL coach, who went to the Superbowl with Indy, took DET to the playoffs twice and got foolishly fired for going 9-7 (bringing his time in Detroit to 36-28), DET then went 14-33-1 over the next 3 years, the best being 6-10 with Caldwell's core.

Josh McNown- No coaching experience, but he's white and buddies with Jack Easterby

Definitely similarly qualified.

I dont know when the Texans dump him, but this is Easterby's last NFL job. And then he'll say he was blacklisted for religious reasons.

My #1 takeaway from the Texans situation is that the League 100% has to add a buy-back to the franchise agreements.
Failsons are terrible for a business where you can't afford to just let them fail horribly.

I remember when the NBA stepped in to block Ted Stepien from trading away draft picks.

What an absolute nut punch for Houston. You find an elite QB at #12 and he requests a trade after 4 seasons. And this is all basically Bill O'Brien's fault for completing mangling that roster over the past several years. Sounds like we'll soon have a pretty good sense of where he may be headed.
It's far more Cal McNair's fault honestly. And Easterby.

Fair. I mean, it was pretty much a perfect storm of managerial and organizational incompetence. They all played a huge role. Who knows what happens if the Texans don't choke that divisional game to KC.

I’ve been trying not to say anything because I don’t want to get my hopes up nor do I want to jinx it; but I have to say this joke; it’s not even a great joke but I’m compelled by an urge to say it. This is my weakest personality trait. Ok, here we go, it’s not great:

If DeShaun Watson gets traded to the Jets I will join Jack Easterby’s church

Are there any historical comps to this? The guy is a 25-year old, elite-level QB under contract for five more years. Has anyone like that ever been traded before?

And what happens if they just don't trade him? He can request a trade but Houston can say, uh, no Mr. Watson, we are not trading you. You are our QB.

Denver trading Cutler at that time was close to this.
